FF hasn't had an AMAZING game since VII imo. 8 was good, 9 was uninspired, 10 was atrocious, the basic premise of 10-2 made me want to self-harm etc.....but this has been a long time coming, if it's 3/4 as good as VII i might just wet my panties.

NINE was uninspired, but EIGHT was GOOD?! Uninspired, as in "oh, what a coincidence, all the characters grew up together just a few years ago and we've all forgotten about it already, wow isn't that deep!"? Ohwait...that was 8. Nevermind.

Not that 9 is innocent....all is well until the last disc, when Squaritis steps in:the main character is actually related to the main villain in some way and there's a world destorying scheme afoot! Plus, there's another villain who's REALLY in charge and will now mysteriously appear!

10 has been the best since 6-unlike the other games, it had something to say. Something topical and relevant. How anyone who appreciates a good tale can't appreciate the allegory of 10 is beyond me....unless you're blinded by religion as the confused characters of 10 were. That's 10's only really big falling point....they never really covered what happened when all of society realized that their religion was false and their way of life contrived.

Anyhow. 7 flat out sucked ass and was the most shallow, juvenile and boring game in the series. Well, maybe not as bad as 5. Eitherway, read on, and realize that your golden icon....actually sucks.

Oh I think we have a FFIX fan. I don't know what it was about the game, but it just never gelled with me. It's just not as memorable as the others. Great games should be memorable.

Yup. Hated that in FFVIII. The game was good, but I still consider it as a second-tier Final Fantasy.

Actually, I didn't care much for FFX the first time I played it. I decided to give it another go a couple of months ago and I can't believe how much more I loved it the second time through. The game's story has a very human core to it and the plot is a lot more intimate than in other Final Fantasies. I simply loved the father-son subplot of Tidus and Jecht. And Auron's side of the plot was so well written I honestly believe it's one of the best character arcs ever to grace a videogame. You get so much more out of FFX on a subsequent playthrough, I advise everyone who's played the game to give it a try. Really, the game's a masterpiece. It's just not apparent on first impression.

Strongly disagree. A lot of his criticisms aren't even valid. The "poor English dialogue" argument holds no weight because it was butchered in translation and that's a well-known fact. "Annoying archetypes and cliches"? Yeah, fits about 99.9% of games stories like a glove. A lot of his jabs is simply mindless fanboy bashing. I'd give a damn about what he said if he at least tried his hand at proper criticism with some objectivity but he's made it obvious from the start that he has an axe to grind with the game and it shows.

FFVII still undeniably ranks right up there with FFVI, FFX, Xenogears and the Chrono games as one of the finest turn-based RPGs ever created.

Why should one negative article amongst the many positives change the mind of somebody who originally liked the game? Surely they are capable of making the decision themselves.

Personally, I liked VII, VIII and X. Not so keen or IX or X-2.

I can remember all the 'great' games that I've played. They're memorable for me, if not the general public.

Of course, some games are memorable for other reasons. I remember some of the really crappy games I've played too. It's the ones in the middle that fade into obscurity.

Yeah, I just read that in the ads in todays paper. I'm glad I didn't reserve it. Come Tuesday my first stop is Circuit City. I mean one of the greatest games coming to PS2 for $38, thats a big wow to me.

If they are sold out, then you can usually take their ad to a competitor like Best Buy (not sure if gamestop would do it) and if you show them the ad, they will sell it to you for the same price.

Though, if you're going to put any spoilers down, use spoiler tags. Part of the beauty of Final Fantasy games is the surprises, and there are supposed to be many a twist in XII. We want to find them out ourselves.

Well, here's the jist of it....skip it if you don't want to be spoiled. Zidane is a runaway member of genetically engineered monkeytailed superrace by the big bad guy, and the cloud thing you constantly saw was the real bad guy. It never bothers to explain who, what, why it is, you simply smash it and run. That's the jist of it. Pretty disappointing, really. Oh, and then there's a bullet time effect, too.

BTW, for those of you having second thoughts on the CE after seeing the CC ad - you can always cancel and get your deposit back. I was thinking about doing that, since the CE strategy guide is 30 dollars and I don't want to spend $100 on one game, but I want to play now so I'm shelling out the extra cash. The CE strategy guide comes with an artbook, which I'd prefer over an extra DVD with videos that will be on youtube in a few weeks.

So far I loved all the FF's from I to tactics to XI. My favs being VII, VIII, and X. Only one I hated was X-2 which is non-canon to my deluded mind. Anyway, I hope the trend of greatness continues with XII and soon to be released XIII. And hopelly I will have FFXII by the end of today.

I consider it non-canon as part of the trye Final fantasy series as games, but canon in terms of storyline.
