Did McG cast Routh as Superman? NO! He was a contender.. but he preferred Henry Cavill if you believe the rumours.
According to Singer, it's not.
Oh, really ???...
Who said that? I for sure didn't... Singer, Harris and almost everybody in this production said they won't "mess up" with the character, "it won't be a crazy re-working", Harris said.
If you want the source, do a quick search... this was all discussed before.

'Superman' scoop
Dan Harris makes his directorial debut with Imaginary Heroes, a darkly comic drama about a family in crisis starring Sigourney Weaver, Emile Hirsch and Jeff Daniels. But Harris, whose film is a gala premiere, has made his name as a screenwriter of superhero movies, including X2: X-Men United and the forthcoming Fantastic Four. Currently, he is co-writing the screenplay for Superman. On Wednesday, after I threatened him with kryptonite, he gave me the scoop on the Man of Steel. "Superman, wait till you see it, it's going to be amazing," Harris said. "I wish I could tell you anything about it, but they would murder me. We're almost done with the script. We start shooting in March. Bryan Singer is directing it. It will be a back-to-basics Superman. There will be no changing of the mythology. It will be the most iconic, epic version of Superman told so far. It won't be an origin story.
Alonsovich said:All I have to say is... If you're going to believe everything Singer, Dougherty or Harris tell you... you'll be disappointed. WB is who puts the money, WB is who has listed two of their most trusted producers, Gilbert Adler (Fast and the Furious) and Jon Peters (no need for introductions) on this movie. They are the ones in command... not Singer/Dougherty/Harris... and if they don't like something they'll want it changed (and in the case of Jon Peters this is a MAJOR problem). I'm pretty sure the reason Nolan ended up with that suit was because of WB, not because of him. These franchises don't offer liberty to the filmmaker, even though they want you to believe that...

If it was really McG's dream project, he'd have gotten on the f**king plane. Fear of flying my ass.Alonsovich said:It was also Ratner's and McG's dream project

Actually, Ratner wanted an unknown - Mathew Bomer. McG's choice was Henry Cavill, I think. (Both are better choices than Routh, IMHO)Sverdlovski said:Ratner and McG's choices weren't approved by WB... they wnated unknowns but WB wanted some stupid actor like Josh Hartnett or Ashton Kutcher...
Yes, I wanna know his answer, too.superfever said:btw, where is king krypton???
he hasn't answered my question. why did he think batman will be done bad this time?
I agree.. (DAMN, that's one big nose!) His head could be a little wider, too.Pickle-El said:He looks better when he's not posing for a pic.

Alonsovich said:Oh c'mon. Muscles came here to support you know who. He hasn't been through all the mess that has been before. Singer is the 11th director on board in this project. I'm being realistic... 11 directors in 12 years is too much...
SolidRoar said:My only concern with Singer is that he seems to be using Donner's films as his source material and not the comics.

I was going to change the belt but it looked good allready.

And about the story...JoBlo.com said:Question: What about the costume, will it be the same or something original?
Answer: but it will not be the same costume. Well because todays standards you cant, fortunately I have the benefit of some of what they did, the research they did with Spider-Man, the fabrics and flexion. What is weird is when you put someone in a tight fitting outfit, no matter how defined they are, and how good their body is, a spandex, or todays spandex, well call it, actually takes your definition away, so you have to create the shading, you have to artificially, and then you have to create, no matter how built they are, you have to create still pads, some kind of, they did with Tobey, you have to create some kind of thing. But it wont be like a body suit, I mean hes the man of steel, bullets bounce off of him, not his ****ing suit.
Bryan Singer said:"(...)in my mind, the um, if you are under the age of 18, you, either you dont know whats, either you know Superman as a guy who can fly whos from Krypton, hes got an S and hes got a cape, bullets bounce, you know some things just from general public ______, so assuming if you dont know any of the movies or television, u know that much, if you are under the age of 18, u have Smallville, the television show, if you are over the age of 18, or over the age of 25, or you are and old guy like Gus, me, u know the early movies, you have a vague memory of the first, or you know the first movie and you love it, or a vague memory of it, what Im doing is Im taking the early films, Superman 1 and 2 really, three and four with Richard Pryor, I , I dont, those dont really resonate, Im putting the early films in a kind of vague history.
Telling a Returns story, Im not saying thats the title necessarily, but a story in which he exists, I guess the best analogy would be to Tim Burtons first Batman movie, you got a sense of his reflective history, but ultimately Batman already existed, he was part of, he was a superhero, you know prowling around in the culture, here Superman exists, the world is aware of him, but he has been gone for a period of time, he is returning and so on the outside it is a story of, or excuse me on the sub textural level its all about when messiahs come and bring us good fortune and leave us and then its better they had not come at all, and how the world can move on, and what happens when they come again, saviors that sort of thing. The more textural level is what happens when old boyfriends come back into your life.
