I agree, they are going to want to go head to head with what else will be out there. I wonder what the One is going to be priced though...
X1 is heavily rumored to be $299 with a subscription fee. If that holds true, then I expect it to be $499 without a subscription

I think $399 will be the low end with a $599 premium SKU.

Yeah.. No. Sony is not this stupid. They were once... They learned their mistake.

399.99...Tops.
Yeah, I don't think they'll be that generous, I'm expecting what Soapy estimated

I don't think we'll get multiple sku's.. And if we do I still don't see Sony ever... Ever attaching 599.99 price tag to one of their systems again.

MS..? Maybe.

400 seems like a pretty absurdly low price point to start at considering new Ps3s still run for 250+. I'd guess anywhere from 399-599 for multiple different versions.

Wasn't the PS3's high price the product of having a blu-ray player in the days when the players themselves cost several hundred dollars?

I mean, it ain't gonna be cheap, but the PS3 was exceptionally expensive at 600 dollars. I was in Europe when it came out, and I remember people gawking at the 600 Euro price tag.

People don't have a problem buying ipads for a lot, but suddenly throw a fit when a console costs to much. And $599 is still cheaper than a good pc, or macbook. Technolgoy isn't cheap people. But my guess would be a starting price of $499.

To be fair, we determine how much something is worth by the competition. At the time the Wii was going for 250, and the 360 for 399. And then the model for 299 came out.

That makes the PS3 50% more expensive than a 360. 200 dollars isn't chump change either.

You know, I really wish Sony would bring back Kevin Butler, although after the whole lawsuit stuff with the actor, I doubt we'll ever see him again. But that character could really help bring hype to the "gamer" at E3.

I liked Kevin Butler, but I'm fine if they don't. I just want them to start up something. Sony makes pretty interesting ads and commercials when they want to. They have the creativity. It's just that they spend most of the time being content with just putting a playstation logo flash after a commercial for multiplat games. If they're not going back to Butler, they need to come up with some new, and entertaining marketing stuff for the PS4 launch. Though I'm getting a feeling we'll see more abstract commercials again like some of the weird ones we've seen in the past.

Kevin Butler is something I associate with the PS3 and he really shouldn't be used going forward with the PS4.

I will agree with this, but like Fading said, I would like to see some new kind of creative marketing from Sony. Like I think back to the E3 conference they had right after the PSN crashed, and it was a very serious toned event, which was expected since Sony was in hot water at the time. But then last year's conference, and even the PS4 conference both seemed to lack a person who was capable of getting the crowd hyped up.

And even with their ads and promotions for the exclusives, they did some live-action stuff, which was awesome, but a big knock that I heard were that they relied too much on people knowing who the characters were, and other than the PS logo at the end, it was hard to tell that it was an ad for a game. Kevin Butler worked well because he spoke to you about something, and then showed some gameplay related to what he was saying. I feel like Sony has really lacked that kind of persona pretty much ever since the PSN fiasco, and if there was ever a great time to have someone come out and speak directly to the gamer, it would be now, when MS fans feel like they've been betrayed for more casual people.

I mostly associate Butler with the PS3's "comeback". That character probably played at least some part in that.

They also tried to do something similar for the PSP. They had that kid do a few PSP commercials, the first one had Butler on it too.

I do agree with Spidey though. KB worked because it had a blue collar feel to it. It wasn't trying to aim over the viewers head, be pretentious, or overly artsy. It was just simple humor, and straight to the point. Letting a comedian make you laugh, while acting like he was so engrossed in the game he couldn't even be bothered to do the commercial. It worked.

I'd like for Sony to do that again. The black artsy CGI commercials look neat, but don't lend themselves well to repeated commercials. Having another "face" of Playstation that can talk to the viewer, and keep them entertained is best.

I definitely think he did. Before that, the PS3 did a lot of abstract and weird commercials that didn't work (most noticably, the baby one). Kevin Butler changed that and made the commercials more fun while actually showing what the PS3 is made of.

I would like a Vita, but I still don't feel like I need a Vita. I still haven't seen anything that makes it look like a must have and I really hope the PS4 helps change that.

Can you use it for remote play on the PS3?

Ah nice. Has anyone tried it? Would like to know how well it works & what you can do on it on top of what the regular controller does.

Like others have said...no way it will be over $400. If you read older articles where they are talking about the original price of the PS3, they made it pretty clear they learned from that mistake.

As long as they don't hire someone like Ken Jeong or something. If they're going for that Kevin Butler type of role maybe someone like Brian Unger who plays the Lawyer on It's Always Sunny. He's hilarious in a very subtle way.
