What if they just use CG to make young Michael Douglas?

They probably will because we're gonna be seeing him in the 60's as Ant-man. I just can't wait for the Ant-Man vs Ant-Man fight. That is going to be awesome. Does anyone else think that this is Scoot Lang's Ant-Man?

^^That looks awesome guys, seriously. We're in for a treat. I believe in Edgar Wright.

Or the movie could be about both of them and could just slightly lean towards Rudd....? A shocking concept I know.

And this is based on what. Paul Rudd was announced as the star and Ant-Man. Michael Douglas is not the lead. It's Paul Rudd. You really think this is about both guys equally. You really think Michael Douglas will take over the mantle of Ant-Man. He will even become Giant Man or Goliath and he will be in the thick of it with The Avengers? He will be fighting alongside them against Thanos and other threats?

It's not so much shocking as it is outright false. That's clearly not what they are doing or what is going on here. They didn't cast Douglas to take over the role of being old man Ant-Man from Paul Rudd.

Sorry, I didn't know you were Kevin Feige/Joss Whedon/whoever is doing the next Avenger movies. :funny:

Knock this crap off. We already know Ant-Man isn't in Avengers 2. We already know he is not involved in Ultron's creation.

So now you think Michael Douglas is going to be the guy to carry the mantle of Ant-Man going forth after this movie? Tell me you really believe that.

Douglas is going to be one and done imo. He'll either die helping Scott or turn out to be the main villain.

I think it would be somewhat similar to the Mask of Zorro in terms of plot. Pym will eventually become Lang's mentor.

The fact Wright has said the movie is about both of them?? :funny:

I didn't know you had to be the lead actor to have an integral part in a movie. :o

They announced Michael Douglas as the second casting in this movie and Wright has already said that a big part of the movie will be showing flashbacks of Hank Pym in action back in the 60's. This should tell you that Hank Pym has a pretty big role in the movie.

Calm down bruh :funny::funny:

You're completely caught up in your own thought process. I never said Douglas would be THE Ant-Man going forward...which doesn't mean anything for Hank Pym's character anyway because he hasn't been Ant-Man regularly since the early 60's. What I said is that him being older in the MCU does not disclude him from being a part of future movies...and the fact they hired as big a name as Michael Douglas for him would actually point to Marvel wanting to use him going forward. Selvig being old did not stop him from being in Avengers. There's no reason not to believe the same for Pym.

Yeah, that is what I meant by "help". He'll like Scott and what he shows by stealing the suit. Take him under his wing a bit, and then bite the dust. Obi-Wan without the Force-ghost.

I'm not really an Ant-Man fan and don't know if i'll see this but Wright has done really good action in his movies, that i suspect will be good in this.

I think Douglas is a rather brilliant casting by Marvel Studios.

Just imagine this scenario...

"Hey, you fancy going to see Ant-Man"

"What the F is Ant-Man?"

"It's a new superhero movie"

"What's his power being stepped on?"

"He changes size yeah, could be useful i guess, Michael Douglas is in it"

"Be serious, Michael Douglas?"

"Yeah"

"Is he Ant-Man?"

"I think so"

"Michael Douglas as a Superhero. alright we'll check it out"

A superhero that realisticly no one knows or cares about seeing a movie of but has Michael Douglas, Paul Rudd and is from the director of "Shaun of The Dead" will bring in people who are fans of some of those people.

The casting of a legendary actor will bring in some. Marvel knows he's not accurate or any of that stuff but he'll bring in money.

It's clear they will have a mutually beneficial relationship that will probably eventually develop into a mentor-student relationship that they both probably learn things from each other in...or a bromance in other words. That doesn't mean Douglas is one and done. I think you guys are just overreacting. Some of us have seen this coming for years and we didn't jump to Pym being a one and done character, or at least I didn't. I see how this works and why they're doing it in the first place.

 That sounds about right. I still think we'll see a fight scene between Pym and Lang in the suits before Pym becomes his mentor. I can't wait though.

Watch the Cornrtto trilogy and Scott Pligrim vs the World. He can direct action sequences. The fight scenes will be great, that's guaranteed.:woot:

Regardless of the future of Pym's character, casting such an actor in the part this long before shooting and only second to the lead definitely tells us that he'll be playing a huge role in at least this movie.

I haven't seen the workds end, but love Shaun and Hot Fuzz, he does do great action.

Your job just called, they need you back pronto. I tried to cover for you but they weren't buying it.

Thanks for trying to cover for me! :awesome:

Just read many pages of people's comments and reactions. I get why long time fans of Pym are upset (I'd be upset if there were a serious fundamental change to Thor, my favorite character), but with all but a few exceptions people are handling this pretty well. Even people who don't like it. Kudos, SHH.

Of course, I'm still reading, so maybe I'm wrong...

EDIT: oh and come to think of it, there were significant changes to Thor's character, like no Donald Blake... and I loved both Thor movies so far, despite what I consider to be a huge change from his origins and decades of stories.

Exactly.

I would prefer Pym be a member of The Avengers with Wasp, but with such an amazing actor playing the role I wait in extreme anticipation of the awesomesauce Wright is going to pour all over my brain. Plus, I have a sliver of hope that in the future MCU, they'll introduce Kang, or bring back Ultron and abduct past Pym and bring him to the present.

Wonder if Wright will reunite again with Bill Pope as DP for this; they're a good match so I'd be stoked for that.

Good god, why the hell would Marvel Studios waste that level of talent?

Douglas will get the multi-pic deal, same as everyone else. Pym's still got lots of mileage as an old-man superhero/mentor, for not only Lang but the Avengers later on. Lang as Ant-Man, Pym as a wise old veteran superhero Giant-Man, Janet as Pym's May-December assistant/love interest, Wasp. What's so hard to grasp about that?

^This.
Watch Mark of Zorro, people. Then watch Clint Eastwood in a 70s film called "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot." It's classic mentor-student, jedi master-padawan stuff.

Wow, pretty big day for Marvel. First Bill Paxton getting a multi-episode arc on AoS and now Michael Douglas as Pym. I was a little disappointed at first but I'll take great actors in these roles whenever I can get them.

I wonder if we just get hints at Giant-Man but Douglas is brought back for Avengers 3 and that is when Pym reveals this rarely used power.

Pym might have a lot of mileage but Douglas might not. He's not in the best of health and already looks older than 70.

Ben Kingsley (2+ Marvel movies) 70
Anthony Hopkins (2+ Marvel movies) 76
Samuel L Jackson (EVERY Marvel project, practically) 65
Stellan Skarsgard (3+ Marvel movies) 62
Michael Douglas, 69 (___ ??? Marvel movies)

I've got no qualms whatsoever about Michael Douglas' mileage left in Hollywood.

Two words: Hugo, Weaving

You can't make any assumptions. He might sign a multi picture deal, he might not.

I'm going to try and accept this is the one and only time we'll see Pym on the silver screen. I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment again.

i thought weaving signed a multi-pic deal, but after his comments, marvel most likely wont be exercising the option to use him again
