In all fairness, Kane would have said that for any actor in the role.

I know what you mean as Kane was a glory hog and attention ****e among many other things, but on his death bed he was asked who was your favorite Batman in the movies. He said Val Kilmer and his 2nd favorite was Lewis Wilson from the 1st movie serial!

Keaton is my favorite Batman. I don't get the Kilmer love.

I enjoyed the Lewis Wilson serial. :csad:

Kilmer made a good Bruce. A bit on the bland side, but I bought it. His Batman kinda felt like a lesser Keaton impersonation though. Overall I'd say Kilmer was solid.

It can be considered a "bland" performance. But the character of Bruce, being so haunted and detached, it actually worked in the favor I think.

Kilmer was the only Batman we have seen undertake some problem solving/detective work. I think he was good as Bruce and as Batman, just in a shoddy movie.
Keaton in the first movie did, and a bit in Returns
At least in research

Yeah, I'd take Keaton researching the Red Triangle gang and Bale gathering intel on his allies/enemies/getting the fingerprints off the bullet, to Kilmer solving a bunch of dumb riddles and then coming up with the oh-so-genius "the number correspond to letters of the alphabet" cypher. :oldrazz:

Hahaha
I won't take one over the other

Lol keaton came first so it automatically makes him better...
The voice thing never bothered me TBH

:hehe: yeah tell me about it! Kilmer played Bruce well but he was kind of an idiot lol. Well not an idiot but he's solving super obvious riddles, with Alfred helping him out. Alfred would help Keaton but you always saw his Bruce doing research and detective work on Joker, Penguin, the red triangle gang, spying on Gordon's conversations. Bale as well.

Though I preferred Keatons work in the first movie. In Returns he's basically reading articles or watching Oswald on tv. Or acting like a DJ (that has a bat symbol on it :whatever:).

That right there is so much of why I loved Keaton as Batman. He really was believable.

The best thing about Keaton's Bruce/Batman was his mystery. When the film starts, he's already Batman, but Bruce doesn't even become a focal character until the first act of the film comes to a close. It was pretty cool how we (the audience) learned things about Bruce and Batman through other people's conversations, and later, only minutes before the final act begins, we get the one essential flashback that was all we needed to know about his past.

I really liked that and I imagine they'll return to that idea with the introduction of the new Batman in this upcoming WF film. It's a good approach for a few reasons. Firstly, Batman works well as a mysterious, "myth-like" hero. He can seem more intimidating and unpredictable that way. The audience can form their own ideas about why this man is the way he is, a stark contrast to the Nolan films in which we were shown everything right down to his childhood and later his training. In TDK trilogy, we knew his methods. We saw his fighting skill and technology before he ever put them to use. Now, in this new film, we'll experience Batman's methods just as the criminals (and Superman) are -- for the first time. This was how it was in B89 and it's time to go back to that urban legend approach.

yes!

this is hopefully the same approach WB/DC takes with the new set of Batman films after he's introduced in the Man of Steel sequel. no need to redo the origin. just bits & pieces of flashbacks and that's it.

Superior posting, theShape. I think it is probably the only viable approach, in a 'team up' movie and with a detailed origin story only recently told.

I'll write what you typed on my pillow, theshape
To never forget where is this awesomeness

There is nothing I could say about that. It's just an awesome post Shape.

But writers nowadays don't do that, do they?

It's all about the flashbacks and obvious exposition.

Yeah, nowadays we need a lengthy conversation explaining (a) why the character is doing whatever he is doing at that particular moment, and (b) why his shoes are blue. It's almost like scriptwriters don't realise that films are primarily a visual medium.

I skip some of the exposition boxes and dialogue while reading comics for not wanting everything explained
Sad thing I can't easily skip them with movies, don't know when they end
