The Amazing Spider-Man The Official Marc Webb Thread

Okay. Say I have a simplistic logic, but in the end, there was no reason for Sandman to be involved with Uncle Ben in the first place. It reeked of Raimi and Maguire trying to make Sandman bigger than he is.

Just as Neil said, Sandman should be a petty crook nothing more. No signs of redemption.

I agree that the retcon feels tacked, but this particular story had its reasons to make it so, to push Peter for revenge - and then when he was taken by darkness, but then again, who forced the symbiote storyline on Raimi? Rest my case, your honor.

we all know sm3 sucked lol

sandman could not hold a film by himself and neither could venom it was worse putting them together

Venom has more chance of holding one than Sandman and I say this is as a huge huge huge hater of the Venom symbiote in all it's forms.

Yeah, I don't like Venom that much but I think he could hold a film. Sandman is one of my favorite Spidey villains but even I feel he would work better as a second support villain in a film.

The venom story was more interesting then sandman's in spider-man 3 in my opinion. Sandman was just...I have to save my girl so I'll rob banks, and making him kill Ben Parker kind of makes you roll your eyes.
Venom, wasn't used to the full potential one bit, because Sam Raimi hates venom, but I found the Symbiote and Brook more interesting and entertaining then the depressing Flint Marko. He didn't want any of this? WHAT? The only reason he was destroying that part of New York City was to KILL spider-man! It had nothing to do with his daughter, he just wanted Revenge... So he helps Venom (this demon thing that he knows nothing about) to kidnap a girl and fight off all the cops in NYC just for a chance to kill spider-man... It just doesn't add up. With Brook, he just wanted to kill Parker for screwing up his life, but they definitely should have focused more on that, because you really didn't feel his pain the extent you should have.
And about the dance sequence, it was just awkward.... strangely awkward... really frickin awkward. Dancing should make you feel good, not awkward.

but some fans dont see it that way venom character wise is very weak one of the reasons sam does'nt like him

sure he is cool looking

Spider-man 3 was just a big mess of to many stories and not enough explanation, I think we can all agree on that.

Venom might not be the deepest character and his motivations are questionable, but hey, he isn't exactly mentaly stable. But he could still carry a movie as a psychotic stalker with superpowers. And he is not just any stalker, he knows all of Spider-Man's little secrets thanks to the symbiote and makes sure to turn Peter's life into a living hell, by demonstrating that none of his loved ones are save from him.

$80 million range
cast of relative unknowns
center on a high school kid
villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst

Uh oh. My spider sense is tingling. Whenever you see studios talking like this, chances are good that the movie will blow (ex. this is pretty much the same thing that Fox said about Dragon Ball Evolution). I hope this isn't the case.

There's a difference...dragon ball z had no hope of being good anyway....and this is something that most people actually like....spider-man

People love Dragon Ball. In the US it might not be as popular, but worldwide, I'll bet anyday on Dragon Ball over most superheroes, in terms of popularity.

He has a good point. Fox gave DB:E a small budget (U$S50 million probably, but a lot spent on Mexico), fans freaked out, and the movie turned out cheap as hell

Let's not forget it's Fox, who've been cheap for many years, always interfered into the director's decisions and rarely ever had faith in their movies. Sony isn't there yet, they still have a respectable reputation compared to Fox.

No where in that article does it say that the fighting will take a back seat in the movie, in the comic books yes, doesn't mean it'll be that way in the movie. Now I know we all want tons of action and seeing Peter Parker as Spider-Man most of the time but they have an excuse for the first one. It's his origin story. Now for the sequels they have no excuse. It sounds like it's going to be grounded like the first X-Men movie which had a budget of like what 75 million. Now I know that's not the Spider-Man film we're all picturing in our head but X-Men was a damn good film even with that low budget.

If you think about it X2 didnt have much action in it either aside from the mansion invasion and then in the third act. But the characterization for the characters was great. I think thats what we may end up getting here, if nothing else Webb's characterization should be good.

I agree, and when the action happened it kicked ass and we cared for the characters. Why? Cause it focused on character and story first. The same reason for why Star Trek is so great. It didn't have much action at all. Budget isn't everything. :word: And X-Men 1 and 2 were Fox films lol. Now Sony is no where near the level of Fox. Well that hasn't happened yet and hopefully it won't. As low as this is for Sony it is also smart and they are obviously looking for talent first and foremost, cheap talent, but talent none the less.

It's not about how much action you have, it's about how well the action is done, and how the pacing is. I mean Transformers has some pretty cool action, but TO MUCH way TO MUCH, and now I hate those movie.

I'm worried that Marc Webb might be such a newcomer that Sony will be able to boss him around. Sam Raimi was an established filmmaker who had a lot more clout and had distinct enough vision as a storyteller to carry the film. I'm getting a Tim Story vibe from this whole thing.

X-Men and X2 didn't kick that much ass in the action department... And the action was pretty "grounded". When it came to flying or jumping, it was really far from "ok", IMO. If you can take a Spidey movie with just punches, and the wirework of the first X-Men movie, good for you :cwink:

Or maybe he should have just rewritten the script instead of just plugging Venom in.

Not to mention people act like Venom sucking was the biggest problem with the movie. Like it wasn't Peter dancing like a moron, or his hair cut, or the cookie scene, or MJ getting kidnapped...AGAIN! or Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer or the 100 crying scenes, or the other hundred things Raimi threw in there.

I know, I agree. :word: And the budget doesn't have to be huge in order for that action to be executed successfully or well.

I know, that's what I'm talking about. The action wasn't as great as it could and should have been, but it was still good and not crap. I can take that for a Spider-Man movie if it's good and not crap yes. Now do I just want that? No, definitely not. I don't want just grounded action for an X-Men movie either. I'm just saying that X-Men 1 and 2 are perfect examples of grounded superhero movies, that should be more epic than they are, pulled off well to where they are damn good films. I would rather have a good grounded Spider-Man film than a ****** epic Spider-Man film. Not saying Sam Raimi's were ****** epic Spider-Man films though, just saying.

Idk, X2 has some pretty sweet action! Nightcrawler at the beginning! Wolverine in the Mansion. Cyclopes doing a little hand to hand was cool. Mystique fighting all the men. Wolverine Vs. Lady Deathstrike, many people didn't like this fight, but I though it was fast and intense. I liked it.

I agree. The Nightcrawler scene at the beginning was bad ass to no end lol. :word: I had a geekgasm watching that for the first time ha ha.
