Pym is one of *three* Ant-Men.
And he hasn't been "Ant-Man" for *nearly* as long as Scott Lang. Hank Pym is primarily known as Giant-Man first and foremost, Yellowjacket second, Goliath third, and Ant-Man fourth. (Hint: that's what those little masks dancing around Pym in my avatar are for.)

And no, Pym has never been portrayed as "young" in the comics. Late 30s, typically.

But in any event, there is nothing in his powerset that requires him to be young or even athletic. He uses subatomic particles to grow or shrink to superhuman sizes, and communicates with insects. None of that requires him to be in great shape.

Lord. Sam, I thought you agreed to ignore me when last we tangled in the IM3 boards??!

Ok.

I'll bite.

1. I know about all the "Ant-mans" which is why I purposefully disregarded the newer two since they are worthless. On the matter of the identities, it doesn't matter who wore what title longer. Whoever wore it first is the real one. (not to mention that Lang did nothing to add to the Legacy of the character since he's an idiot) End of story.

2. 30's IS young. That's what I meant. Not some child. Jeez. Common sense. Especially when compared to a fragile 70 yr old.

3. Oh yeah. I'm jittering with excitement to see an old man in action. Sorry. All this PC-ness is ridiculous. An old man is old and won't be of ANY use in a PHYSICAL altercation against younger foes. That's why there are no athletes in professional sports in that age range.

4. And what Pym are we discussing here? The one I'm talking about did some real physical things like run, punch, and lift things with his full sized strength in his ant-sized body. I expect nothing less from he who would play him. :o

I guess Marvel will have to back track their dumb decisions yet again and fix this in a short movie like they are trying to do with their Mandarin debacle in "All Hail The King". Now the 10 rings are canon in the MCU again.....I thought Killian made them up because he was "The Mandarin! From the beginning. Its always been me!".....go figure......

You whining like a 5 year old amuses me, please continue. It's hilarious.

Where was this three months ago? Did you get married or something?

Eh, let 'em flip out and throw their tantrums. Controversy generates more buzz for a movie than gladhanding. Their nerdrage only makes the movies attract bigger audiences.

I guess so, it's fine for people to not like something or whatever. But some just troll with their responses and tantrums like little kids. It's annoying but funny at the same time haha.

So, if I wear a suit for one day, and never wear it again, and give it to my friend, who wears it for the rest of his life, it's still *my* suit and not his....?

By your reasoning, Christopher Pike is the only Captain the USS Enterprise ever had.

2. 30's IS young. That's what I meant. Not some child. Jeez. Common sense. Especially when compared to a fragile 70 yr old.

I'm flattered you feel that way. Most of you young whippersnappers consider 30 to be old.

Hank Pym has normal human strength. On the low end of the scale, actually. He's a scientist, not a fighter. His "super" strength comes from the size differential when he's tiny or giant, but it's still entirely relative to his actual height and weight.

Also: I suggest looking up the term "stunt man" whenever you have free time. Here's a hint: that wasn't Paul Rudd *or* Michael Douglas in that Ant-Man suit we saw in the SDCC test footage.

No. Divorced. :ikyn

But don't you understand how profoundly this news affects me on a deep spiritual level??? I'm even using multiple smilies to emphasize my pain!!! :cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad::cmad:

It depends on how many times you scratched your gonads whilst wearing it that day. If you went to the well too many times then the suit is yours.

or if you pooped in it.

I wonder if the actor who they get to play young Pym will reprise his role in the Agent Carter show?

Wait just thought better of it. He'd probably be born in the 40s if he's 70 in the movie.

Yea, that was my first thought, but it's just off by about 15-20 years. Then again, if the Agent Carter show were conceptualized as a decade spanning show, exploring SHIELD's origins by covering multiple years per season, it would work really really well. However, something like that might be a little too ambitious for a (more or less) play-it-safe network like ABC.

In fact, my 3 biggest questions upon hearing the Michael Douglas casting were:
1. Who'll play 60's-Pym?
2. How will they now handle Jan?
3. How can they explore more of Pym's adventures, post-Ant-Man?

Michael Douglas is the eldest of 4 brothers. I don't know if his other siblings are into acting (well the youngest is dead), but they are into movie making. If they look enough like him then they could get one of them to stand in for a younger Pym. But that probably won't work anyway, since the youngest surviving sibling (Peter Douglas) is 58.

But wait! Michael Douglas has a son named Cameron! He's an actor and is 35!

I suppose there is enough of a resemblance to the young Michael Douglas, but he needs to slim down a little bit in his face.

And filming will start in 2018, when Cameron gets out of prison? :)

Apparently Michael Douglas has signed a multi-picture deal.

Is he in prison? I didn't know that. What for? I've never heard of him until I just looked up the Douglas family tree. I thought Dylan would be a little too young.

But even if filming starts in 2018, what's another delay to Edgar Wright? :D

Just going off of the Wikipedia page, but drug dealing, apparently.

I can't wait for Marvel to announce that Paul Rudd is actually playing Eric O'Grady... that would keep things interesting til next year. :cwink::cwink::cwink:
