First Avenger The Official Captain America Critic's Review Thread - Part 2

Thats what I do Suzanne, I look at the critics I actually care about. I do take others into consideration but if Devin Faraci of Badass Digest give it a bad review I would have been more worried than I am now. He's not the perfect reviewer for me but his opinions match mine more often than not.

CLEARLY, Thor's right up there with Iron Man 1 in my opinion...although I'm probably in the minory (who cares).

I'm with you,I haven't seen Cap yet and so for now Thor is my#2 or even tied with Iron Man as the best Marvel studio movie so far!!

Yep. Devin's another one who's reviews I pay close attention to. Both guys tend to write out exactly what they had issues with and what they love. And they don't turn their nose up if they know it's a superhero movie.

When I saw AO Scott give his positive review, I kind of knew which way the wind would be blowing for me regarding CA :yay:

^Well I'm about to go see it so I hope I come out digging it as much as I dug First Class.:woot:

If I don't like it you guys will hear from me. If I dislike it at least I'll get to drool over Evans.

This movie is like Sherlock Holmes it seems. People either love it or think it was mediocre. I haven't really heard anybody say it was a bad movie and that's the big difference between this and actual 'rotten' movies like Transformers 3 and GL.

never knew you were a lady

Never heard of the guy but he seems like a pretentious knobend who would benefit greatly from occasionally removing his head from his own ass.

I got that same feeling. I bet he had a thesaurus right next to him as he typed. You can always recognize a throne sitter when you read reviews like this.

I really hope the Tomatometer goes up, but I'm fine even if it stays in the 70s

Well you know,

the first Harry Potter has a mid 70s on RT.
the first Pirates has a 70s range on RT.

Some movies don't have to be in the 90s or 80s to be considered amazing films. Captain America will be a comic book classic some day.

True, and I'd say this movie is very comparible to both of those movies in that, there's not a huge emotional depth to the story. They're simple stories with a ton of hart, and some great scenes and effects.

As much as I like and respect Nolan's Batman films, I think they ruined critics attitudes toward these movies. Not every comic book film needs to be a dark brooding introspective to be good.

Don't think of the RT Tomatometer or the Metacritic number as the same thing as a 100% scale you used in grade school (where a 72 RT and 67 MC would understandably be viewed as a D-/ F+). The 72 and 67 are considered Fresh and Generally Favorable. That makes them good movies. Very few consensus sites give movies a truly "great" rating.

I can't stand that 72 percet...though at this stage I dont see it improving. The movie was twice as good as thor and yet this...

As long as you enjoyed the movie does it really matter what the meter says?
