You're really expecting actors who disappear completely into their roles for this movie? You poor thing.
No, I'm expecting people to finally learn and stop being so naive. I guess that's impossible though.

Look at Dunst's character, how different she was in SM1 and how completely changed she became in 2 & of course in 3, where she became a w***y b...h! Matter of writting my friend (and no, I'm not a Dunst suporter, she wasn't a good MJ to start with imo, but anyway, I hope you get the point). She was the closest to MJ in SM1 anyway.

Dunst clearly didn't care about the movies though, and it showed. Not that I'm saying that all actors need to be passionate about every role, but she was just so apathetic it was unbearable.

And anyway, my point earlier is that many times an actor's personality or normal persona matching that of a character is a boon because it makes the portrayal easier and more believable. I haven't seen much of Stone so I can't comment on her, but playing against type doesn't always work.

sorry but

BAD MARVEL AND SONY, THATS A BAD MARVEL AND SONY

you had the perfect girl for mary jane and you cast her as the boring blonde. but i digress we're all meant to hate MJ at the moment so what was i expecting

To me this just seems to be a casting mistake. Emma isn't soft spoken enough to be Gwen, even for the Ultimate version.

This casting decision is about as bad as Mia Wasikosia as the Black Cat, lol.

If I had my way I would have cast Dianna Argon as Gwen Stacy and Elena Satine as Mary Jane, would there have been any complaints that way?

Why does her attitude matter?!? Why is everyone thinking her personality matters if it's close to MJs?

A good actor/actress should be able to pull any type of personality which the characters that they are playing have! I dont see how their real life personality matters, especially since they dont write their characters. If MJ is written like a boring emo girl, then Emma Stone would play that kind of MJ (just giving an example), regardless of her personality!

Her attitude has played a gigantic part in all of the movies I've seen her in. Her attitude has molded her career. Look at her body of work. If her being "good" means that she should be able to play anything, then Sony might as well just cast her as Spider-Man himself. If she's that good, then she should be able to portray a male character. :o

(^That was sarcasm.)

I also clearly stated that I don't think that Emma Stone will flat-out stink as Gwen Stacy. My problem with her casting, though, is that I think she's better suited for Mary Jane. I feel that if she were playing MJ, then she'd be able to shine more as an actress (because I think MJ is a much more interesting character, but I digress). Like I said in my other post, I think that Sony is wasting some real potential, here. The final product may be good, but I have a feeling that some fans might think about what could have been.

As stated before Gwen did have an attitude, if anything, MJ became more like Gwen as time went on. Gwen was the tough smart daughter of a cop, MJ was the carefree party girl who had a deep inner pain due to her crappy home life. Hell, psychologically speaking, MJ might have intentionally tried to become more like Gwen because of Gwen's generally stable home life and because she saw how perfect Peter and Gwen's relationship seemed.

I think Emma would be better suited for MJ, but she's a good actress so I think she can pull off Gwen.

There will always be complaints. I never heard of Elena Satine but I dont like her look and dont think Id want her as MJ. Id be fine with Dianna as Gwen though. Ultimately whats' done is done. Unless they drop Emma or she pulls out, she WILL be Gwen. I think people just need to calm down and wait till we actually see her in the role and what they have in store for her. She couldnt flop but she could very well be surprisingly awesome. She wouldnt have been my first choice but Im not ready to just write her of

Alec Guiness thought Star Wars was stupid. Didn't effect his performance.

As for playing against type... yeah it doesn't always work.... sometimes it does. What were we talking about?

Alec Guinness was far above the talent level Dunst has shown.

Probably, but that depends on what exactly you hate about Gwen? I'll admit that she's unbearable as the "perfect girlfriend" she's been remembered as, but she actually wasn't when she was alive (and you don't need to have her go ****ing supervillains for that either).

you hit the nail on head SF, its the perfect idol writers have made her into, when she was alive, she was boring but at least you could stand her, just barely

i will be the first to say sins past was a piece of ****, but at least someone tried to do something different with her, it could have worked just not the way it was done

have her sleep with harry thats more believable

gwen was just someone who had little to no interesting character development until she was thrown off a bridge and even then that has been driven into the ground so much

and then there are the fans i once said i disliked the character on these boards and was mauled like i had slaped someones granny

i don't mind her being in the film as long as they have the balls to do the pay off and i don't think they will

The idea was that Peter would have married Gwen if she wasn't killed. The readers always believed they would marry even though MJ was always the more exciting girl.

Gwen was far from boring, she was just well-adjusted and had a general lack of issues. So she didn't really need any character development. Plus, the more I look into it, the more it seems that MJ's character development moved her to Gwen-like territory.

I think that Gwen should be Peter's first love in the movie with whom he's able to let his guard down. Then in the end she betrays him and is killed (thrown off a bridge). Then when MJ tries to comfort him, Peter wonders what is the point, because "the B*tch is dead".

to me she was, she was to perfect there was no drama with her. maybe i'm more pissed with the more so after death effect of the character.

to me gwen was the sexy little blonde everyone fancied stereo type. it's been done to death, if they hadn't killed her off it could have ended up with really bad bad stories, not saying we haven't got that with mj, trust me i'm not blind we've had them in droves, mj at least had a character arc. she's better suited to peter as they have a lot more in common

i know i'm a lone voice in all this, i've read comics i liked with her such as spider-man blue but even that part of me was thinking let it go already.

i've never seen spectacular and i've been told she works really well in the show

it's just my opinion and i don't want to try and change anyone else views, hopefully stone can do something with the character, i think she's been cast in the wrong role but i've been wrong in the past with stuff like this but we'll wait and see

That was surprising I thought she was going to be MJ. I had no idea she´s actually a natural blonde. I´ll check Easy A and Zombieland to get a sense of her acting.

For what it's worth, Emma has said in interviews that her natural hair color is STRAWBERRY blonde (the same as Bryce Dallas Howard's natural hair color ) and she normally dyes it a darker red.
