The Official Costume Thread - Part 4

Just had a little fiddle with the one I said I liked earlier in the thread. Changed the colours slightly, the way the cape sits on the shoulders, the red above the belt, the body shape and Cavill's hair to make it more how I'd like it to be.

Full credit to the original artist though, I've just made some amateur tweeks.

My version is on the left, original the right

Really like your tweeks Dude. I wish your tweeks would have continued to those size 18-E Ronald McDonald zapatos.

No one would complain? I dont think so :woot:

Actually, trolls and fanboys would have 2 reasons to complain:

1. New costume in the comics
2. New costume in the movie

No matter what, they will ALWAYS complain about something. About anything. And i think that studios already notice that.

So, whatever. They just play along.

:applaud So damn true.

I really hope they radically change the design on the costume.

I think it's time for a change. Smallville recently ended with that Clark wearing the classic version of the suit.

I think in 2012 it's time for a brand new version of the costume. But still of course keeping it looking classic and iconic.

Screw the haters.

contradict much? if you want a radical change, it would no longer be classic or iconic.

Screw the haters.
my my my, you're just full of class and charm aren't you?

That's what I was going to say; Tom Welling is that you?

Heh yeh it is pretty terrible.. Sometimes you needs to wait a few hours before you see how bad what your working on is.

I think i did it more so for the colours.

As far as trunkless goes I agree with you. It puts me in mind of the Superman clone of the 41 Century and I loved that one. First no cape no trunks that had me at Hello.

Not what I'd want but if they did I wouldn't be too pfft

Superman X is awesome!

I'm not opposed to some tweaks here and there. I'd even be ok with the trunks gone if it's done right, but I do NOT want a reimagined suit. When I first see the reveal I want my reaction to be, ''YES!! thats Superman'' not ''WTF is that??''

Yup, the above is a completely pointless suggestion IMO. It looks so generic and random, like someone put together bits and pieces from different superheroes into a new suit. Looks like a superhero-of-the-week kinda costume.
It's NOT an improvement, so why on earth change it.

And again, I seriously think they put Cavill in Reeve's suit for his audition for a reason.

Don't know if this has been posted but in the supplemental part of
'DVD & Blue Ray Review' with this months 'Total Film' in the U.K. there's an interview with Snyder about the new movie.

The most interesting part which is relevant to this thread is were he says 'As it is, we're going to have to show it [the costume] before we shoot, otherwise someone will post a picture online of it on set'.

Yeah. Superman needs his cape, and the trunks can be done however they do it.

I think it's safe to assume that we'll get every iconic element that the Reeve costume had, but rendered with more modern materials and costume making techniques. Think Raimi's Spider-Man versus the late 70's TV series. Pretty much the same look, but they couldn't be more different. SR had the modern materials etc but unfortunately it deviated too much from the Classic template.

I agree. I think the costume really needs some texture or minor detailing. The Donner Superman costume is fine for its time, but, by modern standards, it's flat and boring to look at. The costume is basically just a blue leotard with the red and yellow S-symbol, red trunks and yellow belt, and red boots and cape. To update it, I think it would be wise to give it texture and add some muscle shading, and so on. Otherwise, I am afraid it would just look like a Halloween costume to the audience.

Here is where I disagree with you. The Superman Returns costume did not deviate from the classic Superman template any more than the James Acheson Spider-Man film costume did from the classic Spider-Man template.

I'm talking about the choice of red, the overly styled boots, cape attachment, S on the belt, tiny \S/ shield etc. Reeve's was very faithful to the Swan drawn Superman and the SR costume was not. In this regard I expect Snyder to be a lot more faithful, but for Henry's costume to really look modern/contemporary and for it to literally POP off the screen..

Yeah that would be sweet maybe the neck hole could be wider but it's awesome none the less

not as good as the original... Sony Imageworks released a 3 minute video of this scene and other scenes from Superman Returns with the cyan filter removed. It looked AMAZINGLY better

i like that

Where is that one? How can I find it?

*edit* I found it and it does look better.
