I grew up thinking Bob Kane created Batman too.

You need to study the actual history of Batman's creation and development. Kane is the #3 most important guy in Batman's creation but got all the credit and all the money. He drew what Bill Finger told him to draw. And although Jerry Robinson wasn't there at the beginning, he contributed much more than Kane ever did. Kane wasn't even pencilling many Batman stories by 1943. Later on, he tried to pass himself off as a painter, displaying paintings of clowns in galleries... that were also painted by a ghost artist.

You should turn down the imperatives. I don't "need" to do anything let alone study more Batman. I'm quite aware of the history and anrily lashing out at Kane because you think he gets too much credit doesn't change that. Not everyone is going to share your opinion because you wish it so.

I'm still not clear on who came up with what. I know Bill Finger came up with the cape and cowl aspect of Batman's look, as well as the color scheme. But Bob Kane thought up the idea of a bat-themed superhero with no powers, correct? Who decided he would be inspired to fight crime because his parents were murdered by a mugger? Or that his civilian identity would be a playboy millionare? Or maybe most importantly, that Batman uses fear and superstition as his main weapon against crime?

These two articles should keep you well informed of what went on behind-the-scenes:

Undeniably a black mark on the property, that sadly goes unnoticed. I hope for the day that Finger manages to get credited somehow in all published Batman products. Even if it doesn't come with an official 'created by' tag due to legal entanglements.

What Kane did (and didn't do) and what Finger did with Batman is well-known. It is not a matter of opinion.

Origin-Finger
Civilian identity-Finger
Real name of Bruce Wayne-Finger
Fear and superstition-Finger

Kane came up with the idea of a flying motif that may or may not have been a bat. Some accounts actually say his first design with the red costume, the wings and the domino mask was actually called Birdman.

To be fair....Finger's contributions to the Batman mythos has been mostly ignored or never talked about.....he did more for creating the rich Batman history than most of the general audiences and very many Batman or comics fans realize. So minimalizing Kane to "just a penciller" is no more than what Kane did to Finger over the years.

... something unfair?

It would be nice to see him adapt the alien uniform into the warmer, earthly costume. Maybe you see him coming towards the camera, then once he is in full view, you see the full reveal of the real costume, then he could turn and fly into space, showing the \S/ on the back of the cape, then finally to the flyby like in the Reeve movies.

I know there's no chance in hell that they will do that, but the one thing I would take from the Reeve movies in the flying over Earth smiling ending.

I still think as a crowd pleaser it would get a huge positive response from most of the GA, just as the "Bond, James Bond" moment in Casino Royale got, but realistically it ain't gonna happen. I want to add that Henry's costume looks pretty good (for an alternative look) in the various close up pictures of it that we have seen, but when I see renderings of it in these forums it doesn't look that good. Personally I can't wait until we get some footage of Henry actully moving in the new costume. That'll be the true test of how successful the new design is.

I didn't know that stuff about batman, that s*** is nuts

I guess I was just blinded by the light of the awesomeness

i am doing a superman suit that is similar to MOS

can someoen help with the texture pattern on the blue suit? i looked at every picture but i dont know what the shape is. is it a similar shape like the S shield or is it like on spiderman's suit?

There's a reason they call it getting Fingered in the comics biz. Everyone knows Finger deserved at least half credit, and in reality much more.

I know. And I agree. It was Finger and Robinson, and then Kane, and yet Kane got all the credit (and money). It's a complkete unfair situation.

My point that was Lee compared calling Kane a penciller to what he did to Finger. I'm not sure what he actually emant but what Kane did to Finger was unfair. Bottomline: Kane could have been a bastard but he was still more than a penciller, the same as Finger was more than just a side-name.

Do you really think Snyder/Nolan would put this on screen? I think it's badazz myself. I love the Z on his chest. Looks like an actual General if you ask me.

^^^

I really like that, but I think it may be too out there from the sound of it IMO. Idk, but from how Shannon is talking, I don't feel this is the one. Shannon is constantly saying things like "Zod is just a man", "Zod will not have horns or breath fire". Or like this interview where he speeks of people coming up to him having him Autograph Zod pics...

http://collider.com/michael-shannon-boardwalk-empire-zod-man-of-steel-interview/123459/

"Every time I go to a red carpet or something, there are people that have those pictures of what they think I’m going to look like in the movie. They have me in a Fu Manchu, black SS uniform that’s pretty mind-blowingly awful, and it’s completely inaccurate, but I go ahead and sign them anyway. When I sign the picture, I say, “This isn’t what it looks like. You’re wrong.”

I personally think Zods Krypton suit is a totally new design, as with everything else in this movie being build from the ground up.

:)

Is he talking about that manip with his head on the Callum Blue Zod's body?

Question: does anybody know whether Superman will have a real belt in the movie? In the first officially released photo, it looked like he was wearing a belt of some kind (similar to the new comics costume), but when we see set photos he just has those weird gold lines on the side of the costume and an unconnected "belt buckle" that doesn't seem to serve any real purpose.

I'd be happy if anybody could clear this up for me.

no belt, just a belly ring and some waist and hip necklaces......... since all Superman fans rather have that then red trunks........

Hopefully. I mean, even without the trunks, a belt would make the suit infinitely better.

Agreed. I'm fine with getting rid of the trunks if it serves their story purposes and helps reach out to a larger audience. I do think it gives the suit a certain futuristic, science fiction aesthetic. However, I think just making their take on the traditional belt larger and more prominent would serve the purpose of breaking up the blue. All the extra detailing in the waist area was not needed.

I don't agree with many of Kurosawa's points, but I have to be honest ................ Superman was handled badly by Miller in DKR.

Don't get me wrong - I own it, I still love the book, and I think it's a fantastic Batman story. But the depiction of Superman in it is very far removed from the Superman we know and love. He basically became a lap dog for the government, meekly doing what he's told, and that's just not Superman. He's still a hero, but one who takes orders from corrupt people ............... it doesn't ring true at all with what we know of Kal El.

But then I didn't expect any less from Frank Miller. He's quite a dark writer, and I imagine he 'gets' the tortured character of Batman much more easily than someone like Superman, who is essentially whiter than white and does good simply because he can. Miller has a history of creating animosity between Batman and Superman, with Batman in particular looking down upon Superman. There's plenty of other writers who also create tension between the two due to their vastly different methods of crimefighting, but usually there remains a mutual respect for each other - Miller's versions seem to lack even that.

Miller's take is not even worth discussing. He set out to make an apocalyptic nightmare story for Batman and to a large extent succeeded. It was his take on the 1980s craze with nuclear armageddon and seemed heavily influenced by the Mad Max movies. But don't forget, the nutty Miller continued in DK2 by really doing a job on poor Dick Grayson. That's where I lost all respect for his work.

I think the poll should be removed.

Speaking of the Poll. I would love to see this Poll re-posted from scratch, would be interesting to see if some posters have had a change of heart since there last vote?

:awesome:

The Kewl Kidz find belly rings and hip necklaces to be teh l337.

That's why "this isn't you daddy's Superman" is a terrible thing. Your daddy's Superman was better than your Superman. That's why he was actually relevant back then.

Someone should do it, if it's allowed. :awesome:

Agreed. This crazyness...It's too much.

First off, nice Maroni quote

Second, Kuro I have to say that I agree with those who have said you're being an obsessive purist. Not trying to fan the fires in ANY way, but the thing about adaptations be they TV shows, books, comic books, bios, whatever, is that there are GOING to be both aesthetic and thematic changes from the original material. It's part of the process. But the core essentials of the character are what people know of Superman, and even though I'm not as big a fan as yourself, I realize that sometimes there is a need for change in order to either a) keep the character's relevance to a modern audience that, especially since SR, has become somewhat disillusioned with him, and b) to stand out on its own as a unique Superman story. The costume is ONE element of Superman's character, not the be-all-end-all.

His get-up looks incomplete without the trunks, and my attention is drawn to his crotch area because of it (to clarify, I am a straight male).

That's not to say I can't get used to it later on. It's just going to take some time.
