The Official Goku/Justin Chatwin Thread

Regarding people saying Goku isn't acting like Goku:

You're ignoring other things that show that his personality is still intact. The report of him being more interested in food than Chi-Chi, photo of him eating a drumstick atop Bulma's bike, the new photo we just got of him smiling with that huge amount of luggage on his back, and the interviews with Justin Chatwin from countless Japanese magazines that have him describe Goku as happy-go-lucky, and etc.

I will always stand by that a teaser trailer is not going to show you the whole movie. It's meant to excite people, and I guess Fox thought action scenes would excite people.

Finally, someone who writes a well thought out post! I totally agree, all this negativity is misplaced, and I think Chatwin is going to rock as Goku.

I dont disagree with you, I think Chatwin may do well as Goku, although he wasn't my first choice for Goku. I think as far as the negative comments, some are valid and then again some are just flat out dumb. With Goku's gi, I feel like if a design was consistent throughout a series, why change it for the movie? This can be excused for X-Men and Fantastic Four because of the fact that their costumes always changed. But in DB, their clothes always stayed the same. Im hoping that once we see more of Goku in action, it wont look that bad.

I think he will be a Goku that grows on you by the end of the movie.

No one is ignoring them. A couple of pictures of him eating and smiling means he's Goku? Sorry, but it doesn't work that way.

Perhaps. But then again, you must remember something... Outside of comedies, when has a character been shown to be happy-go-lucky in a trailer for an action movie? Since the movie's billed as an action flick (as opposed to action-comedy), of course they're going to cut it around the more serious, action/plot-centric scenes.

I really like what they did with Goku's Gi and hair. i like his Gi better than the Anime's. and i love how they tried to stick to the anime's hair as close as possible without looking to ridiculous.

can't agree more with you
well people are hating this movie
i totally suport it
people dont know that dragonball z cant 100% be adapted to a movie
but they must be graithfull with the things they get in the movie
i waited for this movie since i was a kid seeing dragonball
know one cant take my happiness when i am watching this movie:D:D

I completely agree, nearly any adaptation has changes done when it becomes a film, so anyone saying they expected it to be 100% like the manga expected way too much.

Understandable, but I was not looking for it to be a carbon copy of the show. Also, in adaptations, yes things are changed for example, Spider-Man. While some story elements were changed in order to progress the film in a decent pace, they didn't take away from the character. Spider-Man's costume looked exactly like the comic book version, the only difference is it had a few cosmetic changes to the webbing, and the material used gave it a more authentic look and less of a pajama look. As far as Goku's gi, I wouldnt have minded the pants being made out of the same material as the upper portion, not saying his gi looks bad overall, just figured it would look better being one solid color. Any way you cut, i still intend to watch the film

Agreed.

ok let's reverse that statement..

the simple 3 lines "cool" "I'm not ready for this" "We'll go, but we go together" means he's NOT Goku?

Based on what? One trailer? How about waiting until seeing the movie before saying he sucks or isn't Goku? If you ask me, he has the look, the right physique, and has always had the right attitude about approaching the role. Not snapping at you, but give the guy a chance.

Based on everything we've seen so far pretty much. I will give him a chance, but right now I'm just not seeing what's so special about him.

It's not like everyone is saying he's going to have a performance like the guy in your avvy, but we're just saying we think he'll do a pretty good job. My one fear is that there may be some lines that are intended to be funny, but come out lame or poorly delivered. Hopefully that fear doesn't come to pass.

I know what you mean, but some here act like he can't fail. They question you and ask who you would have chosen. What does it matter really? He's already been cast, so that's irrelevant at this point. He has the look and physique down pat. I'll admit that. I just don't think this guy is ready for such a big role to be honest. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but at this point I'm not very optimistic.

It's called damage limitation. Spin a negative into a positive.

So far, I still dont see Chatwin as Goku nor do I see the movie version of Bulma as Bulma. But the spin merchants on here seem to be doing a good job.

Pretty much. I agree with you, but others will just say you shouldn't expect a 100% adaptation. It would look stupid. :whatever:

How is Emmy not exactly like Bulma, minus hair color? God you haters spin stuff positive into negative as much as we spin negative into positive.

So far I'm not seeing her wacky but argumentative personality or her seemingly cowardly actions. These are kind things that made me laugh at her but liked the character at the same time.

So far I'm seeing Lara Croft, Angelina Jolie from Wanted and Kate Beckinsdale from Underworld. These women can kick butt on their own, they dont need men to save them, which is the vibe I'm getting from Emmy.

I hate this choice
Why is Goku a student ???
Goku is uncivilized, he doesnt know what is a TV, a coffee, electricity ... nothing!
It really s****ck
SonGoku looks more asian, he doesnt look like american, in DB we dont say hes an alien because we dont know hes so in DB. this movie looks more Smallville :hehe:
