The Official Avengers Thread (Heroic Age Bendis/JRJR) - Part 1

I really enjoyed Hickman's Secret Warriors but it did drag at times. I'm curious what he could do with the Avengers and how he'd handle it. He's comfortable with a big cast and can think on an epic scale. Depending on who the roster is I'd likely give his run a shot.

I'd like to see Waid, Hickman, or Slott on Avengers. I really hope Fraction doesn't get the job, he's already got me to drop Thor (one of my favorite characters in comics)

I would hope that Marvel steers clear of Fraction after Fail Itself.

He's already got Iron Man, Thor, and Defenders. I don't see him picking up a fourth title. I'm still leaning toward Hickman.

Though I'll give Fraction this, the first issue of Defenders seems promising.

I'm thinking that Bendis' successor to the main Avengers title will be Mark Waid. Jonathan Hickman has a little too much on his plate currently.

Waid's been getting a lot of good reception lately. Between the positive reviews of Daredevil and the previous stuff he's done with Avengers characters and other team books like FF, he's the logical choice.

I want him on Avengers so badly.

Let's just hope it's JLA Waid and not 2nd Flash Run Waid.

Vagina Monsters haunt my dreams. :o

I don't. He's always been a bland superhero to me. He's a bullet proof version of a 70s b-movie stereotype.
I love Cage! I think Bendis has characterised him easily. (Incase you didn't know...I'm a Bendis lover).

Say what you will about Bendis, he's brought Luke Cage up to near A-list material. He's the best thing to come out of Bendis' run.

see, I never cared about Luke. to me, it felt like Bendis was just trying too hard to use a character that he liked, whether or not he fit in the story. Luke Cage just doesn't equal an Avenger to me. But there he is, on the Avengers for almost 5 years. Not because he deserved it, but because Bendis had a man crush on him.

He made me care about a character I'd never liked, in fact I hated him.

The reason why Waid's second run on the Flash sucked because DC totally botched it up and reneged on every promise they made to him regarding the book, resulting in Waid quitting the book by the time the first issue was solicited, he only stayed on for six issues out of loyalty to his editor who he felt didn't deserve to get screwed over.

But asides from his second run on the Flash, the rest of Waid's recent work has been fantastic.

His second stints on a title never seem to go as good as the first. His second run on Cap paled in comparison to the first. His second FF run could be the lone exception.

He don't like Ultimates, or Drz's constant insistence that people read it instead of Avengers. He doesn't realize that they aren't the Avengers. They're the Ultimates. And you know, f**K the Ultimates. :o

This.

There was a time I loved "Ultimates" more than most other titles. That was before teh scourge that is Jeff Loeb got his mitts on it.

I think it's always been over rated. Not a single Ultimate character is likable, apart from the dead Peter Parker and maybe the FF. I don't want to read a book turning people who should be heroes into homewrecking bastards.
