hey Dorky just curious so don't take this the wrong way, who exactly would you suggest to play Goku is Chatwin is such a bad choice?
Casting took place in LA, Hong Kong, London, Vancouver and Durango.Asia is an enormous continent with and enormous population and a very high percentage of young aspiring actors who are masters and black belts in the arts. I doubt they looked over there...oh yea but that would mean they were going to actually try and get the movie right...not in hollywood. LOL
one of the things i was afraid about Chatwin playing Goku was his appearance as a martial artist and fighter. i remember watching a War of the Worlds scene where Chatwin's character gets mad at the aliens and decides to take it upon himself to fight them without his family. instead of feeling his anger and intensity i just felt like punching him in the face. i dunno what it is...i'm sure he's a nice guy to hang with, but his angry face just makes him look like a little punk..

...he doesn't look like a fighter. he looks like an annoying weasel. i know it's not his fault, because that's just genetics...but i can't get behind someone that looks like a brat when they fight. whenever Goku gets angry or mad you should be able to feel his pain and want to see him kick some @$$, but with Chatwin it's the opposite for me. i want to see him get his @$$ handed to him.....and that was even before he got the role.
this is just ONE of the many reasons why i don't think Chatwin should have been Goku.

ok how many of those aspiriing actors who masters and black belts can actually act and speak fluent English for a movie produced by an American company. And you can think of some, name them, don't just suggest there are, prove it
All you're probably going to do is google some random random Asian actor or martial artist that you think looks like Goku
I support this film. Do you see a problem with that. Maybe my standards are inferior to yours? Neh.It's like supporting Batman And Robin and asking why clooney is such a bad choice for Batman...LOL that's why I'm just amazed at the level of support this movie is actually getting from people...who are these people?! LOL
They should have gotten Wilson Yip to Direct it, Donnie Yen to Choreograph it, and all Fox should be doing is funding the project with Asia behind the entire production. This is their baby based in THEIR culture. Speed Racer is always brought up when I say this...but honestly that was based on 007 and American Nascar racing so it makes sense the way it came out. This is not the case of Dragon ball at all.
honestly, even if they approached him to do the project i still don't think it would've been possible for scheduling reasons, but my model Goku would be someone of the likes of Takeshi Kaneshiro of 'House of Flying Daggers' fame. fluent in several languages, lots of martial arts action experience, and a huge following in Asia. he's a lil' too old now but like i said...he'd be my model for Goku.hey Dorky just curious so don't take this the wrong way, who exactly would you suggest to play Goku is Chatwin is such a bad choice?
You know, it's ironic I was just thinking about Ip Man when I saw Goku doing those fast punches.. lol what is bothering me now is that from what I've read, Wilson Yip is considering Jay Chou or Aaron Kwok(who is TOO old) to play Bruce Lee in the Ip Man sequel. We don't need pop singers playing this kind of role. >=(

kaypain suggested a different actor who i think is more suited for the role. his name is Jon Foo and he's Irish/Chinese, born in England, but living in LA.

i don't know how well he acts, but i honestly could care less. if they're not going to give any depth to Goku then they might as well get an actor who can at least pull off the physicality of Goku. unfortunately his scheduling would've been bad for this movie as well since he's playing Jin Kazama in the Tekken movie, but if Fox had given the director more time to prepare for the movie instead of rushing it into production then Jon Foo might've been available for shooting, especially considering he'd already done a commercial for FOX Kids (as seen in that video)....but i guess we'll never know.
thank god that you dont care. i also dont care. an actor in a DB big budget summer movie doesnt need to be an oscar actor.i don't know how well he acts, but i honestly could care less.

this guy looks interesting. has an interesting face and looks like he could kick some ass.
Well I do care how the actor acts... and I don't know if that guy is good enough to star in a big budget summer movie. Last thing we need is another Jamie Chung in the movie but its Goku. (Bad acting)
HaHa everybody got to start somewhereChatwin is a decent actor. He was great in Chumscrubber and did a good job in The Invisible.
Hahaha his first role in film
Thanks, he would make a kick ass Goku, is there any videos of him talking, I think they picked Chatwin because of the highschool crap, if the movie was about a boy growing in the woods they probably would have casted someone more.....oriental
