The Official Green Lantern Set Pic Thread

My friend said we were getting some Green Lantern footage before some movie in extra footage. True?

sometimes my 'sarcasm' sense doesn't tingle...but this is one of the rare times when it's actually working.

lol... i hoped that atleast somone would realize i was being sarcastic and not for real. it amazes me how many people can't take a joke at all.

I hope this is true. Hope it's the same what they did with IM2. Or was that ET?

The Reynolds pic in the mo-cap suit clearly seems to confirm that the costume will be entirely CGI, even though it could be for specific scenes. I´m pretty curious to see how it will turn out.

yea its going to be interesting to see how the whole motion capture/cgi deal is going to work for the costume. I hope the sony guys are on their A game and give us a good costume cause with the right stuff the whole cgi suit can be an interesting angle to go with. Or it can totally fall to crap. But i am trying to think of the first option lol.

The one thing we are gauranteed to see not in CGI:

The mask ;)

yea i am sure that isnt going to be cgi, i wonder though to keep up with matching cgi stuff. if his mask is made out of motion capture material so it tracks his face u know?

Maybe.

But I'm hopeful we'll see a set shot soon with him in the mocap suit with the mask on is face.

he was outside for fresh air and streching hes legs.he didnt put down hes suit for some minutes.

why would he have the mask on while he is outside on fresh air?

dnno1 its not the same.

the markers on the suit are the same. Sony obvious saw in the behind the scenes for POTC2 what kind of suits they used and they realized that its better .and they were on the siggraph presentation

the software for calculating is still different becausue its custom software developed by ILM.

and i was writting how costly it was going to be. never did i say that its costs millions to motion capture a human body in 2010. i would have to be the dumbest idiot to writte it. and i didnt.

it will cost millions to RENDER. read it again mr dnno1. it will cost a lot of money to render a realistic CGI suit that matches the enviorment and lighting and bounce light.

real time? i never saw or read ILM previewing a realtime motion captured body on an live action set with the imo-cap technology. i guess you did?

ILM uses a third party by the name of Vicon Motion Systems software to do their motion capture rendering. Sony Pictures Imageworks uses their own tradmarked process, Imagemotion to do their work, which is just as good. Just so that you know, high end video game manufactures spend about $20-30 million on average to produce video games using CGI motion capture technology. If they were that cost prohibitive, I seriously doubt that they would even consider using it. Oh, by the way, here is motion capture specialist, Mike Sanders from ILM, saying that it save them money. Unless you can show some real numbers refuting this you stand corrected.

I think they will use CGI to make a GREEN LANTERN suit with ION's looking afterall:

Same that be at same time TRANSLUCENT and REFLECTIVE...

Easy. When he's FILMING. Not when he's out for fresh air.

I am not sure if his mask is not going to be CGI as well. He was wearing sunglasses in tha picture, so it is hard to tell if there were optical location markers around his eyes because of them.

I have said before that I think they will go with either a cgi mask or do an actual mask but digitally enhance it so it show more. in other words, the mask will crease/move when he makes frowns and/or makes other eye/facial expressions like it does in the comics. Atleast I hope they will go that route... it's about time that somebody makes a suit & mask for one of our superheroes that does the exact same thing it does in the comics.

yea i rather it not be a cgi mask would be silly, i rather it be a motion capture deal/real mask and highlighted with cgi effects to match the suit.

It would be cool to see the mask work like the ones in The Incredibles were it looked like they were painted on character's faces.

Hopefully it won't look cartoony in live action.

the mask can be done like in the Incredibles.

Rick Baker or the Stan Winston studio. they can make it work.

Incredibles was ALL CGI. A CGI mask would obviously look good on a CGI person, but this is filmed in live action.

Why is everyone making such a big deal about the mask? It can't be that hard to make a good looking mask... CGI doesn't have to be used for everything.

It should keep the same theme as the costume since they are both CGI generated. I would only use a traditional mask if if a CGI couldn't produce one and from what we have seen from films like POTC-2, 3, and Avatar, that should be no problem.
