Thor:TDW had problems outside of studio input. Besides, Marvel let Black and, apparently, Gunn have free reign making their movies for the studio. Whedon didn't seem to have any problems.

But yeah, there is something strange about this one.

Hopefully this isn't another TDW-type situation. Marvel micromanaging to the point where they drive off several directors, and the micro-manage the actual director to the point that he was unable to make the best film that he could have otherwise.

They must of had some huge differences of opinion on the vision for the film for Edgar to walk. Edgar co-wrote the script and all the crew hired so far are Edgar's people.

Edgar wrote Ant-Man before the MCU as a standalone movie so perhaps he couldn't reconcile his vision for the movie with one Feige wanted in the MCU.
