I very seldom, give a movie a 10 out of 10. It is a practice that is very over done on these boards. 10 out of 10, to me, implies perfection within the genre...Batman Begins did not achieve this, Spider-Man did not achieve this. Superman The Movie (for all the praise it recieves) did not achieve this. Iron Man is the first comic book movie, EVER that can claim perfection. This movie was everything a comic book movie ought to be. It had amazing action, great CGI, the characters were well written, the romance was very well done (which is something that cannot often be said about a comic movie). It had everything a comic movie needs, a great cast, a good ammount of humor, top notch action, and a good story. Easily the best comic movie I have ever seen. Plus the post-credit scene alone was worth the price of admission.

10 out of 10.

word.

I just got back from watching the movie not too long ago and it really rocked!! I gave it a rating of 10. There were just so many things this movie got very right. It hit all the right notes with me. I was 100% satisfied. The battle between Ironman and Iron Monger was especially riveting. I was on the edge of my seat as they both tore into each other quite literally. I don't know what else to type since I'm still buzzing. Everyone did a really great job.

P.S. I hope we see Ezekiel Stane in the future and especially seeing him take up the mantle of Iron Monger. Considering what happens to Obadiah (You all know what I'm talking about guys.) he has the grounds for constructing his own suit for seeking revenge against Tony Stark.

My two friends and I were the only ones left in the theatre for the scene after the credits. It is easily one of the best comic book movies ever made, and I can't wait for a sequel.

The two thinks that really made me geek were:

1. The scene after the credits
2. When Jim Rhodes says "Next time" when looking at the Mark II armor.

I just saw it. Everyones gonna hate me for saying this, but i actually didnt like it. I just thought it was all over the place. and the fighting could have been better. I have hope for the sequal though

Nah, I thought the movie had a slow pace to it. It just did'nt keep me interested in him at all. I think they should of done a few more battle with IM. Maybe a few more Iron Mongers or whatever or maybe a few defeat some more bad guys...
It just did'nt click for me for some reason,Downy jr. was okay as starks maybe it was all the one-liners which seemed to be the whole movie...
Might be a better DVD movie for me,just not to knock it to bad I was tired as heck when I went to see it....

Thats fine, and you are more than entitled to that opinion, but I cannot help but notice where the majority of your posts are from. I am not saying this is your intention, but never-the-less, I am going to say this now, before it happens, through you, someone else, or Iron Man board posters, because it is bound to happen. This thread, nor this forum is to turn into a Batman vs Iron Man fans brawling ground. The Hype will have a zero tolerance policy towards this. Everyone should consider this a pre-emptive warning.

If this is what the NEW Marvel Studios (film company) can produce, then major props. We have many great films to look forward to!!! Absolutely the best film!!! Congratulations to the cast (truly solid acting from everyone), the Director (Jon, your vision was on point) and to Marvel (for finally realizing that in order to make a great comic book movie, you need to actually use the source material and expand on it).

Yeah. Who can forget the great Spider-Man/Superman fan wars of 2004, when Roger Ebert declared SM2 "The best comic movie i have ever seen!"...:woot:

Honestly though; i think we are slowly becoming a forum composed of fans of ALL comic movies (provided they are done with respect) as opposed to sole franchises. I know I'M just as excited about TDK and Hulk as i was for Iron Man...i dont anticipate too many problems.

Saw it around two hours ago. I gave it an 8.

Gwen and Robert were great.

Only bad parts were the corny ending fight dialogue. The quick speed that the Iron Monger was made in(enhancements included). And the terrorist having the cave under watch but not noticing the giant armor and no missile.

Just got home from the movie.

It was *very* good, imo. I enjoyed it a lot. Robert Downey Jr. nailed his role as Tony Stark, and
I can't wait to see Terrence Howard as War Machine in the inevitable sequel.

oh and.....

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really really liked it. So for that, I give it a 10. The little comic nods through out were nice and that after credits scene was just superb. Seeing the Mark III fight for the first time was just stunning to see as well. Ever since the beginning, before the movie really got off the ground, I was anticipating seeing Iron Man in his red and gold armor just walk around. To me, that made it real and feel like he could exist. It wasn't all the flying and shooting rockets, which were still nice, too.

I hope you're right Cap'n. You and I have been on these boards along time and seen many-a-wars and I have never gotten a single one of them. Just enjoy all comic movies, why limit yourself to one dish, after all, when you can have the buffet.

And I also think the audience gets the point that those missiles were from "starch industries". They didnt need to put it on everything

A solid three stars for Iron Man but not on the level of X2, Spider-Man 2, Hulk, Superman The Movie and Batman Begins.

My few gripes come from the fact that the script, clearly, wasn't up to snuff or Downey wouldn't have had to improv 70% of the film. Granted, he delivers like no other but you can easily tell that most of the great stuff came from improv. That's got to be changed in the next script. By the way, the dialogue durint the end fight for all the principal characters was absolutely atrocious, just terrible. I felt bad for Gwenyth.

Second, the two trailers somewhat destroyed all my enjoyment because every single great moment or dialogue is in those trailers. It sold the film in a great way but they gave away all of their best lines.

Third, the score sucked. Plain and simple. For superheroes, they need great scores. It was just terrible here.

Fourth, Stark's journey isn't as profound as say Bruce Wayne's journey in Batman Begins. The reason I bring that film up is because the structure of thisilm and how it's executed is clearly ripped from that film. Nothing wrong with it but Stark's change didn't quite grab me, eventhough it had the best potential to grab me more than Wayne's story in Batman Begins.

Fifth, Winston's practical effects and ILM's work is seamless but the action sequences aren't nearly as memorable. The second sequence (return to the Middle East and the aerial dogfight) is easily the best action sequence. But again, the sequences weren't as awe-inspiring as the sequences in Transformers, eventhough I will admit that the cinematography is a bit better in the action sequences in Iron Man than Transformers.

Given all of that ( I know), it's still a much, much better start to the franchise than X-Men was (which I love greatly) and the first Spider-Man (which I loathe greatly).

The sequels will be fantastic, I have no doubt and I'm ready for more.

The suit and the execution of how it's built are the best bits.

As an aside, the Dark Knight trailer and the Indy 4 trailer kicked all kinds of a$$ in the DLP screening. Spectacular stuff, there.

Marvel and Jon F. should be proud of Iron Man, but they can make improvements.

IRON MAN did not only lived up too all the Hype (brought about by the Trailers, Tv spots, etc..) but it also exceeded and surpassed my expectations . As a comic Book Fanboy I was extremely happy by the fact that this movie wasn't just the typical Summer Blockbuster Superhero movie . (Where The Director basically just makes an action movie to satisfy the Guys who just want to see mindless violence , and add a crappy love story between the Hero & the main Love Interest to get the girls some what intrested .)

While this movie has those elements in them . Director: Jon Favreau focused more on telling a character based driving story that would not only appeal to the comic book fanboys (such as myself) & fangirls , but to the General audience as well . He remained true to the original source material that Stan Lee & Larry Lieber created in comic book "Tales of Suspense" #39 (March 1963) In Which IRON MAN made his official Debut . The origin story was very well done Just like Christopher Nolan did in (June 17 , 2005) with "BATMAN BEGINS".

(The preformenace review)

[Tony Stark/IRON MAN - Robert Downey Jr.] I was on board The Downey Jr. bandwagon from since the moment I heared he was official casted @ Comic-Con Last Summer . I thought he was prefect choice . His preformence as IRON MAN was dead on target he is true to The character of IRON MAN. As Tony Stark he was nailed a bulleye . We got in very begining the selfish rich playboy , Then The Lost Boy trying to find a purpose , To finally A Man on a Mission to protect the innocent and fight against injustice . Downey also brought to the table The comedic side of Stark/Iron Man's Personality as well as the charm . I can't wait to see this explored even further in the sequel .

[Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger-Jeff Bridges] Was Incredible in this movie, He truly was menacing without going over the top. Originally I was kinda of worried that Iron Monger was chosen as The Villain in the origin movie . Instead of Iron Man's Arch-Nemesis The Mandarin . But After hearing Bridges was casted as Stane, I started to warmed up to the idea that this could work if done right . It wasn't until I saw the trailer when you saw a very short preview of The Iron Monger suit . That I got really excited . The finale showdown between Man vs. Monger was basically Robocop 2 - Robocop vs. Robocain match up. It was very good old fashion smackdown .

[Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts ] was good as the loving assistant

[Terrence Howard as James Rhodes] was super, I can't wait to see him as WAR MACHINE in the sequel . I'm glad they mabe a nod to it in the film . "Next Time Baby"

As for Cameos

1. Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan - I love it, hope to see more of him as an active member in the sequel .

2. [Stan The Man Lee - Mistaken by Stark as Hugh M. Hefner ] This is by far his best Cameo appearence in marvel movies .

3. Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Badass Cameo

I loved that Jarvis isn't a human butler making him a cheap Alfred rip-off character instead Jarvis . It's kind of a nod to the H.O.M.E.R. A.I. program that Stark had in the 90's animated series .

The Armor suit (Mark I, Mark II, & Mark III) - The Armor suits were amazing and very well constructed . I like sleekness look of The Mark III . As well as the displayed CGI of the weapons system .

A++++++++

10/10

I can't wait for the upcoming Sequel .

I skipped all the pages to post my review so here goes:

First of all I'm not a fan of Iron Man, I'm only familiar because of his tie-in to the Marvel Universe and of course the various animated series based upon him. The movie was better than I expected it was way better than The Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider films in that the Iron Man is a film that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, the action is good so much that I hardly noticed when it's real and when it was CGI.

Robert Downey gave a good performance and he makes you believe he's Tony Stark/Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow who I don't find really sexy looked pretty fine especially in scenes where she was running in high heels.

The ending battle scenes could've been better choreographed, it reminded me a bit of Robocop 2 where Robo fights Kane, I mean how many times have we seen where the hero gets thrown against the wall or tossed onto a bus, that's pretty much in every superhero movie.

I didn't stay until the final credits rolled until I read on Wikipedia that
Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury made his cameo
.

Overall a fun start for the summer and I give it 4/5 stars, it could've been 5 but I hate it when movie studios force rock music down our throats such as placing Black Sabbath's Iron Man song at the end.

I give it a 9, maybe 8.5. It was great, but the final "battle" sequence was a let down. There probably could have been more action, but overall it felt balanced minus the end. I do feel however that the marketing for this film revealed too much; too many clips and what not online. It sort of diminished my sense of surprise as most of the major things were shown before the film was even out. This sort of reminds me of SM3, way too much revealed before the film itself, anyone else feel that way? Then again, being the hypster I am and knowing about this, I should have steered clear of preview clips. That aside, the acting was fine, humor was enough, and visuals were great. Personally, I feel its a really solid setup/origin film, but otherwise I didn't find it overly spectacular.

Great movie. Gave it a 9. I admit I wish there was at least one more scene with the Mark III armor, but I get that it's an origin movie. I thought the pacing was well done, and the music didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. The greatest part was that for once, the "love interest" in this movie wasn't just a damsel in distress, even though it kind of looked like it might have gone that way.

SWEET!

Thought it was AMAZING! Best Superhero movie since Batman Begins!

I'm literally still on a high even after seeing it 2 hours ago. Plan on seeing it again tomorrow.
