The Official Jigsaw thread

50 million is plenty considering they're not wasting money on Travolta. Hell 40-45 might work. From what I understand there's lots of gunplay in this film so it should cost more than the 1st.

It's gotta be 2008. They start filming within 30 days and it's not longer than a 90 day shoot...no way. So they'll be wrapped up before the end of 2007 most likely. It's not a big budget CGI enhanced flick so post production isnt' gonna be 8 months. So how can it not be 2008 unless there's no room on the sched for it?

I would say 08 is the release date aswell.

Budget is probably $25 million tops and shooting will last at the most 40 days. Unless they get some A-lister I believe it will be shot ala Underworld, Crank or Shoot 'Em Up good but cheap. This way even if it doesn't make as much as the first they still profit, especially on dvd. If it's a solid action flick with the right marketing and released on the right weekend (no Kill Bill ) I could see this movie debuting at no. 1 with a 18 to 22 million opening, closing at 55-60 million. It could also go the other way if Lionsgate drops the ball again. Hopefully Marvel and Lionsgate can learn from their mistakes and deliver the goods this time!:unishr:

Lions Gate has been putting out some of the best movies out there in the last year or so. They are definately one of the headliners in distribution now.

They know how to make a movie on the cheap and make a profit from it. Remember it wasn't Lionsgate who made the Punisher. It was Artisan and then LGF bought Artisan out before the movie was released.

That's less than the 1st total budget? You mean shooting budget? Otherwise that would suck. 25 million total would not be enough.

getting back to the topic of Jigsaw. I was thinking today and I think Dominic Purcell would make a good Jiggy. He's probably not available because of his 'prison break' shooting schedule but i think he'd do well. Chicks dig him, and he's intimidating. He could make for a formidable match to Ray's Punisher.

Personally I don't want Jigsaw to look like a meathead like a lot of the actors that've been suggested. I'd rather someone who's not a tank; someone like Keaton.

I would not be opposed to Keaton... Personally I'd like to see less of a meat head as well... however I will be open to waiting until I actually see the film to pass judgment if they cast someone I don't agree with.

While I agree with you, I've actually heard whispers the budget will be around 20-30 million again.... I mean it's lionsgate anything much higher than that would be among the HIGHEST they've ever DIRECTLY financed. I would assume it's shooting budget NOT total - since rarely ever is marketing included in that or even decided that early on in pre-production. I'm sure they have a target for the marketing budget but won't make final decisions until they've seen some cuts of the film and got opinions.

When I say shooting budget I'm excluding salaries. I'm only talking about the cost of shooting aside from talent's pay. 1st Punisher was 17 mill shooting budget, and 33 million production budget.

Trio paged for ‘Punisher’ rolesBy Borys Kit and Carolyn Giardina

Sept 25, 2007

Dominic West, Doug Hutchison and Wayne Knight will strap on the bulletproof vests for Lionsgate and Marvel Studios’ “Punisher: War Zone,” the actioner based on the Marvel Comics character being directed by Lexi Alexander.

Ray Stevenson already is on board to portray the Marvel vigilante.

West is in negotiations to play the Punisher’s archenemy known as Jigsaw, a mob assassin whose face was torn to shreds and stitched back together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Hutchison has taken on the role of LBJ aka Looney Bin Jim, a chemically unbalanced lunatic who considers the world his own private killing field and goes on a maniacal rampage.

Knight is in negotiations to play Microchip, the Punisher’s armorer and confident — the man who supplies him with his stockpile of weapons and one of the few people who knows the Punisher’s true identity.

Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel’s Kevin Feige are producing, and Avi Arad is executive producing. Shooting is scheduled to begin in October in Montreal.

West starred on HBO’s “The Wire” and most recently was seen in “300.” He is repped by Endeavor and Tavistock Wood Management.

Hutchison recently wrapped production on the Lionsgate horror film “The Burrowers” as well as the indie feature “Moola.” He is repped by APA and 9 Yards/Roklin Management.

Knight, who is best known for playing Newman on NBC’s “Seinfeld,” next will be seen in the indie feature “Throwing Stars.” He is repped by APA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Right I'm hearing this time 20 million - 30 million max for the shooting budget, not total budget.

Way the hell better than Patty and I'm loving "Newman" as Microchip. Funny as hell.

He still has the same personality though which is kind of perfect for that role IMO>
