Perhaps, but my problem is wondering as to whether introducing someone like brainiac might be a bit much for an origin film, let alone if he could provide anything significant for Superman's journey in a film covering his origins.

If they go with the TAS/Smallville angle, they could have Brainiac be a creation of Jor'el. I think that would provide more than enough significant material for an origins movie.

That is true.

I honestly do wonder though if the usage of Zod in this film is based on the desire to reintroduce Superman to the world with a realistic looking villain that would be a challenge for him as well before introducing villains where their appearances aren't...."normal".

Plus, it is cheaper to do Zod as well.

Is it me or this movie is sounding more and more like an improved version of JJ Abrams idea?

I mean, like I had mentioned above, I can't think of any other villain that could both challenge Superman mentally and physically without the need of kryptonite.

Lex has been done to death, and he would need kryptonite. Metallo needs kryptonite and what's fascinating about Parasite?lol

Intergang, meh....still a human based organization and not really a singular entity.
I would agree that ideally, you'd like to build up to someone like Braniac, IF you were confident that a followup was in place. If anything, I'd propose the 2 or 3 picture shebang all at once to get it greenlit. But some feel that they'd just like to see them at least try with a new film off the bat...just to see stuff we haven't seen in any form on the big screen yet...to at least address the deeper gallery of villains/storylines that Superman has to offer without having to wait for it while we restart again. I guess that's the sentiment.

I feel a little better about it after sleeping on it. I still feel like Brainiac will have a part in it tho, just not as the main villain. ( unless someone is pulling a fast one on us )

Plus, we already got Superman vs. Zod for three movies going by the name of Matrix. :D

If we got Superman vs. Braniac....we could be seeing the Neo vs. Machine City....ALL of Machine City.... that we never got! :awesome:

Plus theres the whole deal of the Kents shaping Superman to be protector of Earth and Zod feeling like he is a bastard. That was never shown before on screen.

Sorry but to me SII is REALLY cheesy. I cant stand that movie anymore. Its just so ridiculous and dated.

The episode Blasts from the past of TAS is so much better.

yet no one is complaining about Catwoman and Bane in the next Batman movie

You can't see the difference between Zod and the Batman villains that have been used for more than one film? Like seriously? I know some people try to argue that Zod has only been used once and that was 30 years ago. But the fact of the matter is, that's the only moment in Superman history the character ever played a significant role in the mythos. It' not like with the Joker, where there have been dozens of memorable stories in the comics and just as many interpretations in other media forms. When you mention Zod to anyone, not only the first but the ONLY thing that comes to mind is Terence Stamp. And it dosn't exactly help that the version they're using in the Comics right now is pretty much an adaption of the movie interpretation. With all of that in mind, i have to say, Zod is pretty much the worst choice out of all of Supermans big gun villains.

And if you ask me, a guy who's got all of Supermans powers... but uses them for criminal purposes isn't really all that exciting, neither storywise nor visually.

I've also grown quite tired of hearing "Kneel before Zod."

I think we had enough sulking and illegitimate birth in SR to last us a good while. :D :oldrazz:

The TAS Supes and Batman did a lot of things really well. SII is really cheesy in a lot of ways, but I don't think it calls for doing it 'better', so to speak. But all in all, I don't really care who they use as long as it's an enjoyable movie.

I don't know the actor but I do not like the idea of Zod being in the movie. It sounds lazy. Zod is too tied with the Donner-verse.

It also means that Superman is once again the reason that Earth is in danger.

It's gonna be so weird seeing Shannon as Zod after seeing him play such a weirdo on Boardwalk Empire. Good casting choice though

He kind of looks like Jeff East.

Not familiar with this dude at all but it's cool that they're going with Zod. Will be nice to see Supes throw a punch for a change.

"Zod again"... This is excellent news! And just because he was a character in a Donner film means jack s#:± I doubt there will be anything Boring about this match up. I find it funny how people think that because they can't come up with something in their own minds for good story that no one else should be able to; especially not Hollywood writers with movies that have grossed over a billion dollars. I also find it funny that there was so much fan casting hubbub about who should play Zod for this and that reason and now to "Aw man, we got Zod... ". All You nay sayers will still be in attendance. Followed by standing in line for the "band wagon".

This is awesome news. Shannon is one creepy good actor, specifically in Boardwalk Empire and Before the Devil Knows Your Dead. He will own this role.

Is it just me or does this move seem to be more of a studio hiring than Snyder's doing? Also I'm kinda surprised they went with such a young actor for General Zod.

they probably wanna make him seem more of an equal to Sups
(though, he is still like 10 years older then Cavill)

I see what you mean. I also find it curious that they are going in the exact direction Bryan Singer was rumored to be heading in for the Superman Returns Sequel.
Google 'Superman Returns sequel' and you will find Zod mentioned left and right....or maybe it is really Brainiac masquerading as Zod as the synopsis for the never made SR sequel suggests.
They even kept the title which Singer was supposedly using.
What if the WB suits picked this direction all along, years ago?
In other words, this was planned out when SR came out by the suits. They simply changed director and cast but are pretty much going to do the same thing they were before with Singer!

Sweet that Shannon is official, though I thought he was going for Lex. But  He looks damn mean when he wants to! A beard will do him good as well.

Nathan Jones for NON!

Here's also hoping Brainiac will make it into the first movie, at some point at least...

I'd rather he not sport the beard...

So he won't be associated with Stamp's Zod.

So Zod huh. I like the character but when Snyder said this was going to be completely differentm didn't he think audiences were going to associate Zod and co with Superman II?
