I know one thing that's increasingly starting to get on my nerves. That all of a sudden people cite this as the death knell for boxing. Really?
Just a few months ago Pacquiao got away with a decision he had no business getting against JMM. Where were all the hounds at then? He actually got 3 decisions against Marquez that he shouldn't have, and nobody cared. Now that it's Bradley, it's the death of boxing? Where's the consistency...
Yeah, it's just the double standard of it all that bothers the hell out of me. He did himself no favors taking off the first 2 minutes of the later rounds, then trying to steal it with late flurries. Bradley isn't the most skilled guy in the world, but he's plenty tough, and applied whatever pressure he could. On a fractured foot no less. No doubt, Pac should've won, but I just want to know where all these people crying foul were for those Marquez fights?
same thing happened in the UFC with Shogun vs Machida everyone felt shogun got robbed and he ko'd machida in the 1st in the rematch to make a statement
qft.america hates mexicans.
in all seriousness though, yeah it pisses me off that pacquiao stole (at the very least) two decision victories away from marquez. It was universal (other than the pacman fanboys) at the bar i attended for fight when manny got the decision. 95% of the bar was booing and 'calling bs' on the decision, but nobody on espn or hbo had a damn titty attack over it. However, manny gets screwed this time around and the media goes nuts over pacman losing -- acting as if paquiao got drugged prior to the fight.
Justifiably, juan should be insulted and vexed. He fought his heart out three times against manny and he got the shaft, yet a fighter like bradley who clearly got outboxed gets the title.
I don't think Marquez got shafted so much as he simply GOT DROPPED FOUR TIMES. Those points add up, and deservedly so. All three Pacquiao-Marquez wars were razor-thin contests, and if the decisions had been reversed in the Mexican's favor, I believe there would be just as much controversy; those two were made for each other.
This Bradley fight, on the other hand, seems to be another beast entirely. I was working Saturday night, so I'll have to wait for the HBO replay before I can chime in.
I'm not a huge boxing fan, so I don't really care about the perceived double standard against Pacman, and I'm more interested in the fact that this sport is more prone to this kind of judge incompetence than other sports such as Figure Skating which also relied on judges' subjective grading system to determine the winners. And this latest fallout is just going to make people even less enthusiastic about boxing in the future, since many of them are convinced that there's something rotten at the top of the organization.
JMM clearly beat him the last fight, and I feel the 2nd one as well. He was down, but outside of that, he was winning (or should've been winning) almost all the other rounds. Like clearly!
Wow this gave me a laugh, you must have been watching those fights with your eyes closed.Of the 36 rounds they boxed, I have Marquez winning 19 and losing 17. However, because of the nature of how rounds in boxing are scored according to ten-point must systems, I don't have Marquez winning a single fight in the trilogy. It is what it is. They're an evenly matched pair.
I agree, but I will say this: I'm concerned with Manny's interest level in this fight to begin with. It's something I wasn't so worried about with Floyd because Floyd knew Cotto had the potential to beat him if he wasn't focused.
Bradley doesn't really have any sort of reputation or legacy yet, and obviously the whole world is going to be more concerned with what Pacquiao has to say in regards to Mayweather than the fight itself. They're not in the same league, and clearly anything going to the cards won't be in Bradley's favor no matter what he does. But it's not like Manny is hard to find, he's absolutely susceptible to getting caught with a lucky shot.

As for the Pacquiao-Bradley fight, I can't wait to see it for myself. You're not the first person I've heard evoke De La Hoya-Trinidad.
Not sure if you know this (which clearly you don't), but in boxing the point is you have to win "ROUNDS" in a 10 point must system and not the amount of times you drop your opponent in 2 fights. No, I had my eyes wide open for every single time Marquez was dropped on his ass with a laser left hand.
Not excited, but I'll watch it.Just a survey I'm conducting;
Is anyone even remotely excited for Haye vs Chisora?
Not excited, but I'll watch it.
I hope Chisora beats the crap outta Haye.
