The Official Goku/Justin Chatwin Thread

from what im seeing in the cast list and plot, they've already done that. :whatever:

in response to everything else said, i am just simply stating how i feel about this movie. i've been a fan for years, and i will no doubt see the movie, but i dont feel that a live action film is necessary, and from what info i've seen on this film already i just dont think it will be very good

Nobody knows enough about the film to have such a strong opinion of it. The cast might disappoint you but until we have a trailer I don't think your strong assumptions can hold much merit.

Yep, all we have is a bunch of people assuming the cast is bad without having actually seen any footage or trailers to prove it.

i, for one, am not assuming anything about the cast. my opinion of the cast is based off of judgment from their past works, which is perfectly acceptable. i know from past work that Chow Yun Fat is a magnificent actor and the Emmy Rossum seems to have range. i know from their past work that James Marsters is a good actor and Jamie Chung is inexperienced. and i know from his past work that Chatwin doesn't display any characteristics that scream "Goku" other than those big eyes of his.

you guys should really stop making it out to seem like that just because we don't have much hope for this film that we are making premature assumptions. i didn't have to see a trailer for Elektra or Ghost Rider to know that those movies were gonna suck. i based those predictions on the production. you can watch the making of a movie and predict how it will turn out. saying that you have to wait for footage or a trailer in order to have a justifiable opinion is ridiculous since most of the people that keep saying "wait for the trailer" have positive opinions.

That's not how we're making it out.

People don't have much knowledge about this film that are making premature assumptions. NOBODY knows enough about the film on these forums to either praise it or trash it. We can only be optimistic or pessimitic. People saying "it's doomed" or "it will suck" aren't justified until they have something tangible to back it up with.

All we know is the cast and crew list and their previous work.

We can assume the CHUD.org information was based on a early draft of the script. So... we really don't know much.

yeah but you're not going around telling people with a positive opinion to wait for the trailer or official footage. it's only the negative opinions that bring up those responses. no one is going around telling people to wait for official footage whenever someone says this movie is going to great. you have a point...but it's only ever brought up whenever someone has a negative opinion. it's a double standard.

Well, I for one am waiting until footage/trailer before I confirm my optimism is either justified or not. Yes, negativity evokes responses far more then positive ones do, but I do try to point out the whole "let's just wait and see" stance to anyone, regardless of their views. At least with this movie.

Yep, that's what I've been trying to do as well. Also, as far as the cast goes, Goku one of the main characters that absolutely needs to be pulled off for this movie to work. If he's not done right, then this movie will be instantly finished. However, I'm staying positive as far as everything about the movie is concerned.

Not to be pedantic, but I suspect this is in part due to the way the views are phrased. Often, the optimists simply say that the movie 'has the potential to be good' as opposed to be 'this is going to be the greatest movie in history' where as the pessimists say 'they will screw it up' as opposed to 'this could suck'. While I know this is a broad generalization and oversimplification, what I'm saying is the reason the pessimists get called on more often is due to the strength of their statements.

I think Goku's personality is pretty translatable. The question for me is if Chatwin/Wong are going for that or if they are trying to reinvent Goku. Only time will tell.

Sorry, nothing against you. :D All in good fun. But yeah, you're right. Pessimistic statements are often callous.

Goku's innocence, cheerfullness, and naivety matched with his optimistic, focused warrior side could be difficult for some actors to handle. Especially with how energetic his personality is. Regardless, I hope they go for that. There are very few hero characters like Goku, which is one of the reasons why I like DB/Z.

The thing that makes me doubt Chatwin is right for this movie is he looks kinda.....miserable, I'm not saying he can't be happy, but he seems to lack that kind of charm and happy-go-lucky aspect of Goku, IMO it is this characteristic that makes Goku Goku. For me the hair and buffness of the character takes 2nd priority, it's his personality that is most important for me. For all those DB fans out there just remember what made you fall in love with the series, the charm of the series is what gives it life and nobody had as much charm as Goku. Just look at the fantastic pic above me and wonder, is Chatwin capable of this, maybe for Emo Goku, but not "our" Goku.

At this point we can only hope that Chatwin can have the same benevolence and joy that Goku had in both the manga/anime. No matter how hopeless a situation was Goku never gave into depression. To give Chatwin some credit he has only been casted in these "Emo" type roles. Maybe the role of Goku will be able to show that he is a versatile actor that can display more than just the typical emo kid.

We have to just wait for a trailer b4 anyone can pass any judgement

And here is a pic we take with actor JUSTIN CHATWIN, who is representing GOKU in the film of dragon ball, recorded here in DURANGO.
This pic take yesterday, Tuesday March 11, in paseo durango.

Ohh and curse i not had my cam, except the day i had a cam in his cell (That explains the picture quality) but came out good anyway.

It reached near the elevator on the first floor, the translator of the group "meño" told if we can take a picture with him, and he said "OK".

I told him thanks, and good wave said in English "anything" and already we left, and others in the film arrived at the same location to take the pic too.

Bn is simple, then later agreed, then left him go, and will put the companion to the video store.

Look the hair !!!!!!

Hair is pretty cool. They should've made it more Future Gohan with a huge bang coming down in the middle. That would've been cool.

It has some nice hight there but needs some spikeage happening and teasing on the sides.

at the very least they should have given him bangs. the way they did his hair makes him look like he has a fivehead.

His hair looks different every time I see him off set. I really just want to know what it will look like on film.. is that so much to ask for??? :(

Hmmm...Maybe he's the perfect actor for Goku. :D His hair style keeps looking different in every pic.

Wooowwww... he looks like goku.... and why are people sayin that it doesn't look like goku? He is off set ....... that makes no sense... his hair is the right length!!!!!

This is why they are actors. Their real-life personality has no connection to their portrayal of a character.
