The Official Mega Man Thread

Now they can start working on getting Mega Man Legends and Mega Man X onto current gen.

As much as I want an X and Legends collection, they should probably work on completing this collection first.

LAME that it is only 1-6. WTH dont they have 7-10 in there?

Yeah, these days any Mega Man stuff should be appreciated. I really feel like Legends and X were fantastic though, I hate that Mega Man is a neglected property.

That'll be released 3 months later as $25 DLC :o

I was interested until I found out that it's just the first 6 games.

The Anniversary collection which came out a decade ago had more content than this.

The ports on the Anniversary Collection were pretty bad. If these are similar, I'll pass, but if they're closer to the NES games, I'll definitely buy. Plus, these have leader boards for speed runners(I love speed running MM), and it has remixed stages for all games, along with achievements/trophies. To me, as an avid MM player, this has more content. Plus, 7&8 aren't the best MM games, out there.

I'll wait to see what people over at the Capcom boards have to say about it after they play. I can't take another game with shoddy ports.

Only the first six games? That's pretty odd. Odd to see the Wii U excluded there, too. I mean, those games are available on the VC and all, but they're also on the 3DS VC, too. Weird collection.

How so? It was my way of playing 4-6 and I didnt have any issue with them

Boss patterns were different on a lot of them. There was significant lag while jumping(boot up MM2, and start off Bubble Man's stage where there's falling platforms, and you'll see it compared to the originals). Some of the music was rearranged/completely different. There was more slow-down/lag/flicker in a LOT of different areas, etc. And if you had the GC version, the jump and shoot buttons were reversed, and you couldn't change them back.

It was doable, and if you're not familiar with the originals, you probably wouldn't know, but if you know the originals inside out, you can tell that the ports were a rush job. The lag is what pissed me off the most. The X Collection was good, though. I didn't find anything significant with that.

That's because they built a whole new engine for the games, and it only works with the 8-bit games. MM7&8 were 16-32 bit, and don't even use the same engine. 9&10 look like 8-bit, but they're not, at all. So it makes sense from that standpoint.

But yeah, I'm pretty bummed about there not being a Wii U version. I'm just going to wait for the 3DS version this winter.

surprised capcom is releasing this and not sitting on the IP
hopefully it sees a release and doesn't get cancelled

Thats BS that I dont particuarly buy. Thats Capcom's fault. Its not like they couldnt have made one to encompass all the games or create a package that switches between titles. They wouldnt be the first to create a collection of different games. More than likely its bc they plan on selling a volume 2 for the later games, which seems more in line with how they operate

I dont have a Vita but it kind seems odd that there is none considering there's a 3DS version. These are old games and dont take much to run. It could have easily worked as a Crossbuy title

Sometimes old games are the hardest to run.

My guess with the 3DS version is that it's probably more of a straight emulation of the titles with slight modifications, which is already something done and on the system, so it probably will take almost no effort to do (pure guess work on my part, though).

But a lot of people have pointed out that Digital Eclipse is a very small production house, so these platforms may just be the prioritized systems (since all of them, barring the 3DS of course, have very similar architectures for porting) and other versions of the game will be released later on, such as the Wii U, Vita, and possibly last gen. That would make sense to me. It's honestly the only reason that I can think of why this wasn't announced for the Wii U. Previous gen and Vita I could all understand, but with as much presence and success the MM titles have had on the Wii U's digital space, it's a real head scratcher.

but then i remembered its capcom so meh i'll hold off and maybe see it on ps+ someday

Well, it is a HD upgrade even if it's not 1-10 so that's not much a dream to dare

It can't be a straight emulation of the ROMs, because they're including leader boards and video replays. You can't just tack those onto old ROMs and call it a day. Which is why they had to build a whole new engine.

And I would just wait until the actual price is announced, before people start calling this a "rip off". The MM Collection debuted for $30, and it was a shoddy port. If these are nice ports, that you can play in HD, with leader boards and remixed stages, I think that'll be a nice package. And I think they'll sell it for $15-$20. They may sell it for $30, but I just don't see it. Maybe?

Can you really not? I would think neither of those things would be all that difficultly to just "tack on." Well, I wouldn't say tack on, I'm sure it would take some work, but I wouldn't think that much work would be required. I don't know, though, it just just guess work on my part.

No, it doesn't work that way. :hehe:

Even fan made MM games are an amalgamation of different engines working on a PC. They're mostly completely new, not just a straight NES emulator with the ROMs attached.

Edit: Oh, and I just found out, it is $15. So that's a great deal, if you ask me.

I don't really see a need to change the graphics.

They did it for MM Powered UP on the PSP, which was just a MM1 remake. It was cool, but I prefer the 8-bit aesthetic.

Remakes are a completely separate thing though. This is a re-release.

is this getting a physical release or is it just a digital thing

as of now, just digital

the report i read said it will still be 8 bit. personally i was hoping for a ducktales style update

its still going to be in HD. Its not like a straight port of the original NES titles. It'll look better on your TV than were you to have that system plugged in
