The Official Kevin Durand/Blob Discussion Thread

maybe...
I was thinking either something like that, or that possibly in this version, he is turned into the blob as a result of one of Stryker's experiments

I wonder then what's so important about "Barnell", what sets him apart from other characters that he gets to play "that" role...whatever role that might be?

outside of his bird like looks, his mutation, was hollowed bones (which made him very light) allowing him to practically glide on air (in extreme cases even short distance flight), as well as enhanced agility...

Yea if you can't tell I was never a fan of Morrison's run the New X-men! hehe

Careful, you might get attacked if you insult that crackhead Morrison. Some people think he was a genius.
Not me though.

If that's the case it might give some more depth to the character.

I didn't follow "Barnell"s inclusion in the Exiles and his subsequent return to the regular books but didn't he turn into his human form AFTER he was depowered? Meaning in his "human" state he wouldn't have any of his powers, barring him the use of his "hollowed bones, as well as enhanced agility"? In that vain, Dominic Monaghan, taking the form of an unaltered Barnell would not have Beak's hollowed bones.

Of course the movie is free to make up its own continuity but what I'm worried about is that they decided against putting prosthetics on the character after casting "big movie star" Dominic Monaghan! Again prompting me to ask why Beak when they could've included a higher-profile character.

Then again I don't know what role exactly he plays...

haha i think us Morrison "bashers" can come out of the woodwork! It's safe now! :D

Well, I think they include the less-known low-profile characters into the movies so that they can say that they did and also there's a little bit more freedom if there needs to be changes made to the character for whatever reason.

I think in X1 and X2, they got it right (i.e., Pyro didn't have an accent, but no one really cared), but in X3, they kinda went a little bit too freely in how they modified a few characters, like Callisto and Psylocke for instance. Those two, IMO, are not considered low-profile characters like Pyro, Beak, or Arclight and I think they should've been taken out of the comics a bit more directly.

Dominic Monaghan plays Bolt, who manipulates energy, and will.i.am has his acting debut as the teleporting Wraith. One face you know but won't recognize is Kevin Durand, who was the evil soldier Keamy on "Lost" last season. He is unrecognizable under piles of makeup as the immovable villain, The Blob (but you'll see him in flashbacks).

Interesting that the Blob's scene in the Congo is pointed out as a flashback! since it's before he's Blobbed out. The whole boxing thing must be in the present, then!

HA! I knew they were gonna pull an "Anne Reynolds" on us and change Dominic's role!

Im not familiar with a Bolt character but a quick google search says that Bolt is essentially Maverick II

Didn't think I could be even MORE indifferent to Dominic's role in this movie. *ugh*:o

umm the movie could take place in the past and he could still have flashbacks...

. . . . Good point.

I guess I was thinking "present" as "the very long time period after he's been adamantium-ized" and the "past" as anything before then.

I shoulda been more specific.

sorry, someone earlier was saying they thought part of the movie would take place after X3 so I thought that's what you were referring to.

Wasn't there an interview with Dominic Monaghan where he mentions the reshoots in Vancouver? I swear in it he mentions that he's Beak still...

I do hope he becomes Beak. I don't know much about the character, but it would be lame to just take a name out of a hat and slap it on a guy with random powers. Feels similar to Callisto in X3.

im guessing that the when the blob punches the tank that could be after he gets suped up by weapon x. if thats a younger thinner blob and being huge isnt his mutation then that is just horribly wrong much like alot of the other changes to the characters like DP. I can understand them not giving him his own gravitational feild but come on. making his powers super strength and then he just lets himself go WTF. The blob is unmoveable, not anymore huh

Blob gaining that extra *ahem* amount of weight could be a special effects feature that this film is throwing in there just for the sake of (supposedly?) moving the field forward.

Much like Magneto moving the Golden Gate bridge, de-aging Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen.

This is also why i think they included the Blob character...Fox, as a Studio, loves to include muscle/fat suits in their movies. Juggernaut, Big Momma (LOL), etc. and now Blob.

I might of mentioned it in one of the other threads, but, I think that maybe he started out fat, and got buff as a result of a weapon x experiment, though, its effects are only temporary, which is why he fattens back up later on, after he stops getting his treatments

'tis a shame we won't see Blob all blobbed out through the whole film. I always got a good visual of Team X in the film with Blob standing amongst em all.

Yup ...new trailer confirms it....Blob wears a friggin' big ass muscle suit and looks ripped as hell as he (looks to be) punching a tank right in the barrell.

LAME!

He's always been really strong. He still looks pretty hefty, though.

Yes, Blob has always been strong...no problem with that or him punching a tank.

But do you know what the Blob's never been?

The f**king Hulk.

And thats exactly what he looks like.

Some info from that Spaced and Confused bloke. He seems geniune, going into detail about a lot of things. I think he is credible, you guys believe what you want.

Blob was at one point going to be CG, but Kevin Durand is a trooper, and was willing to sit through 11 hours of makeup a day to become blob. The costume was sulfur based, and the looks of disgust from the rest of the cast are genuine because he smelled like brimstone. WIll.I.Am and Lieve Schriber would frequently rub his belly between takes "For luck"

Hearing Durand as Blob just made me remember that Blob's comic origin puts his birthplace in Texas. This is the first time I've ever heard Blob (animated or video game otherwise) with a Texan-like accent.

I like it.

I never even knew that, before I heard it & found out why.

Where have we heard the durands blob voice?

*EDIT: Nm I see there are new voice clips on the site
