First Avenger The "OFFICIAL" CA:TFA Negative Reaction Thread

Correct, the Marvel comics retconned version of his origin within the Marvel comics version of WW2.

Even his retcons have pretty much kept his origin the same, with very minor differences, nothing that changes the core of his character... I don't know why the Ultimates version left out the Bucky on the rocket senario though... And apparently in the movie he is frozen in a plane?

He's not a character like Wolverine where is original completely changes every 5 to 10 years... his pretty much stays constant....

I read the name of this thread and then the name of the person who started it and it made me laugh.

I wonder, will the existence of this thread mean there will be no negative Cap comments in other threads?

Then we would have a very fascist kind of threads on the defender of democracy, huh? :yay:

I made it because there are people on this board who get too butt hurt over negative opinions. So in order to appease the mob, I made a thread where people can go to discuss what they don't like without having to worry about being silenced.

red skull does not look goofy and from what i hear his make up is great

big white wings hanging off a dudes head is goofy

They obviously didn't look goofy to all the comic fans who grew up with the character. You know what really looks goofy? The unnecessary straps and the helmet with painted on wings. I never said anything about Red Skull being goofy. I'm sure he'll look better than that 90's movie. My point is that no one goes to these comic book movies for realism.

When people say they want realism, I think what they mean is they want all the fun and escapism but textured with real world facts to give it some shape.

An excellent example would be a game like "Bioshock" which successfully reflected the era using music, design and art. Indeed it really adored that time it was set in. Even with its science fiction component, that's what makes it a great game.

Captain America is lacking that at the moment. It seems ashamed of the time of World War 2 because apparently that won't sell toys. Also people say it's escapism but escapism is not the same as stupid. Indeed, it needs to be clever to get people to buy into the world.

Reducing the historical characters from Caps story and reducing nazis as a threat for a more product friendly version would be the same as having Bioshock with rap music because the kids like rap music don't they?

No. The wings do look goofy. They BARELY don't look goofy in comics and they can get away with a lot more in comics...but in live-action...the wings would just look stupid. I don't what how "cool" you try to make them look. Wings on a guys helmet is freaking stupid.

There are ways to make them look pretty cool in real life. An example would be aluminum ones that have more of a stream line look with 3 stripes, like what's painted on the helmet, instead of them actually looking like feathers. And they shouldn't stick out farther than a normal persons ear would stick out, and they should be that large. I say aluminum because the star on his chest and the white parts of the shield are also aluminum colored now.

I agree the wings would look silly in real life. It works that they double as military stripes on Cap's helmet. It's a shame they couldn't pay that much attention to detail elsewhere in the movie.

I haven't seen a big budget representation of the comic wings so I have no idea if it would work in live action or not.

i hope they dont believe wings look silly when they are working on the Flash movie

Nothing looks silly per se in these iconic costumes.

It just takes a top professional to come up with a great idea of how to translate the design accurately.

And a director who understands that's the way to do it.

Hey, look at this. Very true, old chap.

Re. the sidearm.........given that his main adversary will be HYDRA, which possesses futuristic weaponry, with soldiers armed and presumably armored, as the ones in this photo.........

doesn't that sidearm seem like it would be a very ineffective and unthreatening piece of hardware...

Probably why he doesn't have it out... :cwink:

I didn't realise Flash was set in WWII

As if the era has anything to do with it.

Oh my god. The guy can run as fast as lightening. I can't believe he has bolts on his ears. I sure hope they don't set the movie in the 40's because that would totally be unrealistic. Only in the 2000's can a man run as fast as a bold of lightening and sport bolt decals on his head gear.

Well considering the era determines the tone of the film and the costume is supposed to reflect the tone, I would say yes, it does. But thats just me using logic, which has no place in any discussion regarding superhero movies.

I think JJ made a good choice with the wings on the helmet. I wouldn't have objected to having the wings on the modern costume if done right though. It would not fit on the WWII costume at all.

Hell, I hope if they ever do a Namor movie that he doesn't have the little wings on his ankles either.
