We're not slandering. Slander is spoken. In print, it's libel:p.

One of the inherent flaws of doing an "alternate universe" story like this is that since everything's going to be undone in the end anyway, where is the emotional impact? Why should we care about any of this if it's all fake? Yes, the number of mutants is disastrously reduced -- which is a frikkin' stupid idea in its own right -- but that doesn't affect the Hulk, or Captain America, or Daredevil, or any person in the Marvel universe that's not a mutant. Characters like Luke Cage and She-Hulk get to stand around and think "Whew, that was trippy!" but now things are back to business as usual for them. In effect, we have an 8 issue miniseries where nothing of lasting emotional significance happens beyond mutant reduction, which itself was an out-of-left-field curveball that only happened in the last two pages of the second-to-last issue. So unless the only emotional impact you wanted to get out of this entire "Big Event" was the reduction of mutants, there is really no impact at all.

So far the only non-mutant holdover we've seen from the House of M is that Peter Parker gets angsty again about Gwen. Okay, here is the reality: Gwen Stacy died decades ago, and Peter is happily married to MJ. We all appreciate the fact that she's an important part of his history, but literally digging up her corpse and forcing more drama from a dead horse -- no pun intended -- does not a good story make; really, it just violates the character more than anything else. I've said this before and I'll say it again: writers desperate for cheap drama love to mess around with Gwen because she's sacrosanct. They love to try to bring her up over and over again and maybe even try something controversial with her because they're not supposed to. A long-dead first love? It's the ultimate forbidden fruit. But Gwen's story is done. She's had closure. She's had finality as a comic book character. There is no reason to keep making her relevant other than, as I said, cheap drama. The fact that a sort of storyline has been done before does not automatically make it bad, but the fact that a specific storyline has been done before does. Spider-Man has fought killer robots before and will probably be fighting killer robots many more times in the future and yet there are still ways of making that interesting; on the other hand, the "Who does Peter love more, Gwen or MJ?" ship has sailed over and over again, and it's not gonna get any better or worse, just more desperate.

And honestly, it's not ALL *****ing. In fact, I would say I'm about half and half. For every HoM there is a crisis, for every Sins Remembered there is the Hydra arc.

I, and I'm sure most readers, put credit where credit is due. JMS was on my doo doo list until that hydra arc, which I absolutely LOVED. Bendis may have been a great DD writer, but I don't really like DD, so I wouldn't know. I read my comics for the characters, so all I see is him F'ing up my favorites, and that is my impression of the guy.

The spoilers on the boards are my only regret about reading these boards. Aside from that, I love seeing people so passionate about something I myself am passionate about. If someone tells me that they think that Academy X sucks, it's not really going to make me stop reading it. People like to and need to vent sometimes, and that's what these boards are for.

You have to have the forum mentality of water-off-a-duck's-back or you'll get disheartened.

Sweet, merciful Baby Jesus, thank you. That was my point. There is a way to handle melodrama in comics without reaching out and slapping the reader in the face with it. The decompression storyline concept is waaay too touchy feely with getting into everyone's head and "exploring their feelings" for me. The last issue of Spidey with a 14 page chat between Tracer and Aunt May is exactly what I find wrong in comics these days. Too much talk and hand wringing, not enough beat the crap out of someone.

OH,.. and to complete a thought I forgot to complete.... the point with the Age of Apocalypse thing was that even if it wasn't completely original,.. it can still be good when you don't just look for things to complain about. House of M has actually been pretty good,.. but people just look for things to complain. Just enjoy the comic,... if it isn't your thing... then wait for the next one... what pleasure do you (and by you I mean everyone) get by slandering someone's work,.. and something that others are really enjoying?

beats me. i'm not a psychologist. but i quite vividly remembered Disassembled and the reactions to it. all of these newbies came out of the woodworks cheering Bendis on as he destroyed what i had been enjoying. and i read all of Bendis' interviews where he slandered the Avengers concept. and i wondered to myself, "why is this happening? why am i being forced out of my hobby? why is he destroying everything i care about? and why are other readers supporting this?" it's easy to ask someone else to 'wait for the next one' when you're enjoying what you're reading; when things are going your way. do you think i'd care at all if i had my Marvel Universe and other posters were complaining. hell no! i'd be happily discussing what i enjoy; not wasting my time by rubbing it in the faces of those on the losing end of the stick.

Are they talking baout Banner? I want them to be talking about Banner. Also, ham!

I think it's Banner.

That Luke Cage/Spider-Woman scene doesn't work. They should both know better.

For those of you who don't know it, Byrnsie blew up Pittsburgh back in the late 80s(right around the era of Hair Bands like Whitesnake) in this universe. I don't know which was worse: that he blew it up, or that he called the remaining crater "The Pitt?!?!"

Nice! Hey, I like the New Universe...Starbrand in particular. This should be fun!

Yeah, I know. I can't wait.

(Be honest though. Being from Cleveland, you just want to see them blow us up again, don't you?)

Doc Ock is also an expert in this area.

Be more interesting if it's him they have to call on.Not the first time Reed Richards called on Ock for his expertise.

That's exactly what I was thinking (another Byrnsie story)

ROFL I keep forgetting about poor Pittsburgh. By the way, my band is playing there at a metal fest on the 19th :)

I actually always liked that he did that (in some sick way). Back then, I would've been on the edge of the crater. Now I live in Oakland, right at the epicenter!

Where's your band playing?

Some hall rented by a band from around there. I guess there's no real metal venues in the area?

I'm afraid if I attempt to answer that question, I'll be exposed for how truly old and lame I really am.

She has been for some time. Atlas put her there by dropping debris on her in a fight. Then they shared the same body for awhile, but when they split, just recently, he took his power back, which crippled her again.

You shouldn't be. T-Bolts is one of Marvel's best books right now, hands down.
