The Official Black Panther Thread - Part 1

WTF is Marvel doing with this character? Obviously they don't know either!

Dear Marvel,
Every black man does not want to be white.
Roach

Yeah what their doing is...It's just so ridiculously stupid

Hey Marvel
Hows about instead of trying to make Black Panther into Daredevil, Captain America or Spider-man...how about you keep him Black Panther?
...and while we are at it do the same for Moon Knight.
If I want to read Spider-man I'll read Spider-man
If I want to read Captain America I'll read Captain America
When I want to read Black Panther or Moon Knight thats who I want to read
:applaud

Seriously there are enough black versions of popular superheroes as it is how about Marvel just let the Black Panther be the damn Black Panther.

and here's the stupid thing...Marvel already has a Black Captain America in Josiah X or Patriot
No need to make BP into something he isnt

trying to come up with another post so I can get the coveted qft-part 3

Wasn't Black Panther the first true African superhero in the comicdom? To change his name to American Panther is a huge BS from Marvel, not to mention disrespect for a character that has a rich history. Has Marvel gotten so PC that they're afraid of putting black in a superhero's name?

T'Challa isn't even American so it will be intresting to see how they come up with adopting this identity.

Its like if Steve Rogers started going around as Captain Wakanda draped in Wakandas colours and symbols.

..... Imagine Captain America taking a break from being "top Cop" in America - "testing Himself" in Wakanda because T'challa is doing Hells Kitchen, Shuri is doing a Paris Hilton crawl, and Ororo Monroe is out saving the X-Men.

Wearing Yellow and Black with Stylized Borders and the image of a Panther on his chest:

"Captain Wakanda" prowls the city.

Oh Josiah X. Such a wasted character that was awesome. All they have to do is use the guy. I wish that Burbaker used him after Cap got shot because I saw a lot of potential for him there.

And this is why no one takes the "vocal minority" of fandom seriously. You're making judgements and presumptions based on very little info. Info that is likely designed to mislead, no less.

Thank god none of your opinions matter.

Really???
Explain to me in what way would taking an african prince with his own superhero identity and turn him into 'American Panther' seem like a good idea?

Again, you're being presumptuous. Explain to me how you're certain that's T'Challa under the mask. Explain to me how you know enough about the story surrounding the one character sketch that you've seen to make a judgment about it.

Oh so another person comes in and takes the Panther mantle and draws attention from Tchalla?
Still lame.
Sorry but you are not gonna talk me down off this one. Marvel has shown a habitual inability to utilize the first black superhero in any meaningful way. First they take the title of Black Panther away from him, then they have him replace Daredevil...now American Panther.

It's amazing how you can still miss the point, even after it's spelled out for you.

Dude. It totally makes sense though. You see Winston Churchill once became an Ethiopian cop, and walked around calling himself Prime Ethiopian Churchill because he really liked and was inspired by Haile Selassie. T'Challa is just doing the same thing now with Captain America.

Bill Clinton is now calling himself Nelson Mandela because he can

Dear David Liss,

T'Challa is not ranked #8 in the Top 8 smartest people in the Marvel Universe. That belongs to Amadeus Cho. T'Challa is ranked a bit higher, while it would have been nice to see where he is ranked below Reed Richards, Victor von Doom, Hank Pym, and Bruce Banner, he has been confirmed to be ranked higher than Cho. God dammit I hate this book.

Sigh.
I went back and reread the entire exchange.

Since we ALL make "judgments" based on the sprinkling of data given before the books come out,.. You are "UNFAIR" to have issue with someone seeing "American Panther" as T'Challa.

They take the character, almost kill him, (Props that it takes an effort by Doom,.. but slams the Panther by saying that someone who plans for Galactus can be hurt by Dr. Doom.), They make a STABLE Hi-Tech Society that has existed for century's "suddenly" destabilize and allow a coup,.. where One of the most powerful Mutants on the planet with literally HUNDREDS of super powered Acquaintances / friends can be locked up and set aside for "death" w/o the FF or the X-Men MINIMUM Coming to stop it.

You let him heal while dragging an unknown sister from her life of debauchery into the role of the Black Panther. While the hi-tech country "barely" beats off the ATTACK of a villain that Spiderman beat using Radio-shack level gear slaved to a nuclear plant while depending on his tolerance for radioactive energy,..
(breath)
Same Hi-Tech Society which is SUPPOSED to be one of the most advanced on the planet gets infiltrated w/o anyone noticing by tech that C Priest used in his run.

The cannoned over achieving uber planning-ist person on the planet can't do more than destroy the countries primary export to stop Doom??
He is so out of character for ANY version of him outside of "Happy Pants" Panther that No one is really surprised by the sudden introduction of hundreds of African Princesses, T'challa learning magic, and his turning to the worlds heroes against the massive army of Doom?

A country he fought to get back then lets him slip off to America W/O his tech base or bodyguards to "test himself"
A wife who watched her husband almost die lets him go unprotected by ANYTHING including the the new magic and powers granted by a suddenly stingy Panther God INSTEAD of the one time ingestion of a heart shaped plant???

Sigh.

So it is VERY unlikely with ALL that has been done to this Character that SOMEONE ELSE would wear MOSTLY a black costume and call himself "American Panther"

This kind of pain has only been for one guy,....

It's like someone at Marvel is casting about to make T'Challa palatable - Getting rid of years of having a clue, Years of being on a Par with Captain America, Years of being bright enough to recognize a doodad cobbled together By Reed Richards,...
From years of rarely losing to having this never ending non-stop losing streak culminating with his renouncing his country??

So I'm not surprised at what he's said,.. and even agree with him.

Marvel Comics has sent CBR News the following teaser image offering an exclusive look at what is presumably the Black Panther's next identity: American Panther. The publisher would disclose no information regarding the character or image other than to say "Fear Itself" will have a "huge impact" on "Black Panther: The Man Without Fear." Currently written by David Liss, the series is illustrated by Francesco Francavilla, who also drew the American Panther character study.
