Comics The Official Avenging Spider-Man thread...

Nice catch Thunderstrike. It was more a matter of convenience for Marvel but kudos to you for picking up on it.

Aloha,
Coincidence or not, very good catch:word:

thanks guys...

yeah, the weirdness and the possible coincidence of the numbering caught my eye and just hit me as to the parallel to AF#15 and ASM #1...

kinda like Spidey history repeating itself 50 years later...

The twist at the end of this weeks Avenging was pretty good. I definitely wasn't expecting Jackel to be in the book, nor was I expecting the book to actually start developing its own story arc. I guess this will become less of a pure, one-shot team-up book and more of a legitimate second Spidey book with a focus on team-ups?

And seeing Spider-Man beat the crap out of Wolverine was pretty funny too.

Chris Yost is great. He needs to take on the main Spider-Man title when Dan Slott steps down.

Really liking Medina's art on this title. Past 3 issues have been great.

The last issue of avenging was excellent. Best spider-man comic and best use of this concept since 698 by far. I loved how ock interacted with the group, loved him beating wolverine down (third best spider-man vs. wolverine beatdown ever) and he actually used real logic when his identity was questioned which made sense. So it turns out wolverine is much smarter than daredevil.

The dialogue was crisp and really funnier than anything slott's written in the main title and really played to ock's character without being 50's villainesque (him calling beast a cheater for using alien tech was pretty great, him asking if anyone here hasn't wanted to beat up wolverine especially with bobby's reply). This is what I hoped for, but haven't really gotten, from superior.

Loved seeing the jackal back. People probably forget this but he's actually the guy that was a better geneticist than mister sinister. Speaking of the issue reminded me a bit of the Spider-Man X-Men team up mini with them against Mr. Sinister and Kraven a while back. Which was pretty excellent. (side note it would be awesome to see what happened to that version of kraven).

Aloha,
I've always enjoyed Spidey when there were at least two titles happening monthly. Two artists and writers telling the monthly story gave it a greater depth.Maybe Avenging and Superior will be that for the Marvel Now period.
Speaking of the Spider-Man X-Men. I'd like to see the follow up to those stories myself.

I picked up 16, my first issue of Avenging. Wow, this stuff is great!

Avenging Spider-Man #17 was once again superb. Yost's dialogue is great and his comedic timing is spot on. Is was somewhat disappointing that we didn't get to see him team up with the Fantastic Four half of the Future Foundation, but the kids weren't half bad as substitutes and it was fun watching Otto subjugate them by the end. Glad Yost also adressed why the Time Variance Authority doesn't interfere with Otto's plans, whatever they are. I have to wonder though...is what Otto is planning an Avenging-only thing or if it will tie-in to Superior Spider-Man? I'd expect something this supposedly devious to play a role in the other book as well, but meh, maybe it won't be needed. Chances are what Otto is planning isn't meant to be outright malicious, he just messes up in the process. Will be interesting watching how that unfolds regardless and what role the Jackel will play in it.

Taking Sandman to his secret underwater Doc Ock lair screams malicious intent to me.

Loved this issue. Was quirky when needed and fun

I like that Ghost Pete doesn't appear in this book... yet you know his influence is at work...

:yay:

Okay, is it just me, or does Avenging seem about ten times more relevant, now? We've got a lot more clues to Ock/Spidey's eventual fate, all while retaining the mystery, and we're definitely getting hints that the rest of the MU is sensing something is amiss. All this time, we still have the core title to tell the main story.
Before, it felt like AvSM was just a throwaway title, continuity-wise, and now, it actually feels essential.

Either way, well done.

Yost is an excellent writer... if you can afford it, you should check out his Scarlet Spider.

Agreed.
Starting with Avenging 15.1 and beleive it or not The Alpha mini series, are essential to the whole Superior Spider-Man plot.

I've picked up Alpha #1... I just didn't read it yet... :csad:

As you probably know, I get all the Spidey spin-off books... :o

:yay:

Shouldn't something like that be in Superior? They should make it a 3 parter that crosses over all the books.

Aloha,
#18-This issue features Thor and Electro.Yost continues to write a good story and Checheetos art is just the way I like to see Spidey.Won't spoil the story but the last page continues to reveal SpOcks Master Plan and it's not going to be a scholarship fund in his mother's name.
Spidey rules-Doc Ock fools.....some!

Basically, Yost continues to knock it out of the park. Bravo. And the art, yes, the art's just lovely.

Avenging Spider-Man 18 was magnificent. This book is honestly SO MUCH BETTER now that it is running parallel to Superior Spider-Man. Before, this book and Amazing seemed to be all over the place. The story is MUCH more focused now.

Also...the art was breathtaking!!

Without completely spoiling...
3 Down, 2 to go...Cause 1 is already in play
Though 1 of the 3 isn't in the "Jar"
That leaves K. and C.
Who is the last "Jar" for?

Aloha,
So is the Master Planner, planning to revive the Sinister Six? And if so, how will they react to their New Leader-Spider-Man?
