Routh is signed. It's official. He's undergoing the transition from actor to Superman as we speak.

Something has really bothered me as of late though. The fact that Brandon Routh was officially named Superman, yet we hear nothing about him apart from some biographical facts, things he's starred in, etc.
Wouldn't some of the biggest casting news in recent memory be more publicized? Shouldn't we see Brandon all over every magazine cover, on every talk show, talking about excited he is to be filling the shoes of Christopher Reeve?
This has lead me to believe that maybe he is a P.R. stunt? That there is another official Superman out there, we just don't know it yet.
I could be wrong, and am excited about what Brandon will do as Supes, but I'm still skeptical.
Superman20 said:its actually a good idea so he can get jacked up before anyone sees him and to keep his public showings minimal so people don't get used to seeing him, otherwise, why bother with an unknown?
I doubt Routh's absence from the media is anything as deliberate as you're making out.IT is Batgirl said:Err, it's called keeping him under wraps until the movie gets going. Blow people away by showing Routh AS Superman.

I think it's just that they're all busy and the film isn't in the can yet.
I bet they're just working hard right now and aren't worrying whether or not fans see more of Routh.
We'll all see him plenty once they ramp up the marketing blitz prior to the release...
But was that a personal choice or because someone at Warner's is keeping him on a short leash?IT is Batgirl said:Actually, it's pretty deliberate. Just recently, Routh had to ditch a party once they realized someone had tipped off the 'razzi.

Really?IT is Batgirl said:I think it's mostly WB. He didn't *want* to leave the place.
triplet said:Really?
Mmmmm.... Why does Warner's even care if he's spotted at a party?
That's just silly.
Would a few paparazzi snaps of him really dilute the potential of the Warner's publicity machine later?
I'm not sure his lack of media attention is really doing anyone any good.
I don't know, maybe you can explain the point...
Mmm, well.... I still think it's silly.IT is Batgirl said:Is it silly? You're going to want to keep your unknown as an unknown until it's time to reveal him as Superman. Besides, it's way too early in the ballgame to start the PR machine. I certainly don't think it's hurting the film.
Honestly, I'm not even complaining about not having more recent pics of Brandon anymore. It makes his unveiling even sweeter.

I dunno, I guess it does make some sense given that explanation but still: he's your star, so why change the way he lives his life?
At the end of the day, it's just a movie and he's just an actor in it.
This isn't the height of the studio system where the studios decided what films you made or who you dated and even who you married.
This isn't the 50's and Routh's not an indentured servent to The Brothers Warner.
It's beyond silly.

The secrecy is a two edged sword. When George Lazenby took over Bond from Sean Connery, they kept him as an unknown....they went so far as to produce posters for the movie with his face a blank and a question mark in it's place. For some it was a mystery they wanted to go and see, for others, they said if the studio didn't have confidence to show his face why should they put down their money.IT is Batgirl said:Is it silly? Interesting... people who don't know history are doomed to repeat it, perhaps?C. Lee said:The secrecy is a two edged sword.
