Batman Forever The Official Batman Forever Thread - Part 2

Deleted scenes don't count. If it ain't in the movie it doesn't count.

Yep, until Joel Schumacher/Warner Bros give us the long promised 'director's cut', we don't know what scenes were cut for time or the director's vision. If they were never meant to be included, then fair enough, but we don't know that. But how can you say they don't count when they explain certain plot points that are already there in the existing cut of the film (IE: the red diary, Batman's 'retirement'?

was watching Batman Forever the other day. one of the movie channels, Starz i think, was playing it.

it had been years since i've seen it and i have to say that while the movie is not very good, it is still enjoyable. Val Kilmer was definitely the best part of the movie for me. i'm sure with a better script & director his role as Bruce/Batman would have been even more memorable. liked how they actually showed more of Bruce's business/public persona in this one. something that Burton never really delved on. also forgot what an excellent soundtrack the movie has. U2's "Hold Me, Thrill Me..." has been playing nonstop in my head.

I may be in a minority but I always loved Tommy Lee Jone's Two Face outfits:

They weren't the best but it certainly ain't bad either. TLJ could been great Two-Face in a anther Batman film.

Bleh the leopard skin look on his suit just ain't Two Face's style to moi. The tux he wore at Nygma's party was kinda ok. Still too pink.

WE should really do a director's cut of Batman forever

As long as they include the scene between Bruce and Dick when Dick is using the punching bag and Bruce tries to dissuade him from killing Dent, and the scenes where Bruce sees the giant bat in the cave, it would be worth it. They were the two best ones.

I love this movie and consider it to be the best of the Burton/Schumacher films, forming a perfect Trilogy with Batman and Batman Returns. I also firmly believe that it has become much better-appreciated with the passage of time.

Batman Forever, despite being lighter in tone, is still very much rooted in the noir/macabre sensibilities of Burton's two films, and Two-Face and The Riddler very much feel like they belong in the same pantheon of villains as The Joker, Penguin, and Catwoman. We also get a glimpse into Bruce's psyche that sheds new light on and is consistent with the motivations behind his actions and behavior in both of Burton's films, providing a nice character arc that culminates in him accepting Dick's help.

I love the BF panther suit.

I wish we would have gotten an panther suit action figure back in the day.

Agreed. The one with Batman turning up at the barber shop - I sort of like. It gives a little more to The Riddler's threat and explains why Batman is having trouble locating and stopping crimes.

I have a question: which of the film's villains is everyone's favorite overall?

I really love Jim Carrey's Riddler, and would've paid good money to have seen him do a version of the character for the Nolan films because there's a lot about the character that would've fit quite nicely into the more grounded reality that Nolan established.

after watching Amazing Spiderman 2, Jamie Foxx's "Max Dillon/Electro" is a complete rip off of Carrey's "Nygma/Riddler"

Riddler is my pick from BF. TLJ tried to out goofy that performance and thus didn't strike the duality of the character. The only duality comes from the visuals, really. His face, costume, lair split down the centre, Sugar and Spice, etc.

I am partial to Tommy Lee Jone's Two-Face. Even though it's campy, he still has the menace that Two-Face should have. Jim Carrey, physically, was perfect for the role, but I feel all of his gags are more suited to Carrey than the Riddler.

There ARE similarities, but I wouldn't call one character a 'rip-off' of the other, nor would I consider the fact that they're similar to be a bad thing.

Even though I said above that my favorite of the two villains is Riddler, I've come to appreciate TLJ's Two-Face much more than I used to, and like the way he plays off of Carey. I also happen to think that the over-the-top goofiness of his character actually makes him all the more menacing and dangerous.

Contrary to a lot of reviews, Tommy Lee Jones does do the split personality thing. It's just not amazingly obvious. He does it as 'over-the-top' (shouting and prancing around) and 'less over-the-top' (being camp).

People forget that TLJ's Two-Face has already been around for at least two years prior to the events in Batman Forever ("The second anniversary of the day I captured him"). He hadn't just become Two-Face like Aaron Eckhardt in The Dark Knight. This Two-Face was well organised and a gang leader, having already established his gang for some time. So at this point his main motive is revenge against Batman.

I would have loved to have seen a prequel where we get a proper origin for his Two-Face, and his early days as a super criminal. Aaron Eckhardt was a bit of a missed opportunity.. he didn't do much at all as Two-Face, he was merely a manipulated pawn of the Joker, a vigilante out for revenge against the people who betrayed him.

I used to lament that they hadn't tried to get Billy Dee Williams back for the role (thereby creating a disconnect with Batman '89), but it's no longer the deal-breaker for me that it used to be, and it's easy to imagine that something happened while Bruce was dealing with Penguin, Catwoman, and Schreck that caused Dent to become Two-Face and quietly build his criminal empire.

One of my problems with this film is Two Face's outfits actually. His suit needed to be toned down. His makeup could've been better too, but that part wasn't that bad.

I pretty much love all the other costumes in the film thogh

Its not bad as Riddler's though I prefer what he wore in BTAS.

I love the BF panther suit.

i really like the bat suit in this movie except for those damn nipples

the one thing I hated in Forever was during the attack at Wayne manor Harvey is sitting down and he keeps flipping his coin till he gets the scarred one THEN shoots Bruce. in the comics he would just do one flip and what he would do would be based on the one flip good deed or bad deed etc.

^ To each their own. I personally like that because it shows that he's majorly unhinged.

He flips the coin for every opportunity he gets to kill Bruce Wayne. It may be cheating, but so was Aaron Eckhart when he shot the driver. He still accepts the judgement of the coin.
