Pardon me for straying from topic but I remember reading a lil' about the proposed trilogy after ROTJ and this is what I remember they were gonna do if they went through with it...

The 2nd SW trilogy would have focused on Lukes search for his sister.

His sister was essentially the Mara Jade character from the expanded universe and would've been an agent of the Emperor intent on destorying Luke.

Eventually, Luke would convert his sister to the light side and they would fight a newly resurrected Emperor.

Obviously, almost all of these points went into that one paticular expanded universe story...don't remember the title.
Poor Mara:csad:
I'm gonna miss her.

anyone think pirates will hit a billion? im thinkin around 900.

Are you seriously asking that?
Go watch it again, instead of asking us what happens.
Anyway. Leia was not supposed to be Luke's sister. The sister was supposed to be in the next trilogy, but that idea was scraped, so they made Leia Luke's sister.

Yeah Leia wasn't named Luke's siter till ROTJ. I didnt know that originally she wasnt supposed to be his long lost sister. Interesting. Learn something new everyday.

Just saw it. My thoughts in a nutshell: I liked it better than "Dead Man's Chest" but still feel that "Curse of the Black Pearl" is the best of the lot.

My sentiments exactly.

COTBP = 10
DMC = 5
AWE = 8

I LOVED it, this series rocks!

Curse of the Black Pearl 10/10
Dead Man's Chest 10/10
At World's End 10/10

I can't wait for any future movies they come up with (The more Sparrow I see, the better!).

I saw it again this afternoon, and I noticed when Jack is fighting Davy Jones and holding the chest, he says "I can set you free, mate." Davy says something about his heart being gone a long time ago.

Now he could have meant set him free by killing him, but since there's supposedly a deleted scene explaining how Will could come back to Elizabeth for good (instead of once every 10 years), maybe that had something to do with "setting him free"??

A few people who walked in for the next show came in during the last scene after the credits. The people behind me thought it was the beginning of the movie and they had gotten there late. I explained what it was as I was walking out. :woot:

It could be seen as one of those Vader-eske, "It is TOO late for me, son." kinda thing...

Davey probably thinks that he is simply too far gone..

Now as fara s Luke and Lea goes has anyon ever whatched documentary called Empire of Dreams. Lucas himself explains the Luke and Lea stuff watch it if you have so many questions you think may be right or wrong.

If there is a Pirates 4 include new characters for Barbossa and Jack to encounter. I would Like to see either Poesiden or Neptune which is teh same thing i believe.
Maybe he could put Calypso back in her human form.

Or that his heart is broken and useless to him.

but in the 2nd movie that is not the reason Davey Jones does so
Actually, the reason he did it is only speculated about, and told as if it is a legend. It is made clear that there are several version of the legend. It is never shown absolutely why he cut out his heart, or if it was even him who did it.

The writers kind of wrote themselves into a corner with Wills story, unless they dont plan on having Orlando come back.

I loved this movie and I feel that it was an excellent conclusion. Elizabeth was kicking some ass and the whole fight with Davy Jones and his ultimate death was incredible.

There needs to be a sequel. And if this rumored deleted scene about a possible loop hole with the whole Davy Jones ordeal with William, I would love to hear about it and see it expanded in a sequel.

EXCLUSIVE EARLY FRIDAY & 3-DAY ESTIMATES: Weakest 'Ocean's' yet w/$12M Friday - $34.3M for the weekend; 'Surf's Up' soft w/$5M Friday - $15.2M OW; 'Hostel' tanks w/$3M Friday - $7.3M OW

by Steve Mason

The fourth “three-quel” of the summer is anything but a charm for Hollywood, as Ocean’s Thirteen (Warner Bros) has opened to an underwhelming $12M Friday, which should translate to a disappointing $34.3M. If the number holds, this will be the worst opening of the Ocean’s franchise, trailing Ocean’s Eleven ($38.1M) and Ocean’s Twelve ($39.1M).

Although not a disaster, this is well below industry expectations. My sources have been telling me that the picture scored solidly in industry tracking with Un-Aided Awareness of 11% and a Total Aware of 95%. Definite Interest is a very strong 50% (Males Under 25 at 53%, Males 25 Plus at 50%, Females Under 25 at 43% and Females 25 Plus at 52%) and 16% of moviegoers surveyed described Ocean’s as their First Choice this weekend (Males Under 25 at 17%, Males 25 Plus at 16%, Females Under 25 at 11% and Females 25 Plus at 19%). $40M has been a foregone conclusion, and more than a few industry types, including yours truly, were looking for a $50M opening.

Maybe moviegoers are already burned out on sequels. Or possibly, people have a bad taste in their mouth from the poorly received Ocean’s Twelve. Several of my sources has pointed out that the marketing campaign feels very “been there, done that.” Was there really much innovation in the posters, trailers, commercials, etc.? The campaign certainly didn’t break any new ground. And, there’s always the possibility that guys like George Clooney and Brad Pitt are cooler in LA and NY than they are in Red State America. Maybe their lavish lifestyles and liberal politics have alienated folks in the middle of the country. Guys like Bill O’Reilly have certainly done their best to demonize even a likable lib like Clooney.
Despite the weaker-than-expected opening, Ocean’s Thirteen is still the 3rd-best opening of director Steven Soderbergh’s career.

Unfortunately for the film industry, the other two new releases are also major disappointments. Sony’s Surf’s Up has managed only an estimated $5M to start the weekend, and the 3-day will likely be approximately $15.2M. It’s no small feat to release a computer-animated talking animal movie in the heart of the summer season and deliver numbers this soft.
Surf’s Up is Sony’s third recent animated release, and the weakest of the trio.

Meanwhile, the once-highly-anticipated Eli Roth project Hostel II (Lionsgate) is a flat-out bomb. Originally set for release in January, Lionsgate now probably wishes that they had stuck with the original plan. This picture is getting “slaughtered” in the marketplace (which seems somehow fitting) with just $3M on Friday and a likely $7.3M for the weekend.

On the bright side, Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End (Buena Vista) finished 2nd on Friday with an estimated $6.2M and, with an expected $21.4M for the weekend representing a decent 52% drop, it’ll surpass $250M by Monday morning.
Knocked Up (Universal), fueled by strong word-of-mouth, added $6M Friday and that will likely translate to a very solid $19.4M for the weekend. That’s a great hold, down just 37%, and it’ll put the hilarious Judd Apatow comedy over the $50M mark. Finally, Shrek the Third (Dreamworks/Paramount) grabbed $4.2M to start the weekend, and it’s probably headed for a 4th place finish with $15.6M down by just 44%.

Just a quick question. Did anyone find it cowardly of Jack not to stab the heart at the end? From my understanding, he was talking about doing all throughout act II but hesitated to do it.

Then he gets all this praise from Elizabeth, and for what? I think I just missed something and need to see it again. If anyone could clear this up, I'd appreciate it.

in part 2 he didn't know that by stabbing the heart he would take over davy's job. in part 3 when he finds out, the idea of eternal life sounds appealing to him, but the loosing of freedom is what made him hesitate at the end.

No he was not a coward at all. He did the 'right' thing, watch the second one,
Elizabeth said one day you will have to do the right thing, and your going to love it.

And Jack did the right thing, but saving Will by letting him stab the heart and live. He wasn't a coward at all he was a hero in a way by doing the right thing.

Exactly. And even Captain Teague (aka: Keith Richards) said it to him earlier in the movie, that it wasn't about living forever. It's living with yourself forever. He knew he couldn't take Will from Elizabeth if there was a chance of saving him.

Oh Yes! You know it!
'And gain the rewards that follow...' Yeah, Barbossa taking the Pearl was a reward wasn't it Liz? lol
