The official "Batman" comic book thread

That was actually my least favorite Alfred moment in the book it seemed so hokey typical Winnick over the top melodrama. My favorite one came right after when he's talking to Dick.

"They won't care. They'll want to have one of their costumed parades. A half mile of spandex and body armor all lined up behind an empty coffin with a cape draped over it. NO don't let them tale it away from him. All he has now is what he was...and that must go on. Do you hear me?"

now that is what Alfred would do, always preserve what Bruce stood for, keep the symbol going because it was everything to him. That was great characterization by Winnick which shocked me but is what really sold me on the issue and prepared me for the rest.

I'm an old softie at heart, Cain ;)

Seeing Alfred shed some tears over losing his "son" tugged at my heartstrings a little. But that scene with Dick that you quoted was terrific, too. Can't wait to see how this whole Dick/Damien/Alfred dynamic plays out.

Some of this new ish was pretty good other parts not so much but Benes art made it easier to take. Wish he was staying on longer and that he would have worked with Morrison instead of Daniels.

Has it ever been established that Two-Face knows who Nightwing and the original Batman are? =O

Nah but he knows the original Robin became Nightwing and Dick has been a thorn in his side for years now. I find it funny it took Winnick just one issue to have Dick get beat up and in the opening segment at that. He really has it in for the guy which is why I really hope that isn't Jason. It's possible Two-Face could've drugged Batman and one upped him that way cause that looks like Dick's cave and not the manors. The bolded words "MASKS" & "IDENTITY" made me think of him and the fact that Winnick said the first arc is Two-Face centric. But it's just a guess.

Two Face may show up in the red and black batsuit after all (or something similar to it). Remember that Tony Daniels preview image for BotC...Didio recently said that alot of the stuff in that image was intended to appear after BotC winds up as well. Hence Alfred in the combat gear (leading The Outsiders) and Batwoman with the magnifying glass (i.e. Detective). He also explicity references the arm poking out of the coffin. It was in the last 20 Question 20 Answers interview. So yeah may well be Harvey in the preview

I always thought it was quite obvious that ad was in reference to the direction the bat books will take when they return and not just an ad for BFtC but I guess many didn't get that.

Bat-Face ftw :P also another art by Tony Daniel: click me.

Apparently Tony Daniel is writing AND drawing Batman comics in october... I'm having mixed feelings since Battle for the Cowl was okay action story with 3 issues but yeah. Just gotta wait and see.

Well we definitely have a new contender for the worst Batman writer of the 2000's. AJ Lieberman, Larry Hama...or Tony Daniel?

What a joke

Was the 70s Batman comics that good? Some people do not like it cause they think its cause Batman was in the campy era they called it but i heard alot of the 70s comics were great and one of the best.

I know really i cannot take Two Face beating up Dick Greyson seriously. Dick was taught every single move by Batman and Batman one of if not the best fighter in the whoel world. Two Face cannot even fight he one of the worst and he beats the hell outta Batman lol.:o:hehe:

On the one hand I'm like

"yay a Two-Face as Batman story".

Dent's tenure as Gotham's protector is potentially finally explored as maybe Two-Face feels he's far more capable of being Gotham's guardian than "Nightwing". Maybe cause he was her protector when Batman was gone before recently and because he has such turbulent history with Dick since his Robin days.

Then on the other hand I remember that Tony Daniel is really not a very good writer at all and my heart sinks.

I may have to sit this upcoming arc out. I'll peep the first 2 issues and if it's too amateur for my tastes I'll pass on the next 4.

Maybe they are making Two-Face more into a punisher character? Being a vigilante anti-hero. Or he just goess dress-up to mock the new Batman.

Anyhow im giving Daniel a chance because we have to remember BTFC was only 3 issues so things had to be cut. So me being an eternal optimist ill have to see how his arc starts.

Tony Daniel's Blog said:
Edit - Okay - so the news has broken. I've been handed the reigns as Batman's next writer/artist. I can't say, or I dare not say ;) how long I'm pulling double duty for, but this arc is six issues long so they've given me plenty of space to craft a story. A real, honest-to-goodness Batman story. ( I don't count BFTC because that wasn't really a Batman story at all, it was more of a multi-character event, told by three different characters, so you get it, it's not the same thing).

Yeah i'm atleast giving him a chance tbh.

I'm totally iffy on Daniels returning to writing. I think he's a good artist but as a writer he's pretty weak. I wasn't satisfied with Battle for the Cowl. Maybe it's because he didn't have a lot of time. I'll wait and see what happens here.

Thought Jason Todd was the Punisher of DC. Cannot see why Two-Face would be now he too much of a villian.

I don't know about Daniel as a writer, but I don't think it's fair to judge him on Battle for the Cowl. That was a short run whose conclusion (and I imagine many plot points) was already established. That not really giving the guy a chance to create his own story. Maybe this will be a different situation.

(Although then I remember the monologue that Tim used to explain why he survived the batarang to the chest in Battle #3 and I cringe).

Daniels is back....UGGGHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Batman #688. I thought it was better than 687. I like the scenes between Dick and Alfred talking about the cape again. And Dick training with Damian.

Batman and Robin is still better IMO.

Here be spoilers, so beware!

C'mon guys admit it. The Gordon + Batsignal definatly gives you the whole The Dark Knight vibe for us where Gordon talks how the Signal is out there to show Criminals Batman is there, and for Batman that the GPD is there for him.

It was intriquing seeing how off Richard is with the cape, and Alfred literally laughing at his comedic face on the gruff-complaining new Batman. ^^ It was pretty awesome to see Richard and Damian train and how patheticly easy it is to taunt this rascal 10-year old. ^___^ I have to say these Winnick issues are very heavy dialogue but it isn't really bothering me. =p

Issue ends with
us learning that Two-Face indeed recognizes the new Batman as Richard Grayson, and it does truly question the future of Harvey. Will he become the Punisher Bat-face to proof he is the next true Batman? Or what will happen? Better find out next month!

I think the issue was good. I understand Dick is trying to make Batman his own, but at the same time it's a bit of a contradiction to what he said in the previous issue.
In the previous issue Dick is mad that it may be revealed that Batman is dead, yet his inability to adhere to what Batman was has exposed himself to Two-Face. Now granted the public is still under the impression Batman is back, but the supervillians are not because he's grinning and prancing around on camera.

How long do you think Dick as Batman will last? I remember prodigal lasted 14 issues, or something like that? I suppose every 16 years Dick needs to become Batman...
I definitely agree Gordon leaving the signal on was a nod to TDK.

Yes it was. To be honest though that was one of my favorite parts of TDK. I think the idea fits well with this story. Just don't want them to overdue it with dark knight nods.

Who knows how long this will last. Dc could grow a pair and keep Bruce away for a long time. Marvel almost had balls til it brought Rogers back.

Also for a while I couldnt understand why Dick Batman seem so off in look and now I know.

His Suit is too bright. The gray is light and the blue is light so overall the costume is like. Also the eyeholes are round. Dick Batman just doesn't look hard.

Dick really cant adhere to Bruce style. Fighting like Bruce could get him killed(since thats not his style) and I'm sure Dick knows that bad guys who know Batman more personally will notice that Dick isnt him. The voice Dick uses probably doesnt match Bruce. Dick doesnt know the majority of things that have gone on when he wasnt teaming up with Bruce as nightwing. But to the common thug. Dick will be the same old Batman.
