Discuss the greatness that will be: NOVA!

So the new Nova is confirmed to be Sam Alexander, a teenager who will also be featured in the USM cartoon

Disappointing in a number of ways, first I hate digital comics..and will have no part.

2nd
I really thought the tales of Richard Ryder were unfinished, and I would rather have the new Nova be from someone in that book at the least,(Robbie, Tarcel, Etc..) This really sounds like the old reboot of Nova as a "peter parker" archtype that is such a reoccurring epic fail

Meh. I agree, following an established Nova would've been much better. Maybe even having Robbie searching the cosmos for Rich. But I'll still give this new dude a try. It's Mark Waid, after all, and the Corps presumably still exists if they're getting new recruits, so we might still see Tarcel and the others at some point.

I'm kind of tempted to write something like, "Dear Marvel: Please print this comic as well so you're not excluding your primary audience," too. I've never met a digital comic I liked.

Wait...What?

Why is the thread alive again? Is there a Nova title that I missed?

Oh, Digital Release.

Pass.

Digital thingamadoodad following some new Nova by Mark Waid.

When the Sam Washington version of Nova was pitched for the USM TV show, which Jeph Loeb is producing, I called on my news article column that this meant the Nova who Loeb introduced in POINT ONE #1 would be him and not Richard Rider. This merely confirms I was right. It's seen as "synergy", but I also am disappointed it wasn't someone from the established cast from NOVA. I do hope Mark Waid finds a way to reconcile it with how DnA left the Nova Corps, and possibly have some of those characters appear. I will say I didn't feel having ALL of the Nova Force vacate the Corps members at the end of THANOS IMPERATIVE was a wise idea, as it limited future stories. Still, I'd have rather that not have been fixed with a new schmuck.

Is it also not good "synergy" to now introduce a different Nova than the version already introduced to millions in ULTIMATE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2.

All digital comics are printed and sold eventually. Remember, this is Marvel - if there is any opportunity to squeeze a cheap buck from someone, they will. If Marvel can sell something in two formats, why not? They've done that with all their prior digital comics, and DC is doing it with BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED.

More Rich than Star-Lord. I thought the Annihilators were a worthy successor to Star-Lord's Guardians in concept (although it was less than impressive in practice). But Rich dies and then the Nova Corps just goes away. There's no follow-up or anything. I thought DnA were building a pretty awesome new Corps with Tarcel and Robbie and Qubit and all, then poof, gone. Very disappointing.

Oh, great. I won't be able to read this even if I wanted to unless they decide to offer some sort of printed copy (when I pay for something I want to be able to hold it). And in the end, unless this somehow resolves the many loose ends DnA left, I don't give a ****.

That Point One issue made me want to hunt down Jeph Loeb and give him the wedgie of a lifetime.

I agree here. If you're going to rip off Green Lantern, then do it ****ing right. Even if Richard had to go (for a while) with Star-Lord to stop Thanos, that didn't mean the rest of the Corps had to go. I always felt DnA's heart was more into Nova and Star-Lord than ANNIHILATORS, and I think the quality showed.

Nothing hurts worse in comics than lost potential.

So not only is it not Rich, but it seems to be ignoring DnA's previous work and their building of the Nova Corps? AND it's digital only?

Man, Marvel you suck sooooooo ****ing hard right now.

If it wasn't Mark Waid , I'd be pissing all over this but...I think Waid is perhaps on of the most solid Superhero writers in the industry along with Dixon, Marz, McDuffie (Bless his soul) and Peter David.

But, Digital Distribution is not the way to do it. I want the feel of a book in my hands. Computers and tablets crash all the time. Mongols/Huns coming from the East to burn books happens on occasion.

And I will admit, visually speaking, the costume looks good. Sleek. Unique.

I think this article sums up a lot of the pent up frustrations Nova fans are feeling:

http://comics.cosmicbooknews.com/content/joe-quesada-promoting-new-nova-ultimate-spider-man

I'm not sure what to think. Maybe Joe Q figured his sanctioned take on Nova would sell better than DnA's stuff.

Yeah, that article is spot on.

I suppose the hope is that Nova's death was ambiguous enough to reverse, as it likely will be done with Thanos, if it hasn't already. And the Corps characters are still around for someone to use. You never know. Sam Alexander could run into Philo or something somewhere.

Slim, I know. But, aside for that it's hard to not get bitter. Of course Jeph Loeb's pet gets the promotion.

Digital Comics will never replace the comics magazine format, unlike newspapers or news magazines, these are meant to be kept and enjoyed over and over. Nothing replaces sitting in a comfortable spot reading a stack of favorite comics....even at my age. :yay:

The thing that bothers me is that the Old NOVA was never a bomb, especially in light of the lack of promotion the article talks about, he actually had decent sales which slowly dwindled into a zone where cancellation was actually very premature (in fact the book was described to be on hiatus, not cancelled)

What should have happened was the usual that happens to a decent book in need of a spark:

-Creative Team change
-cool hero guest star
-Spotlight with a major event/team (heck being featured in a cartoon)
-possible duty on a major team (Avengers or Defenders)

Some of these actually happened..in that NOVA was featured on Secret Avengers. While this book sold well, it was a horrible showing for NOVA who was insulted in this appearance.

I do think it is "neat" to have Mark Waid writin a nova tale, but after all it's one story.

Nova fans have seen this before with Erik Larsen, and nothing needs to be said about that run.

Personally, I think the story of Annihilation should have been considered for a feature film. Virtually all the characters are available (save SS and Galactus).

Certainly the cosmic setting would equal a decent budget, but when Marvel is sending Wanted and Kick Ass to the theaters....why not consider this for the silver screen.

An Annihilation movie wouldn't work without Surfer, Galactus and most importantly, Annihilus, who is at Fox under the F4 rights.

they could easily work without surfer or galactus...would be unfortunate, but it could work.

Fox may even have the film rights to Nova via FF...they have the rights to Frankie Raye Nova.

I could see Disney pushing hard to get the rights back, and Fox has been cool on making a FF sequel...(which may change after Avengers banks)

If Fox doesnt announce a new FF movie by 2013 the rights are supposed to revert back.

Ehh you take Galactus out of it and you take away the cosmic bomb that Annihilus wants to use. And you take away the chance at seeing probably the best action scenes in the story (Surfer vs Ravenous and co, Galactus vs Aegis and Tenebrous, Heralds taking on the Wave etc)

You could still dues ex machina the bomb's power.

You could have Aegis and Tenebrous still , maybe replace Big G with a new character (i know having the real G is preferable)

I think the Annihilation mini is too big for 1 flick, anyways but it probably should be done as such to test the waters.

The story would have to be altered somewhat, but you could still deliver a solid version

Sorry, but Annihilation won't work as a live-action movie. Too many characters, too much dynamic scenes and a lot of it would come off as extremely cheesy CGI.

Unless you're talking a high-end Animated feature, I'd say Annihilation is at its best in Comic form.

I honestly wouldn't want to see Annihilation on the screen. The book was an epic tale that I don't think, even will all the money and CGI in the world, film can properly capture. Would rather see maybe an adaption of Conquest focusing on only the formation of the Guardians as the first big cosmic film. Phalanx could make an interesting villain to focus on if you give it a proper representative.

But no techno-clouds, please.
