well they did say there's another mass effect game after this and they are working on them back to back if not fully at the same time . I wonder what the other one is about?

Don't know if anyone's pointed it out, but in relation to the thread title, this isn't a new IP. :P

It's a temp name til we find out the full title . ice man will most likely ask a mod to change it as soon as the full name is revealed by Bioware. this was made before details of a new game came out any way on what people wanted(to see) as new game.

So, if it's set during the first trilogy, that would make this a prequel?

they said it's at the same time to a degree so no it won't stand as a prequel. Well to 2 -3 it will be a prequel of sorts. Depends on how you look at it, I guess.

The next Mass Effect might be about you and yours

The next Mass Effect will not revolve around Commander Shepard and crew, according to a BioWare Comic-Con panel. However, Phil Hornshaw of GameFront tweeted that the game's hero will have "something to do" with N7, the military designation for special forces soldiers with the highest levels of proficiency in badassery, which Shepard was a part of before becoming savior of the galaxy.

So if the game isn't about Shepard, who is it about? Andrea Rene of The Escapist snapped some offscreen pics of a customizable hero labeled "your hero," as well as a picture of a new version of the Mako landrover from the original Mass Effect. Interestingly, this Mako was referred to as "your Mako."

Does the "your" imply customization options? Are we playing as ourselves? Unfortunately, such questions won't be answered for awhile, if ever. Hornshaw reports that the BioWare panelists caution that the game is years away, and things can change between now and then.

Idk...after the events of the first 3 games...it's like...what else could this character do that's more interesting than stopping Reapers and Collectors?

But I suppose that would also be the same question if it was set in the far future.

Hey there was a lot happening in the game the shadow broker had a lot happening the too. others must have come a cross his agents and operatives and who knows what a lot of other pirates certain parts of Cerberus were up to. and as they said this is all subject to change and there's that new ip that might possibly be another ME title or not.

"set in the time period of Command Shepard" could also mean directly after the events of ME 3. that would still be in the same period as Shepard.

so, perhaps, the new game with the new protagonist picks up right where ME 3 left off.......

then again.......I've also heard them say this is not to be considered "Mass Effect 4." so.......who knows........

And the lame ending of ME3 claims yet another victim. :down

Setting the game concurrent to ME Trilogy will

1) Leave everyone wanting to see the characters.

That's probably half the reason they decided to set it at the same time. The original trilogy characters are so popular, having them cameo or be part of the new story will be an immediate selling point.

2) Make any story feel underwhelming in comparison to the Reapers.
I disagree. There's no reason they can't craft a story that's just as good, if not better. The galaxy is an enormous place, hundreds if not thousands of massive threats could be occurring at any one time.. And I don't think the stakes necessarily need to be as high as the entire galaxy on the verge of destruction to make it interesting, or get people deeply invested.

Eh, the Reapers were extremely underwhelming by themselves.

Honestly, I would love a smaller-scope Mass Effect game. I don't need to traverse the universe and save existence. A tight , well written story in an isolated part of the galaxy would be just as, if not more, compelling.

There were always rumors of a Citadel cop/detective game and that would be awesome. I come to ME for the great atmosphere and lore, and the dialogue.

God a cop game would be great. Darting between places like Omega and the Citadel and solving clues...

There were some that did say they liked the Mako but were always shouted out to or people said their displeasure for it with out being as nasty to others that did labout it. it was kinda the same with the elevator some did like & others didn't.

That storyline was best in ME1. The appeal of the other 2 games had little to do with the world-ending element of the storyline for me. I don't think ME needs to be on that scale to be amazing.

well that was more like Galaxy ending scheme's. And technically since you find out about it , it sorta was about that, but you dealt with other stuff along the way like your first encounter and hearing about the shadow broker. and doing that job with that lady that used to be a crime lord on the citadel til you told to change get out of that life. or waste her depending on the path you chose to play

First and foremost, BioWare wanted to establish that this next Mass Effect game will be set during the same time period as the first ME trilogy, but will not feature Commander Shepard. The developers didn’t rule out the possibility of running into familiar places, but since this game will focus on exploring a vast universe that’s not necessarily a given.

Apparently this information was incorrect. Not that it might not end up happening anyway mind you, but Bioware didn't say at all when the time frame was occurring.

Nerd Appropiate put out an article with a transcript.

http://www.nerdappropriate.com/2014...charting-a-course-mass-effect-panel-coverage/

Some quotes people might be interested in:

Mass Effect 4, where in the timeline is it? “It’s not called Mass Effect 4, damn it! What I will say is that (long sigh) you’re NOT playing as Shepard and Shepard is not a central part of the story, so you can assume whatever you need to assume from that. We want to give players new places to explore [and] uncharted areas that haven’t been explored before.” – Mike Gamble

Release date is far off by the sounds of it:

“We want to pull back the curtain at some work in progress stuff, but it is work in progress stuff, we are years from saying this is the EXACT game we are making.. Take this with a grain of salt, what you see here you may not see in the final game.” -Mike Gamble

Will we have aliens [and whatnot] on our team again? “Yes, we are definitely having aliens in the next Mass Effect game. We can’t give you exact details on squad-mate composition [as we are still] working on that. The races you know, to some degree, are still present.” – Carl Boulay

“And some new stuff…some new races.” – Mike Gamble

Is the Mako going to be customizable? “In terms of customization, it’s been something we’ve been looking at, sure. We feel as though, if you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the vehicles [that] they should reflect you as a player and customization is one element of that as well.” - Mike Gamble

Is the protagonist strictly human, or can we play as a Turian? “So that is a big one, we haven’t locked down the specifics of that one yet. For sure your main character will be human but in terms of other playable races… we can’t talk about that at this point.” -Mike Gamble

Will we be seeing characters like Aria T’Lok again? “We haven’t decided… well, we’ve decided (but aren’t telling yet). The theme is [that] we want to create new experiences for the player, but we still want to bring in elements of what you know and love about the previous trilogy that might include certain characters and it might not. So guaranteed, either way that we end up going you’re going to see a certain amount of the old with the new.” -Mike Gamble

If you weren't able to attend, Microsoft and BioWare have published full video of their respective San Diego Comic Con panels on Halo: the Master Chief Collection and the next Mass Effect. If you've got 90 minutes spare, you could do worse than perching right here and checking them out - the Halo video's up top with Mass Effect below the break.

If you've been lost in space for the last month and this is the first you've heard of either of these things, let's fill you in. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a remastered compilation of Halos 1-4, and it's coming to Xbox One on November 11. It also includes access to the Ridley Scott live-action Halo: Nightfall series, as well as the Halo 5 multiplayer beta, due to begin in December.

As for the next Mass Effect, details remain scant beyond what you'll see in the video below. The game won't star Commander Shepard but a new hero instead, and a new hero with a new Mako, for that matter. As for platforms, release windows, etc. BioWare producer Mike Gamble says the studio's still "years from being able to say that this is the exact game that we're making," so it sounds like we're way off from any concrete details.

Casey Hudson Leaves BioWare

Casey Hudson, director of the first three Mass Effect games and Knights of the Old Republic, is leaving developer BioWare today. He hasn't revealed exactly what he plans to do next, but says that he's going to take a break and get a fresh
perspective before moving onto a new phase of his life. Casey Hudson began working at BioWare 16 years ago, starting on the original Neverwinter Nights and MDK2. He moved on to become the project director of Knights of the Old Republic, and then led the development team behind the first three Mass Effect games. In a statement on the official BioWare blog, the company says that his “focus on production quality, digital acting technology, and emotionally engaging narrative has made a substantial impact on BioWare and the video game industry as a whole.” Hudson was working on the mysterious new IP that’s currently in the works at BioWare Edmonton, but thankfully, he says he finished laying the groundwork for the project before leaving.

We’ve interviewed Casey countless times over the years, and we can safely say that he’s played a big part in making BioWare games as good as they are. He’ll be missed, and we wish him luck in his future endeavours.

^^
GI's Our Take
Hudson's departure is a loss for BioWare, and for fans of the series that he worked on. However, we're happy to see that the new IP he has been developing is still moving forward. We're excited to see what Hudson does next, and where BioWare goes from here.

Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson leaves BioWare's orbit

Casey Hudson, longtime BioWare employee and executive producer of the Mass Effect series, has departed the company, Studio General Manager Aaryn Flynn revealed on the BioWare Blog. It doesn't sound like Hudson is leaving join another company or, as is becoming increasingly common these days, forming his own studio, as a letter to his colleagues merely mentions the need to "hit the reset button."

"While I feel that the time has come, this is without a doubt the most difficult decision of my career," Hudson wrote. "BioWare is as magical a place today as it was when I started. The projects we are working on are some of the most exciting and prestigious in the world. The talent in our teams is second to none. And the people here are some of my closest friends. I've spent more time with many of you than my own family, and I have enjoyed every day of it."

As Hudson moves on to fulfill his own goals, BioWare is moving forward with Dragon Age: Inquisition, a new Mass Effect game, and consistently teasing us with short videos about super-powered teens. We look forward to learning more about all of the above.
