If DC are going with the high collar, does that mean that not only does Superman lose his trunks, does he also do away with the shirt rip? Hows he supposed to hide that collar under a shirt? Wear a ****ing neckbrace?

ps when is Jim Lee going to learn how to draw an \S/?

From YAHOO News:

...
Lee has also designed the costumes of more than 50 characters, the paper reported.

In a note to direct-market retailers, Bob Wayne, senior vice president for sales, said by rebooting the superhero titles and moving to day-and-date digital sales, DC was positioning itself to let readers experience characters in a new light.

"We have taken great care in maintaining continuity where most important, but fans will see a new approach to our storytelling," he said in the letter. "Some of the characters will have new origins, while others will undergo minor changes. Our characters are always being updated; however, this is the first time all of our characters will be presented in a new way all at once."

It remains to be seen if the renumbering will affect such long-published titles like Action Comics, which reached No. 900 this year, and Detective Comics, which is at No. 877.

Some of DC's titles are already available digitally through apps and in March it joined Comixology's Digital Storefront Affiliate program, which lets shops sell digital comics along with printed copies.

The move comes after the conclusion of the company's epic "Flashpoint" mini-series, also penned by Johns, that has changed the face of the DC Universe and made some well-known characters into different versions of their normal, and entrenched, personalities

... yet it bothers me that Lee's drawing on the 'new' JLA reboot makes Supes take the backseat where past JLA lineups places him in the forefront/middle of the group... seems that the JLA now is centered on Batman (ooops, I forgot the Supes recently renounced his citizenship  Should this be then Justice League of the World (JLW) instead of JLA?)

supes wears turtle necks bro:oldrazz:

i am curious to see this new costume... so far from what I've seen... meh... i dont like the turtleneck too much. i can get used to it, but im not too fond of it, especially with how the cape attachment is... i hate that specific design

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

I am curious to hear what our very own Jamal Igle has to say... Jamal?

I'm not an artist at all, but I doodled this up in a couple minutes to try and wrap my head around the redesign, since I'm almost certain it is what we'll get in the movie.

Shame, I really don't like it at all, even with the slight liberties I took. Also, nevermind the proportions. As I said, I'm not an artist by a long shot haha.

If DC starts drawing Superman flying with his legs apart like your drawing, you can bet your ass the sales would go up.

:awesome:

i don't think DC's newly unveiled suit is what we'll be getting. in movies like this they hire their own concept artists who specialize in designing costumes and suits for fantasy and sci fi movies. they have a much better eye than Jim Lee for what is aesthetically pleasing as far as costumes are concerned. Jim Lee is a marvelous (no pun intended) artist who is a master at his craft, but he's proven over and over again that designing costumes isn't one of his strong points. case in point, this reinvention of Superman's suit done for Wizard Magazine in the mid-to-late 90's...

Superman`s costume doesn't need a redesign. Those who think he does simply dont understand the character. And that goes for the people at DC too.

Haha yeah. I thought about that after I finished. I didn't mean for it to look like flying, but I can see how that could be the case. Ah well.

Though, maybe they ARE going to change how he flies, too, since it's a reboot and all... :awesome:

Threw up in my mouth a little.

Yeah, the funny thing is that Jim Lee spearheading the redesigns is what makes me groan more than anything. I like seeing costumes updated, but not by Jim Lee. I think he already blew it on Superman and Flash (lightning bolt seams on his cowl? Really?).

The trunks are still there... they are just blue... and now looks to have some texture from the chest down... and the forearms are going to look different too based on the new lines put there. I reserve like/dislike till full body.

Doesnt look like trunks. And the "lines" you see are Lee's shadowing.

That is atrocious. Just proves that Jim Lee has improved over the years :woot:

New suit is just Blechhhhh...
My hopes and expectations for the new movie have just gone downhill, rapid style.

New suit SHmyou suit

I whole heartedly believe we will get the traditional costume, trunks and all.

Oh, normally I would agree with you that those are just Lee's lines but not this time. I've studied that man's Superman over the years with a micro scope because too me it was the most perfect Supes of all time. His lines are horizontal, diagonal or vertical. They are horizontal in a standing pose from light to dark for shadow and vertical in flight. And some small areas will have a cris-cross strokes. Not news. But these are diamond shapes that go from his abdomen all the way down to the legs and all the same size... I would like to think that if it were just his flight lines it would be in an ascending fashion. As far as the trunks still being there that's clear they are (look at the lines and his legs are not bent so there's no reason for them) just the same color blue as the rest of the suit. He did this with his Batman. Lee's trunks for Bats are the same grey as the rest of the suit. The diamonds might be a stretch but the trunks I'm 100% on. Now if I'm wrong I am fine with saying so. But I very strongly doubt it.

For the movie: I don't think it will be the classic suit but I am starting to get the vibe that there will be trunks

But I may be wrong it's just a vibe

I'm not big on the DC Relaunch in general, but the new suit to me seems just silly.

There are certain gimme's you get with Superman; He can disguise himself with just glasses and body language, he is weakened by radioactive pieces of his homeworld, and he wears his underpants on the outside.

I believe you got the Top part right, but the bottom is probably wrong (based on the small part we see) The cape seems longer, the red parts on the legs seems to be a lighting illusion since it follows the lighting of the chest and underarm. Belt seems to be red and have a different buckle too.

We'll see once we get a better look at it, but the top seems to be spot on!

EDIT: looking at it again, the belt may be yellow, but why shade it red?

I could be suprised, but I believe they won't make radical changes to the movie suit, at least not the first movie, maybe the sequels. Warner's has alot riding on this, and the luke warm reaction, at best, of the Returns suit is fresh in their colllective memories. Cavill almost has to look superhuman in the first picture, outstanding, remarkable, unbelieveable, etc.. in the first picture.

I think everyone at Warner's and with the movie knows that, I doubt they would go crazy, it is far toooooooooo risky

Remember how everyone thought the JMS WW design was for future live action adaptations? Nope. Not entirely.

I expect the MOS suit to invoke the relaunch in some ways though.

it would be very unwise for the movie to match this marketing ploy from the comics. first off, the general audience is very clear on what supermans suit looks like, they will not be comfortable with something different. secondly, this new relaunch suit has not been tested. it may very well fail (and i hope it does), and then the movie will look just as foolish and dated.

This.

I'm wondering if they "redesigned" the S just so he could use his own lazy interpretation.

I guess it would be one thing if his Superman S was just his own unique design, but to me it always just looks like he half-assed the traditional one. Because if you read a Superman comic with Jim Lee's art, there's no consistency with the S. Occasionally it will look the way it's supposed to, but other times it looks completely warped. I've never viewed him as a lazy artist (love his Batman design and other stuff) but (IMO) sometimes he draws Superman like he doesn't give a f***.
