Strong probably is not the person who'd have sprung to mind first for the role, I don't know why however as hes a perfectly legitimate & very good casting imo.

I´m not saying Marc is a bad choice, but in spite of the power rings thing, I think of Sinestro as someone who can handle his own physically against Hal in a fistfight and I get that more from JEH than Strong. Strong is more apt to the elegant evil mastermind kinda villain though.

Seriously? JEH is like, 5 ft 5 and has a wirey physique. Reynolds could swat him away like a fly.

I still get it more from him than Strong. As Rorschach I didn´t notice the height thing much, maybe cuz he wears a hat.

Well I do get what you are saying about Strong. He does seem like a more sophisticated "doesn't get his hands dirty" type of guy.

But I just think that could sorta play into it with his fighting style. You know? Sorta give him a arrogant fighting style where he doesn't seem to be trying and yawning with a attitude of "Is this it, human?" I could picture Strong doing that perfectly.

Maybe.

How come I never heard of this dude until Sherlock Holmes? Now all of a sudden, he's everywhere.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Strong

His done about 20 films in 5 years.

His a good actor. He got popular in the UK after co-starring in a BBC series called 'Our Friends In The North' with Daniel Craig and Christopher Eccleston.
I like that he will be physically imposing to reynolds, but I don't like that he is pretty much a type-cast villain.

He said in an interview that his quite happy to play villains. His already played a Homicidal Spaceship captain, a couple of Gangsters, Dark Ages manipulative lord

If I was an actor I'd LOVE to just play villains. As long as they are different types of villains.

I've seen many actors say they love playing villains because it is more fun.

When does shooting for this start? Because I think Strong starts playing Matai Shang the (surprise!) villain of John Carter Of Mars next week.

I do wonder how they'll handle Sinestro in this film. I watched GL: First Flight, found it thoroughly entertaining, but laughable how everybody found it inconceivable that the RED DEVIL LOOKING GUY WITH AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM NAMED FRIGGIN' SINESTRO could have possibly been a traitor. They would have probably thought Victor Von Doom was a stand up guy too.

Agreed, but Strong also has the arrogant aristocratic presence that I think Sinestro requires and not the dirty gringy presence that Jackie Earle Haley provides.
Spacey was excellent as Lex Luthor. The problem with Luthor lies completely in the script, not with Spacey since Spacey had to play the exact same campy Lex Luthor that Gene Hackman played.

If Spacey was a more serious Lex, it would have been perfect.
The problems with those movies were the scripts. If Charlize Theron is handed a good script that's a blockbuster then I would get what your saying but the blockbuster scripts handed to her have been bad. Not by her fault
I second these posts.

Well, even though I'm starting to feel like Strong is becoming the "go to guy" to play a villain these days, he's truly a great actor and I'd love to see him as Sinestro. And all of those people who were concerned about the height issued (when Haley was the rumored frontrunner) need not worry now... Stong is a big dude.

I don't blame Strong for wanting to play Villians all the time. If I were an Actor I would rather play the Villian than be the hero.

Theres nothing wrong with just playing villains, Gary Oldman's made a good career out of it and he's only now started playing decent guys...

Don´t forget the mustache, and the classy accent.:hehe:

But well, he still had the best track record of the GLs till that point. He was the misguided "I know what´s best for the universe if they let me rule it!" kinda villain.

JEH>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mark Strong

but for Sinestro Strong>>>>>>>>>>>>JEH

Strong is an overall better choice than JEH IMO.

Physically he looks the part much better than JEH of course and he is a good actor. He did a great job in Sherlock IMO.

Wait until he becomes the full fledged evil Sinestro by the end of the film or in a sequel.

Glad to see Campbell debunking JEH as Sinestro, he would have been wrong for the role. Strong is a solid choice.

JEH would have been wrong for the role so I'm glad Campbell has debunked that rumor. Strong is a solid choice.

The script i read doesnt show Sinestro's fall and leaves it for the sequel. I think its the best thing to do. They shouldnt rush it.

they always should save the arch villain for a sequel. Moriarty, Joker, etc.

There should be some kinda foreshadowing though. Maybe show him disagreeing with the Guardians, challenging their authority or something.
