i doubt they would do any sequel/loosly following Sr. Plus it would be a bad move to go. We clearly need to know from the get go that this is an all new and all different superman and not follow/vaguely connected to past films.

I would take another route that would exploit Supes vulnerbility, loosely follow SR continuity(and I mean loosely), briefly re-visit his origin, and set-up future villains for sequels... and it would be as complicated or long as you think it may be.

No we do not need a sequel to SR. What we need is a reboot series.

with hows things are and when ever superman does get settled it doubtful they would even want it to be assoicated to donners/singer's films. Though we have no clue how things will go if/when another film is ready to go. Though it would be best to distance the next film far away from donners/singers films so this new one can have its own legs.

I would love to see Lex, Brainiac, or Doomsday as villains. Or maybe all three in the same film!

I know that you are banned; but just in case you are reading this... I'm not talking about a sequel to SR. God No! Neitherless, there is an element that I would like to exploit from SR... the return to the remnant of Krypton's orbit. Reason I said loosely based off SR.

Nothing more than that.

Whatever villains they put in each Superman movie should be remembered for doing something major like how Doomsday is the one that killed Superman. You should be able to sum up what exactly they did.

I had an idea for Braniac if there was going to be a sequel to SR...in that Braniac, hitched a ride back to Earth when Supes was visiting the remnants of Krypton. But I guess it could be adapted for his initial trip as a baby. Still, I had it as something that would work better for a second installment...a sequel which would go through the origins on Krypton and Supes arrival, and parallel it with the plot of the present time....whereas the first movie would start with Supes' first arrival in Metropolis and actually not go into the origins.

I had a similar idea as far as parallel stories is concern.... just with a different villain.

The reason why I put Braniac in a second film/story is because of the story/character arc I had in mind that I felt Braniac was particularly suited to....which was initially turning the people of Earth against Supes...something probably better for a second act/movie after the hero has been established.

that does sound like a good way to go with him. who do u feel is better suited for a first film foes.

Unfortunately, the natural choice is Luthor, but so many moviegoers would want something else for a change, at least for a start...even if the new one is 'done right'. That's what's tough about a reboot....as my original Braniac storyline was first intended as a possible SR sequel way back when. But now...there's some connecting aspects that can be left out, but it kinda' feels like the first chapter/film needs to be 'gotten out of the way' first...when it really needs to be impactful as possible to reestablish the franchise sequel or no sequel. And I very much feel that a big key to the reboot's success is offering a villain other than just Luthor again....so I dunno. Maybe Metallo, who can also serve to introduce kryptonite into eth storyline...but I generally don't like that character very much. It seems that so many of his really heavy-hitting villains depend on his being well-established, or are more suited to shorter-form/episodic use. It's a tough call for me.

I guess if you use Metallo, you could wait until near the end of the film to reveal that he's robotic and powered by Kryptonite...and then reveal at the end that Luthor was behind it. In the meantime, he could come off as possibly being another superbeing or what have you that makes Superman wonder if there's a connection between the two.

yea i agree metallo could probably be a nice starting out guy and still include lex as the puppet master and all that. I said before it would be cool if we go with guys like metallo, and brainiac, and then maybe over course of film series we see lex borrowing their tech and he makes the powersuit out of that stuff to be his ultimate weapon/last straw on superman.

I'm not crazy about Metallo either and I really wouldn't suggest introducing Kryptonite anywhere near the first film. Lex can work in his genious-businessman get-up, if he doesn't steal the limelight with any outrageous schemes. In fact, I'd probably prefer if Corben was introduced as an 'unofficial' source/hencman of Luthor's on the street and get the Metallo treatment in a later film. Since we were talking about the Parasite in another thread, you could probably do something similar with Rudy as well.

Off the top of my head, I'd rather have an Eradicator-esque villain in the first film. If it's set to reintroduce Superman, chances are he won't know where he came from. You can couple Lexcorp experimenting with pieces of (unknown to them) Kryptonian technology and releasing the Eradicator, with the latter playing a part both as the main villain and revealing to Superman the basics of his origin.

that could work. Sure i know alot dont want to see kryptonite again i wouldnt mind if it is around or at least hinted towards so we know its around and all that.

Yeah...again, it's tougher for me to see how these other villains may work with an introductory story, as I'm not really a comic reader. I knew about Ras Al Gul being a part of Wayne's past, but I was still impressed how they used that in BB to tie into the mob as well as Scarecrow. Obviously, with Superman being as powerful as he is, you'd like to match that power with a villain (as opposed to crime syndicates or terrorist organizations, etc.), and at this point, just throwing disaster after disaster at him ain't quite enough. Although, judging by 2012...you can really up the ante with the scope of disasters these days. :O I guess you could use parasite as well, but again, something's got to connect to Supes being introduced to the world...what made Parasite get his powers, and how does that connect to Superman...since we are talking about a new introduction?

totally we need a good throwdown foe for superman these days. With all the other hero films getting good villains to work with.

would having a ton of villains attack all the people Superman cares about only lead to the problem of stuffing one too many villains into one movie?

hmmm it could possible wattaborwnsound. Though if they handle each villain well/story is clear and defined.

Multiple villains are a standard practice and they'll come, assuming the next movie actually gets sequels. But to avoid a cluster****ery situtation, they'll have to mix b-list villains creating racket and an a-list villain doing some serious ****.

I still think Brainiac shouldn't be anywhere near in the first film, unless they pretty much use his STAS origin. The first film should probably not hit too far from home, keep things as 'small' and 'local' as possible, which is why Lex would've been ideal if he wasn't ruined by now and why I personally root for someone like the Eradicator, who is connected with Superman's origin. After we're done with that, we can easily expand in with other alien entities like Brainiac or Mongul and hopefully, Darkseid for the big finale (I don't think he's better reserved for a Justice League movie), while shoving Metallo or Parasite somewhere in there and probably have Lex as part of the supporting cast present in one form or another throughout the entire series.

Of course all that is highly speculative and my own personal preference.

well they could go metallo with lex being puppet master way.

plain and simple during the intro/credits....PLEASE use a voice over explaining supes origin (home planet, explosion, earth, child/adulthood etc) for the first 5-7mins.... THEN BOOM right into superman in the middle of a battle with a lesser character...(one he can actually hit!)

Then after beating him, get into the story... whatever it may be (luther in jail or a NEW threat emerging etc.)

BTW i like the idea of Darkseid monitoring earth at the end of the movie, or construction workers, making a phone call to lex corp saying "sir we have uncovered something in the mines/underground".... or course it could be a capsule containing doomsday..... just a thought...

i like the idea of using a voice over explaining supermans origin. it could be Jor-el doing the voice over for when they show krypton. they could give him one line before the planet explodes so we know who the voice belonged to. johnathan and/or martha kent can take over doing the voice over explaining Clark's life in Smallville. they could do the scene where martha and johnathan find clark's ship without a voice over letting them have some lines then carry on with the voice over.

There is so many ways they can do the origins of krypton/smallville life. I would love to see any kind they can think of doing.

My thoughts, posted elsewhere on the boards:

We begin with a ten to twelve min scene re-establishing the status quo. It shows clark as a teenager in smallivlle Kansas. We have a brief glimpse into his relationship with lana and his popularity. It is established that while clark is aware of his unusual arrival he has yet to display any real abilities other than being in peak human shape without much effort. He is a gifted and talented athlete at this point. Everything changes for Clark when he gets home that evening.

He discovers someone in the barn examining and activating his ship. After a brief confrontation it is revealed that the visitor isn’t human but some form of Artificial Intelligence using a hologram as a cloaking device to appear human (underneath the display the robot looks like a mix between the braniac bots from the comic and robots from the movie I-Robt.) Clark has a brief but intense battle with the robot. His various powers begin to display themselves all at once turning the tide of the battle in clark’s favor. During the fight he displays feats of strength and durability unknown to him until now. He uses heat vision and towards the end of the battle superspeed and flight, in a very chaotic manner (it’s obvious he doesn’t know what he’s doing but the control comes more naturally as he continues).

At some point his parents get involved, his father Jonathan using his shotgun on the robot. During this time he exerts himself more than he should. To end the battle (after perhaps being tossed a great distance) clark runs as fast as possible to save his parents from the robot. Right before impacting with the robot clark takes flight for the first time. As clark flies off, Jonathan collapses. In the air clark battles the robot until he unleashes his heat vision at point blank range incinerating the robot’s opic nerves and causing it to stop functioning. Just as clark defeats the robot he hears the scream of his mother “Jonathan!!!!” He wakes up suddenly. The entire first act is a dream sequence in which he remembers the first time his powers really flared up.

After this scene Clark discovers that the remains of the brainiac drone/probe are missing. Later we discover that a young rouge scientist working for star Labs, has the remains. In studying it he determines that the alloy is not from earth and discovers a host of other things that point to it having extraterrestrial origin. The scientist is able to reverse engineer the advanced technology and uses this knowledge to advance his own personal agenda. The rouge scientist is Lex Luthor. He uses the knowledge he gains to create several technological breakthroughs and founds LexCorp. He has an antagonistic relationship with star labs after this.
This all happens in the ten year period between the opening scene in the movie and Clark finally appearing as superman. All of this isn’t necessarily shown on screen but is implied. What we do see at some point is that lex has a room that still holds the robot. At some point he’s explaining everything to someone maybe lois or Clark or both, then he points out how the metal like material the robot is composed of is harder than any substance known to man. He then asks then to look closer. He points out what appears to be the imprint of a human hand on the robot’s arm (were Clark grabbed it).
Lois looks surprised. “Now what kind of a person would be strong enough to do that?” Lex poses the question (maybe lois and Clark are both there). “Superman?” Lois mumbles to herself. “As you can see the hand print isn’t that of a full grown man but possibly a teenager. It appears our ‘Man of Steel’ has been here longer than any of us knew….Hmm…I wonder what he was doing all that time before he came to metropolis…don’t you, Lois?”

LexCorp leads the world in cutting edge technology and military applications of this technology. Lex creates metallo with the an synthetic version of the metal on the brainiac probe. We superman confronts metallo he notices the similarity in his design to the robot and wonder if they are somehow connected.

Also near the end of the film the probe reactivates, perhaps after clark leaves the room in the scene where lex describes everything. It says "kryptonian identified, initiating homing beacon". the movie ends in the far reaches of space as a lone ship cruises along, suddenly coming to life as if recieves the beacon. Brainiac is coming to earth. Sets you up nicely for a sequel involving brainiac
