Heres the other picture of Justin Chatwin from HoyCinema!

Chatwin definitely has the Goku Vibe here. :word:

i know his hair isn't done up the way like it'll be in the actual movie, but you can kinda see what they're going for. the length at the top is good, but i still wish they would have made his hair a lil' more faithful. making his hair long at the top, without lengthening the sides, kind of makes his face look small since he already has a long forehead. the picture of him with the kid kinda makes him look bigger, but the picture of him with the elder man shows he hasn't gained much muscle mass. i know he's only supposed to be a teen, but most martial artists who've been training for more than a year still have good builds. you can tell Chatwin's not very athletic. as of right now...these new pix haven't changed my opinion about him, but i still want to see him in full Goku mode.

For me I think his hair is fine as is & is as faithful as it needs to be. I never really wanted it to be that long for the movie. It'd look kind of ridiculous.

it would look ridiculous only because they're grounding the movie in a semi-realistic setting instead of a fantasy setting. Cloud's hair from Advent Children didn't look ridiculous even though it's basically what super saiyen hair would look like if it were real. it fit in the world of Final Fantasy because other characters wore hair and outfits that were just as outlandish. however, once you ground something to our real world (even by a little bit) then things become less outlandish and the more fantastical elements start to look ridiculous. this is one of the reasons i'm really concerned when it comes to Piccolo. James Wong grounded the movie in a semi-realistic world, so Piccolo stands a good chance of sticking out like a sore thumb...where as if the movie were to be done in a more fantastical setting he (along with a more faithful hairstyle for Goku) won't look so out of place.

He's supposed to stand out. He's an alien evil namek-jin person (lol). While everyone else is not an alien (except Goku, but no one knows that).

whatevz, Jappo.

This is true! Chatwin's body bulkiness is perfect for Dragon Ball! If they decide to do a sequel Chatwin's going to have to start doing a lot of weights to get the Goku physique.

The other day I was watching one of the Cell episodes and saw Goku and thought "Jesus, how huge would REALLY be?" Younger Goku is definitely less buff, Chatwins got the look right now.

Right, they can afford to be a little more lenient on Goku's muscular physique in this one. Chatwin's just about right. They might have him on a slight protein diet and lifting a few weights, but nothing big. He'll have to go Tobey Maguire for the sequel though, yeah.

sorry guys, but i TOTALLY disagree with you. i know teen/young Goku isn't supposed to be super buff like he's drawn now-a-days, but Chatwin doesn't have the body of someone who has been training in martial arts. with his build, he actually looks like a skater. he barely has any muscle mass and there's no sign of definition. i never expected whoever was going to play young Goku to be uber buff, but i did expect him to look like a martial artist. Chatwin simply does not. if anything i would've liked someone with a similar build to Taimak from 'the Last Dragon'...

...the guy wasn't even that big or built. he was 21 at that time, while Chatwin is already 25. there's no reason Goku (who's supposed to be one of the greatest martial artists in the Dragon Ball world) should look like Chatwin does. i'm not placing the full blame on Chatwin. he simply didn't have enough time to get in shape...but never-the-less, he doesn't look like a martial artist.

I think that'll be fixed as time improves. Since they are still filming, for all we know he's still working out in order to be in better shape. All I know is that it's a big chance that he'll get in better shape as time progresses & as the sequels roll around here. Then again, as you said, it isn't his fault at all.

There's still seven months until release. I'm not sure when they plan to wrap shooting, but three months alone is more than enough time to whip a lean body into fit shape.

Could be that they plan on giving Goku the pre/post-training physique treatment in this one, instead of waiting for the sequel. Which I'd be cool with. Training under the likes of Muten Roshi or the Kami-sama is bound to put you through a transformation of both mind and body. They may have only shot a few initial scenes with Goku before he begins his training to defeat Piccolo Daimao.

He may bulk/tone up in these coming months. Whatever happens, I'm sure it'll show up in JP's blog.

Yep yep. He doesn't need to be too big though, just big enough to where he looks more like a martial arts fighter.

Btw, isn't Chatwin learning martial arts for his role? I sure hope so.

If they're teaching Bulma, they've GOTTA be teaching Goku, heh.

"In prep for the film I've been training very hard, learning how to fight, fire a gun, weapons training and even some martial arts."

That was from Emmy's MySpace blog.

Here's another short bit from C2F back in November.

"Chatwin is said to be undergoing martial arts training for the part of the genocidal alien who turns good and protects the Earthly humans he was meant to destroy."

That's good, I hate it when in movies some actors are too damn lazy to learn what they need to learn & they end up having a stunt double portray all of the moves for action/fighting scenes.

i know they have 7 months till release, but they only have 2 more months for filming. i remember JP stating that Ben Foster had only a little over a month to get in the shape he did for X-Men 3, but Chatwin's known to have been cast for Goku since mid-November. that was 2 and a half months ago and his body has barely changed. i seriously doubt it'll change much more in the next 2 months of filming.

that's why i said it's not FULLY his fault, because even though he was given a small amount of time to get in shape, he still had a month and a half before filming started to at least get a decent build. as JP stated, Ben Foster had only a little over a month. if Chatwin had the kind of commitment or initiative that Ben Foster had he could've gotten into decent shape, but as it stands...he still looks like a skater and probably will for the duration of filming.

Yeah, it's too bad. There's still hope for him to be able to get into better shape but we'll have to wait & see. If all else, the guy needs to have some rock hard abs like nearly all of the DBZ characters have.

Ok, when you get new pics please email me or something!!! :wow: I just came by on a whim after :indy:what the hell, indy! taking a piss and now you have new pics... jesus people

It shows his current physical status and hair style. That's definitely worth seeing at this point in time. Hell I'm from the old school dialup days when we used to **** our pants from seeing blurry episode 1 photos... then spend days speculating about how the clone wars and fall of the republic would happen. And so I never got laid.

I think the difference is that Foster was training JUST to build muscle and was training insanely to meet the deadline. Chatwin, I think, has only been doing martial arts/stunts training. So, while he is definitely bigger than he used to be, he isn't as defined as Foster became.

it's true that Chatwin would've had to pull double duty to train in martial arts as well as build muscle, but even if he divided his time between training and bodybuilding, his martial arts training would have maintained whatever muscle mass he gained and maybe even give him more definition. that's the drawback of casting an actor that doesn't have the build or the experience along with rushing the production. this is why i don't understand why James Wong cast Chatwin. he doesn't have the body, he doesn't have much acting experience, and he didn't have much martial arts experience either. looking at the situation from a logical perspective, Chatwin is totally wrong for Goku.

He is...I wish the had of got a different actor..Hopefully will be alright for it though..

Indeed. I wonder if he had a personal trainer outside of 87Eleven.

And just for a disclaimer, neither Dorky nor I are bashing Chatwin in any way, so please spare the same tired responses.
