The Amazing Spider-Man The Official Marc Webb Thread

Venom has more chance of holding one than Sandman and I say this is as a huge huge huge hater of the Venom symbiote in all it's forms.

Well, I can dig the notion of the black suit luring Peter into the dark side - it´s very well handled in SSM, BTW -, but I always felt Venom was an overrated character who basically looks good in pin-ups but doesn´t offer much in terms of powers or character, which is why writers kept throwing the character in all sorts of different tangents to make him more interesting. It´s basically an evil twin with a slight twist. In terms of powers, Sandman was always a more interesting character.

venom is so cliché its not true

spidey - venom
iron man - iron monger
wolverine - lady deathstrike
superman - bizzaro

you see where I'm going with this? one note RUBBISH

the bottom line is;

if you have a director who is responsible for the creative vision of the movie i.e. how the movie looks and feels and that vision is a success both critically (RT SM1 90%/RT SM2 94%) and commerically (SM1 840m/SM2 780m) then you leave him the hell alone. he has EARNED the right for creative freedom.

seriously, I don't see what there is to argue about?

lastly sam's originally script was hacked to pieces for a villian I hate with a ****ing PASSION. it wouldn't have been so bad if the script was hacked to pieces for a villian I actually LIKE, like lizard, and what's more lizard being in SM3 would have made a hell of a lot more sense than venom and a lot easier to shoehorn in.

I agree

I don't see where you're going.

you didn't get that from the list? okay...
right, the character is essentially the yang to the hero's ying. the dark opposite. the villian is basically what would happen if the hero went down the 'dark' path. its cliché, trite and and one note. I HATE villians like that.
what's more venom was created in the 90's argubly THE most rubbish era in the history of comics. the clone saga, maximum carnage. *shudder* absolute RUBBISH.

going back to venom, the GA didn't know (or care) who venom was, that lame arse character was put in the movie because for the 'fans'.
anyone who thinks venom was in any way shape or form responsible for SM3' BO is seriously deluded.

LOL Deluded? Are you sure? He's one of the most recognizable Spider-Man villains, his symbol and everything. You underestimate the general audience and the power us fan boys have when it comes to the hype for a movie, especially a comic book movie. :word: You can hate Venom all you want, but he's still one of the most popular Spider-Man and comic book villains. The choice of villains can and has had a heavy effect on the hype and success of comic book movies.

when a box office stretches beyond 400m ww you are entering 'general audience' territory, i.e. the people who don't read comics and know little about the hero let alone the villians he fights. how many people do you think knew iron man before the movie? I took a female friend who didn't have a CLUE who iron man was (IRON MAN FFS!!) so forget the GA knowing about venom. if people think venom is a household, easily recogniseable cahracter, I will say, okay...fine, and leave it there.

Not to be a dick, but shouldn't this be Sabretooth. Not trying to make it a big deal, and you do get the point across either way.

Dude, are you seriously comparing Iron Man to Venom? LOL Then explain how Spider-Man 3 made more than the first two? It sure as hell wasn't cause people were looking forward to New Goblin or Sandman. LOL

I dont get what you are trying to say? venom is more recongiseable to the GA than iron man? because if that's what you ARE saying, well...

Yes, it is, cause he is LOL. Now I agree that Iron Man is a better and more interesting character, but more well known than Venom before the Iron Man movie? No

you have GOT to be joking. how (for pete sake HOW?!) does the GA have a CLUE who venom is. you mean to tell me if you went up to your mum and said who is venom, she could tell you? that's wheter she saw SM3 or not as they don't actually say who venom is.

No of course not LOL. But she would only know who the Joker and Catwoman are for example anyway ha ha. Not every single person in the general audience knows Venom. And he's not quite as known as the Joker obviously. But he still is one of, including the black suit, if not the main, reason as to why Spider-Man 3 had a lot of hype and did as well as it did, period. You really think it would have did as well as it did or had as much hype to it if it was the Vulture along with Sandman? You really aren't giving the power fans have to help spread the hype of Venom and the black suit to the general audience enough credit.

Nobody is denying the character is popular, I´m just entitled to not share or see the reason for that love.

You don't have to love the character. I'm not saying you have to. Not every fan does, but most do and it helped build up hype for the third movie. How can anyone even deny that?

LOL, dude, I didn't say the first two didn't make huge box office. They were both really good movies. But Spider-Man 3 wasn't of good quality like the first two and yet made more than the first two worldwide. Spider-Man 3 didn't make more than the first two cause it was the best one so far, even though quite a few of you here liked it if not loved it more than the first two.

It helped build hype, but the result was unsatisfying even for most Venom fans, much more for those who don´t care for him, and it was too recent to bring him back so soon.

Of course it was unsatisfying lol. Hell, the whole movie, to me at least, was unsatisfying. It shouldn't have made as much as it did, or more than the first two worldwide for that matter, but it did. Why? Besides the fact that it's Spider-Man, why? It couldn't have been the "coolness" of Sandman and New Goblin, or just them anyways. It wasn't John Travolta emo dancing Peter Parker that did, or Peter Parker being a pansy and being a pushover, and the singing and bad acting that did it lol.

i showed you why the third movie was popular. because with the first two movies they made a huge fanbase. and to those fanbase the second movie was the best. so it was obvious that the third movie made so much money .

Ok, to end this, lol all I'm saying is the black suit and Venom is one of the contributing factors to the hype and success of Spider-Man 3, ONE of, not the only one, but one of. :word: If you disagree, fine it's cool. But even though the average joe most likely doesn't read the comics or find out about Venom through a fanboy, there is also the cartoons, especially the 90s cartoon.
