natural shadowing from the actors muscle tone is perfectly fine

this is my superman color palate any of these would be fine

Must say that my preference is number 2 all the way, or blue 4.

Superman must be bright, to be sure, but at the same time he shouldn't burn our retina's out!

It's been alluded to already, but people need to stop thinking of the costume being a representation of a COMIC BOOK outfit but an outfit that is based in the REAL WORLD.

When picking shades, I try to think of it this way: If I were a superhero and had to chose a costume with blue, red, and yellow, I would not pick the traditional comic shades.

Of that swatch above, the only one I would consider actually wearing myself is 3b.

So, what shades would YOU wear?

Those goddamn colors are perfect-ish... Just depend on severe harsh lighting to bring on the darkness/shading...

That suit is pretty much perfect-ish. The \S/ could be a little better but the overall look is amazing. Now if only Snyder can somehow capture that look on film.

Whatever the origin of the suit in the movie,it must explain why a 21st century guy like Clark would choose to wear tights,briefs and a cape in public.I especially like Birthright explanation which expalins the suit as being based on Kryptonian fashion and clark wearing it to honour his people.

the suit resembling Kryptonian fashion (specifically law enforcement uniforms) is the only reason i can think of as to why he would create his suit with tights and briefs.

It's not entirely necessary that they explain why he wears a costume. They still haven't had to with Spider-Man.

But if they did, I would like to go into the psychology of it, learn more about the mind of Clark Kent and what would lead him to dress that way. One idea I had is the suit could be Clark's own attempt to look like an alien, possibly basing it off retro sci fi serials and things like that.

I think overall, the thing people have trouble suspending disbelief over is that when someone becomes a superhero, that they'd wear a costume. Some heroes have costumes that aren't really costumes, like Iron Man. Or Green Lantern, who's costume is actually the uniform of the GLC. Superman and Spider-Man almost seem to just be expressing themselves by dressing up.

The final suit was designed for the wrestling ring, the first was an improvised version.

Correct. The comics had him wear a net over his face as a wrestler, then he made the Spider-Man costume for a TV show. I don't know why he quit the TV show.

Just a quick mock up..

Took Sebastian Colombos classic suit art work, merged it with his Superman returns suit artwork, darkened the colours a tad, aded a little "sheen" to the material, added medusones amazing \S/shield design...
Not very polished just a quick mock up.. Thoughts?

Only way you can get a costume that looks like that is with rubber muscles.

Careful saying rubber around here, people don't understand how rubber in costumes works in these parts.

I think the rubber look works for Batman bacause he wears armour, but Superman doesn't need it. I mean he's bulletproof.

The ridiculous thing about this concept is that while it is possible in physics to compress something that small, it would be impossible to uncompress it. Take a slice of Wonder Bread and squeeze it into a little ball, and then try to stretch it back out. Not so easy, is it? That's basically what Superman would have to do to his costume if he could squish it down that small, and it's the same reason that Flash keeping his costume inside a ring is ******ed.

In hindsight the "sheen" was a HUGE mistake

The reds were darkened (perhaps too much) but are open to "tweaking"

tried to "de-rubberise" the design a bit

I had to ajust the temperature on my screen, because it looked REALLY dark at first.
