The official "Batman" comic book thread

That looks great. After the disappointing hellhole that was Robin #182, this is really the only Faces of Evil I'm really excited about. As usual I love Dini's ability to give other characters the spotlight, I hope she does something horrible to Hush. And Nguyen's artwork is even better than before.

Is this being collected? Otherwise I'll have to buy them when I travel to Hobart.

Rhinos?! :P Gosh Paul Dini sure knows how to torture people lol. >:3 And hey its only about a month until Battle for the Cowl Begins. :)

Lol, Damian beat up Tim Drake in 658. What the hell.

i really need to start reading batman again when it gets out of the slump it is in.
to hell w/ R.I.P.

dini is one of the best bat-writers in a long time. it aint his falt he has to write the P.O.S. story for DC.

return batman to the basics!

**** all this complex *****.

Grant Morrison's stories have quality but it does become complex if you don't follow his story, but he makes the stories so great if you ask me. :- D I just read Batman #685 and it was really sweet, the ending was another good way to prepare for Battle for the Cowl!

Damn what an awesome issue. I don't even know what I liked best Hush's convo with Selina or

his scenes with Dick and Tim especially at the very end. The narration "I'll play the part of the reforming prisoner and be damn sweet about it, too. Because one day they'll drop their guard, however briefly, and I'll be ready." was great. I just hope that promise gets fleshed out during Battle for the Cowl.

I agree, Cain, the latest issue was very good. Of course we know it's going to be inevitable that Hush escapes from that little prison they've made him in Wayne Tower.

Rather stupid of Dick and Tim to tell him some of the security they have installed there. Just gives him time to figure out a way to overcome it.

Yep it was straight up stupidity which is why I can't wait to see how he gets back at them once he escapes because for acting that dumb they certainly deserve it.

Not sure if this is the right thread but I have a question. I was in my nearest comic book store and I didn't see any of the graphic novels I wanted to buy. So I ended up buying Mad Love. Good or bad move? Thanking you.:yay:

read it and find out. i think i read this a long time ago, and it was pretty good. but theres far better graphic novels to spend your money on.

Heh yeah I'll be reading it tonight. I didn't go into the place with the intention of buying it, and as you said there are better ones that are on my list, but unfortunately the place is never well stocked.

That being said, I was sold by the quote from Frank Miller on the front.

The 1st issue is about Batman's and Robin's 1st night together. Its basicly the "4th" issue of Battle for the Cowl, an epilogue so to speak... or a new start to a new serie. =p

Really? I thought it was going to be about Dick re-establishing his relationship with Kal-El and Wonder Woman but as Batman and not Nightwing. Either way it sounds cool.

I have no idea when or how will Dick handle the JLU. Maybe when the Blackest Night event starts rising up or something.

I'll just copypaste what i posted on Batman: Arkham Asylum forums:
Me! said:
So the epilogue or "4th part" of Battle for the Cowl finally got released, focusing on Bruce's death, Richard, Damian & Alfred accepting Bruce Wayne's death.

The issue begins with Bruce Wayne as Batman preparing for his nightly duty, until suddenly someone attacks the Batcave! Batman is surprised by Robin who laughingly jokes how he startled him and "got him" as Batman had asked him to do in Gotham city to be speficic, which Richard quickly smirks that he would have been prepared for it.

We cut back to the aftermath of Battle for the Cowl #3 where Batmobile is seen taking down thugs with traps and whatnot, capturing small thugs but noone is seeing the Batman, as it is Richard as Nightwing still driving the batmobile hiding his face to keep people believe "its the Batman inside" while Alfred and he discuss how they can't hide anymore. Damian Wayne ofcurse smirks how only the Batman should be riding the car, and he is the true heritage of the mantle. He actually leaves the Batcave to go on solo hunt for criminals, oh boy.

We cut back to another flashback this happening 4 weeks ago, where Tim Drake, Alfred and Richard are greeted by Superman and Wonderwoman, who bears the cowl with him, telling them about how even tho Bruce always had a 10 back-up plans for everything it seems the only backup plan Bruce had this time was death. I'm not going to discuss much about this part but i'll just leave this scan (Not taken by me, so don't even bother requesting, buy your comics people :P) here.

Damian almost gets radiated by doctor Prospherus if it wasn't for Nightwing coming to save his sorry butt. :P Overall the issue is basicly Nightwing telling the Justice League how the public can never know Batman is dead, because the fear he brought upon the criminal world should remain there, and that there will always be a Batman. This is where Nightwing and Alfred decide, he can never be a Batman like Bruce Wayne, and thus they leave Wayne Manor and move onto Gotham Central where their Batcave is beneath the parking carages.

Issue ends with the New Batman stopping Scarecrow from spreading his crime on Gotham and thus Batman is reborn to the public eye. :)

Overall it was a good issue that IMO should have been released 1 week ago before "Batman and Robin" but it doesn't bother me that much, the Batman comic issue btw is basicly Batman solo run (no Damian or so) fightning againts Two-Face, Penquin and Black Mask's thugs for starters. :)

I loved the funeral scene. I think it got a little melodramatic at times but I don't usually like Winnick and still enjoyed this. I think certain scenes were more effective than others like I thought Alfred saying he lost a son and then everybody bowing their head was just a bit overdone, while I thought the scene when Dick took out Dr. Phosphorus was pitch perfect. Overall a refreshing & introspective contrast to the fast pace of Batman & Robin.

This should've been released before Batman & Robin. It's a good start, though I'm not totally digging Benes' style in some panels. Loved that Dick flat out said he wants to be his own Batman.

Im enjoying the Batman books again after a years absense of collecting. This newest installment of the "new era" did not disappoint me. Looking forward to whats coming.

The justice league is still in shambles from having the trinity leaving and the real heavy hitters either dead(and replaced with new guys) or with the other league. It will probably be a while before we see batman outside of the main series(with Batman/Superman withstanding).

This is the best issue I've read of Batman in years. I loved Alfred's reaction to Supes in the cave mostly.

Agreed. The book has this nice emotional feel to it not seen in DC lately. With all this Final Crisis ********, they've lost the humanity of most of they're characters, and this issue showed that these characters still have a heart. As mad as Bruce's "death" makes me, I'm looking forward to what this new era can hold, and this issue is what drove me to that direction.

Loved, loved, LOVED the latest issue. I think Alfred was my favourite in it. He had so many great scenes. My favourite was the one in the Batcave with Superman and Wonder Woman there.

Brilliant.
