The Amazing Spider-Man The Official ASM THEATRICAL TRAILER Thread! - Part 1

I don't hate S-M3. I just find it to be horribly disappointing. My expectations were so high. So even though the movie isn't that bad I find it hard to appreciate the good things about it.

For me Spiderman 3 was still a huge disappointment.
I got so hyped up after watching Spiderman 2 in the theater but when I heard that Topher Grace was to portray Eddie Brock, I began to lose interest ever since then. (Also after seeing the awful New Goblin pic)
Another reason is because I liked first two movies too much. In fact, Spiderman 1 and 2 are two of my favorite movies of last decade, along with Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum.
But still, I somewhat enjoyed the movie and people calling it worst superhero movie ever is just ridiculous. (Or they clearly haven't seen movies like Batman and Robin)

How I feel completely!

I never even noticed how bad SM3 was the first time I saw it, probably because then I didn't care if it was good or bad, just the fact that I was watching a new Spider-Man movie made me enjoy it much more.

Of course I definitely see now how bad it actually is, still I like the movie enough to watch it again =p

The ironic thing is SM3 is probably the Spidey movie I've watched the most out of the trilogy

This, lol.

Hopefully Webb won't keep taking Spidey's mask off during major fights like in the previous movies. That really irritated me.

the impact of peter's pain as he is holding back the train would have been totally lost if he were wearing a mask. you know it's true.

^Agreed, but that wasn't his point. It was how frequently his mask was taken off/ripped off that was a little annoying.

I pretty sad that JJ isn't in the movie. Anyone else a bit disapointed by that?

A little. We know that the Daily Bugle's in this, so there's no doubt he'll be showing his face at some point.

I saw some set pictures with the Daily Bugle logo on some stuff but it has been stated that Peter doesn't work for the Daily Bugle (yet) in this movie. So we probably wouldn't see JJ until the sequel. Or he may have a quick cameo in this one not sure. It will be hard to recast JJ anyway, since J.K Simmons NAILED the character in Sam Rami's movies.

SM1:
takes his mask off when he swings into his apartment (drop of blood moment) - fair enough

doesn't have time to put on mask during fight to stop mj being raped - fair enough

has mask blown clean off his face in cemetary fight - fair enough

SM2:
takes off mask during train fight - need to see emotion so it's fair enough

takes of mask to make a connection with doc ock (when ock kills himself) this is fair enough

SM3:
takes off makes after fighting sandman for the first time - rubbish
takes off before swinging into the parade - rubbish

those are the only two instances that annoyed the heck out of me

Sorry, what I meant was we'll be saying his face in this franchise at some point.

I completely agree. It was absoloutely necessary, IMO.

I disagree. I don't think it was absolutely necessary, tbh.

They could have easily had him... y'know, not remove his mask. Maybe have had his lenses cracked so we could see his eyes. A lot of emotion can be portrayed solely through the eyes.

Spidey's on the front of the train (his mask is ON), he's screaming as he's trying to make the train slow down and stop. We see his suit rip at the seams, we get a close-up of his eyes and we see his face twist from the pain.

After he's stopped the train, he collapses, is carried in, somebody removes his mask to make sure he's not dead. They're all mortified at the fact that Spider-Man... is "just a kid".

It's the same, but it's not, if you get me. It also would have been a great way to reduce the "It's a-me, Peter Parker!" moments the trilogy had.

But I'm really happy with how the scene went.

they maybe should have have ock partially rip the mask so you see the eyes and mouth (like the end of SM1) but you DID need to see the eyes and the mouth because pete is screaming at the end and that would have been lame had his mouth been covered. LAME.

Why and how is it "LAME"? Based on what you're saying, he should also have his mask almost completely torn in all the scene's where he's talking. Because speaking and screaming with a full mask is lame.

remember the scene where spidey is having a conversation with gobin on the roof top. you had spidey with his face completely covered and goblin with full mask as well (but you could see the eyes and mouth, kinda). the scene fullfils it's purpose of getting information across (join me becaue the city will turn on you) but the scene would have carried more power if you could see emotion.

Urm... the Green Goblin is supposed to be this soulless madman, I don't really need to see his emotions. It's why the stiff mask (but visible mouth) bugged me.

And Spidey? Hmm, I guess, I was still fine with it, tbh. But that's why they created the faceshell with a fake jaw. To allow more movement and not make it look like they're just shaking their heads to audio that's been added in later.

They've been able to deliver pretty dramatic performances in the comics with Spidey's mask on so I don't see why they can't in the new franchise.

I agree and that's something I was thinking about..why does it work so well in the comic but could have the potential to not work in a movie and I think the difference is, in the comic, we have the luxury of seeing Peter's thoughts, so we know how he is really feeling. But on the flip side, there has been a lot of great writing and great artists to dictate things that maybe Tobey or any actor couldn't quite pull off through their body language. I don't have the answer but I do think that there would've been a less "revealing" way to show his emotion in that train scene without him taking the mask off, either way, great scene.

Him taking his mask off after fighting sandman though?? that was mad careless lol..he would never ever ever do that unless he was absolutely sure no one was around and even then, you would think with Harry knowing his identity, a freaking spider-man parade going on blocks from where he was, he would have the good sense to keep that thing on while taking off his boots, but thats a moot point now.

that's a comic, you don't have to see emotion you can read it.

for me the deepest heartfelt moment of the whole trilogy is when peter is in his room and he says 'can't I have what I want? what 'I' need?'

now imagine if that scene was spidey instead of peter (the message that needs to be got across to the audience is still the same), there is no why on this earth that scene would work with spidey in a full mask, not a chance. but in the comic you could have spidey 'thinking' that line of dialogue, have him hunched over a bit (sad) and you could 'kinda' get away from it.

movies are a VISUAL medium and whilst comics are a visual medium as well you can spell out dialogue and not only that reader can read at any pace so pacing isn't an issue.
