I'm down for this. The rumor is

Michael Douglas is really the villain so maybe Hank Pym starts out a good guy and gets corrupted? We haven't heard rumours about who the villain is yet after all.

I can foresee it being quite similar to the first Mission Impossible film where the hero of the TV series (Jim Phelps) became the villain of the film. He was a man of integrity and a staunch hero, but somehow in the film he got tired of doing good. I can also see that Pym's much younger wife, Jan, will probably want to be rescued from her dreary life and abusive marriage, and Lang will provide that escape. In the end all that was Pym's will be Lang's.

Pym's only contribution to the MCU will be that he'll have invented a cure for throat cancer, which he will have no doubt tested on his wife.

Can't have that. Michael might break his hip.
He might fall, and wont be able to get up.

Dude we get it you hate everything about the casting and the movie now and it's doomed. You don't need to post 4 times every thread related to Antman saying that.

I'm having fun with it. It's my way of dealing with the sad news.
What's your problem?
Oh, and I didn't say the movie is doomed. I just don't like what it means for Pym's role in the future of the MCU.

Yes, I was going to mention First Class too. They took an unlikely approach to casting, and it really paid off.

The Sinister Six too, I mean, I have praised that in the Spidey's boards, but in here I was basically talking about casting. Marvel -under Feige- made some very interesting choices even from the very start of the MCU. I've been pleaseantly surprised so far.

I agree. I'm not a big stickler for accuracy, i want entertaining and quality movies much more.

And Marvels castings have been excellent. Not always accurate but excellent actors who frankly none of us thought would be in a superhero movie.

Man people over at CBM are losing it.:lmao: I have no idea why, Pym will be Ant-Man and so will Scott. What is the problem?

Isn't Pym a villian? That plus the age difference from the comic. It's the same problem with Electro being blue without a starfish mask, Fantastic Four being younger, Wonder Woman being too skinny, MJ not being hot enough and so on.

In-accuracy cannot be tolerated :wow:

Now just thinking about Rudd/RDJ/Ruffalo/DOUGLAS riffing off each other and going completely freakballs over it!

Douglas is a real powerhouse. i'm not saying that i'm precognitive but, by pure coincidence, i rented 'Falling Down' (and Dinner for Schmucks) this past Saturday. i was sick and just wanted something fun from the 90s, to watch.

This is pretty good casting. At this point, I'm glad we're getting an older Hank Pym. A young Hank would've been pointless AFTER Ultron, even if he did create Ultron; if Hank's not there to face his "son", then there's no point.

But an older Hank Pym could make for an interesting story, this will be the first legacy hero we've seen in a movie I think.

Disappointed that we won't get a modern day adventuring Pym and the focus is apparently on Lang after all.

On the other hand, it's Michael ****ing Douglas.

I really hope this villain rumor turns out to be nonsense. That's my biggest concern (along with Douglas' health. I was under the impression he wasn't doing so well)

When does this start filming?

All they said it was soon, in Georgia. No exact date.

I hear you. Wow.

Wasp is gonna be the girlfriend of Scott Lang.

i seriously doubt it. he didn't have a girlfriend in any of those stories (not until the late 90s/jessica jones); referenced. he's currently dating Darla Deering; Johnny Storm's ex. i'm not even sure how a girlfriend would play into this story. it's a heist.

You doubted that Rudd was playing Lang too, though. :sus

Yeah cuz they're clearly sticking with comic canon in this movie :funny:

Thor has Odin's legacy. :o

(jk, I know what you mean)

And Pym wasn't an old man in any of those stories, and possibly a villain. They can obviously change things.

I don't think Pym is a villain especially if they're adapting 'To Steal an Ant-Man'. Some people are just over-reacting, I doubt that some of them are even fans of the character.:whatever:

There was an old Tales to Astonish story where Pym became extremely aged and elderly. I don't remember the exact details, but possibly someone used some aging ray on him. He was eventually de-aged to his normal age.

I'm guessing though that Pym won't get de-aged in that manner, as he's probably not elderly from an aging ray, but simply because time is not on his side.

maybe janet is dead or lost in the microverse in this movie.. that's what causes Pym to retire...
do people age in the microverse?

Whoa! I come from an extra-long, 12+ hour day at work to this awesome and unexpected news. As usual with Marvel, it's totally out of left field, but A+ casting.

I'll have to go back and read all the reactions here, but it's obvious that they did in fact go with the "Pym is an older mentor-type character" pitch that Wright has been saying all along. I'm sure some people are bummed that Pym won't be a contemporary with the other Avengers, and I get that, but just the same I'm interested to see how this plays out.

he was, canonically, 20 years older than Jan. they can obviously change things. but why? we knew about the Pym-from-a-different-era angle a long time ago. do you remember them ever talking about Janet and Scott being an item?

Your job just called, they need you back pronto. I tried to cover for you but they weren't buying it.
