My money is still it being Captain Stacy's funeral. Between Gwen's expression and the police officers in attendance, standing behind her.

Actors are always signed on for sequels, regardless of their character's fate.

Uncle Ben and Norman Osborn died in the first Raimi film but both Cliff Robertson and Willem Dafoe re-appeared in both sequels, in flashbacks. Same probably goes for Martin Sheen, in case they want to use him in future films (for flashbacks).

Good points; although, I still think, given what Leary said... "Stacy Lives."

I forgot about the officers in the funeral procession... maybe the squad of SWAT(Lizardmen) was killed; and, Gwen is merely joining her father in honor of those officers lost.
