Cruise should be Maxwell Lord, not Hal, who deserves to be a major player in the DCEU for the next decade plus. Cruise as Hal isn’t terrible, but what it represents is. Tom Cruise isn’t gonna be playing Hal Jordan when he’s 60+, even with as crazy as he seems.

I've bought into a lot of **** over the years that turned out to be nothing close to reality and even I'm not buying that Cruise will play Hal.

I'm probably one of the few people who doesn't really have an issue with Hal being older than John, since that was the case in the comics before Geoff Johns retconned it.

I've been all for a younger John, I think it may add another layer to his character. Instead of being the sure minded, distinguished soldier who's been through it all, we can get a young guy who is sure minded but also has to prove to himself and the corpse that he is rock solid and can become a master at what he does.

I'm up for an older Hal. Just not "will be 60 in four years" older.

Personally, I'm shooting for Bradley Cooper. If Josh Brolin can be Thanos and Cable, Cooper can be Rocket and Hal.

Yeah, Hal’s age in relation to Stewart was never something that even crossed my mind as being an issue.

35-40ish is definitely the sweet spot they should aim for if veteran Hal is the goal.

The thing about Cruise is he could pass for 40ish and get away with it.

I hope to hell you guys aren't talking about Tom Cruise (I haven't read the entire thread - sorry) but Tom Cruise in the DCEU, or even the MCU would be a disaster.

He's only been discussed because of Christopher McQuarrie being linked to GLC, nothing more than that.

I'd be down.

Regarding his age, given the nature of the GL mythos and all the ring bearers, I could be convinced that just one or two outings with Hal is enough, and I'd be down with him turning into Parallax. The sequel would be my preference (ala Dent's fall in TDK), but the first movie would be a hell of a twist (Sinestro being the red herring) and really cement the theme of the power and threat of 'fear' in the GL mythos.

But anyways, McQuarrie would be the big get. He shoots such thrilling action. What a delight it would be to see action scenes with constructs that are tense and impactful.

If McQuarrie comes we take whatever comes with that. That is the law. ;)

Break the monotony of convention. Have an older looking yet younger actor play John opposite the "Cruise-like" Hal. Someone like Omari Hardwick.

I'd be totally down with Cruise as Jordan. I know there are fans who are against it but I think Cruise and McQuarrie could make a kick butt GLC film , assuming WB stays out of their way and doesn't mandate and meddle .

As far as actors go, I'd actually look at Michael B Jordan for John Stewart. The guy's got the versatility , charm and talent , and given his acclaimed performances in Fruitvale station, Creed, and Black Panther ,the guy could more than hold his own next to Cruise.

If not him, i'd look at another Black Panther vet in Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya.

I don't mind an older Hal, but I don't think I want cruise. I still would like James Marsden as and Trevante Rhodes. Maybe Ving Rhames as kilawog, and Luke Evans as sinestro.

Sterling K Brown- John Stewart
James Marsden- Hal Jordan

I suspect WB wants a Summer DC film for 2020, my guess is it's either going to be The Flash or Batman depending on which is ready to be greenlit first.

Spring 2021 for GLC could work especially if they shoot it from mid to late 2019 either for February 12th 2021 or April 2nd 2021 since I suspect Fast 10 will be pushed back a year.

If The Flash starts filming this summer, it's likely an early 2020 release (February or April).

April's unlikely as it would mean facing Fast 9, February 2020 could work for The Flash but I wonder where Suicide Squad 2 could go since I peg that for February 2020 since it's shooting later than WW2.

That's not fun. That's a pretty terrible idea. Turning Hal bad to prop up someone else was a bad idea in the comics, and its a bad idea for a movie.

Just have Hal and John as co leads. People will get diversity, and you can do so without taking a dump on the character who has carried the franchise longer than anybody else.

Word. And after seeing some of the reactions towards the rumors on social media, it's really funny to see how some people get triggered by the mere presence of a white man in the movie. These asshats love to talk about diversity and equality, yet are perfectly willing to throw the white guy under the bus, because god forbid the black guy has to share screen time with him. Stay woke twitter.

Perhaps that's the whole idea behind making Jordan older. They could deliberately want to give him a short shelf life so they could eliminate him from the whole picture faster. I could very well be wrong of course.

Hal, John and Jessica is all I need, and likely all that's needed for the DCEU GL "franchise". John and Jessica are my favorite GL's and well Hal has his fans so he has to be there...I'm cool with that... Which likely means I'll never get it :o

I actually think if any other Lantern has the biggest chance to show up after the aforementioned two, it's definitely Jessica. I'm pretty sure they would either be willing to skip Guy and Kyle totally, or leave them for later. The one thing that can potentially work against not only Jessica but any other additional Lantern is the fact that they will be rookies. After John is expected to be the rookie in GLC, to suddenly introduce yet another rookie in the next movie would feel very repetitive, at least for me. Unless John is the one who plays the mentor by that time and Hal is retired or dead or evil, or whatever.

Concerning Earthier Lanterns; if this film is to feature some more established Lanterns (similarly to how Batman is more of a veteran) then where exactly were they when Zod and Steppenwolf were planning on destroying the planet?

You can forgive the likes of Enchantress; as far as I'm aware, that entire sequence was only over the course of a day or three, whereas the Zod stuff, and certainly the Steppenwolf scenes would have had to take longer.

If there is a veteran Hal out there, doesn't he concern himself with Earth at the minute? Considering how powered the Lantern Corps are too, I wonder who's going to be overpowered when a Lantern meets our Kryptonian. Superman was certainly overly powered in JL - nobody else could even touch him!

I think it (would help) that she'd be another female too; the current JL is composed mostly of male characters, and I had hoped we'd see Hawkgirl in time too (to even out the male-female ratio a little) but I was only expecting a Hal or John to come bearing Green. If it's Jessica, that'll make a nice change.

Yeah those two are perfect casting! I hope it happens! Now who should play Sinestro?

I don’t see Kyle popping up in a GL movie, but I’d love to be wrong. I think John is going to take on a lot of his characteristics. Guy is also kind of unlikely for the first movie, even though I’d like to see him. I think Jessica is the most likely outside of John and Hal. Mostly because she has found success outside of the comics in the massively successful DC Super Hero Girls line. She provides more diversity than Guy or Kyle, and with today’s movie culture, diversity is paramount.

I think one of the biggest mistakes they could make here would be to go for a CGI villain. What we really need is a tangible, well-developed character to be our villain. That’s why either Sinestro or Hal/Parallax should be our big bad.

For Sinestro...Hugh Jackman would be dream pick. Mads Mikkelsen would be awesome too

I agree that Kyle is unlikely. He's like the Tim Drake of the GL franchise. But I think Guy has a high chance of appearing. He's comedic gold, unique, and benching him would be a huge waste of potential, even if he's just a minor character.

I'd save Jess and Baz for a threequel or another trilogy down the line, ala Rey and Finn, should the franchise make it to that point.
