You didn't just show me a Seiki TV like it was legit. Maybe I should have said "Not ****** 4K TV's."

I do.

Back when the Ps3 was launched, no one cared about blu ray. But sony invested their balls off into blu ray and the Ps3 was one of the heaviest pushers of that new technology. I wish the new gen consoles were more about that as well.
Im sure you do but like I said, you are in a very very small minority. The audience for this is too small to care about at the moment.

You cant quite compare BR to 4K. The PS3 was built around BR technology. The PS4 is not built around 4K. Sony forced consumers to upgrade as BR was required for PS3 functionality. 4K is not required for PS4 functionality. Sony has less interest to be invested as a result

There is also no rush to add 4K support as there is no 4K content. There are a few movie studios that have put select movies out on BR but that is only a handful and the PS4 isn't pushing any media functionality. You say you want it so your games look as good as possible, but guess what? Aint happening. We are only just now getting 1080p to be a standard and not all games do that natively (check Killzone's MP controversy). 4K is nearly 4 times the resolution and would be even harder to render properly. Not to mention, with disc spaced reaching maximum capacity (like with TLoU), the disc space and HDD (and subsequently) downloading cant support that 4K wont be a thing for gaming till at least next generation. The market cant support that technology right now. At best you might get some smaller PSN titles that feature it a few years for now

who the heck are those companies even? Id stick with someone more reputable like Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, etc....

Forgive my ignorance, but what is 4K, and why should I care?
A higher resolution than 1080P

Seiki is one of the worst brands of TV's you can buy. I've dealt with SO many problems from that company. TCL used to make the horrible Sears brand store TV's.

Neither are good. When I said 6-700 I should have said "Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp," etc.

Hell even Vizio, which, IMHO gets a bad rub. Decent company to deal with that actually make solid affordable TV's for people on a budget.

Im an electronics snob. Im of the mindset that if you buy cheap product, expect cheap quality

Pretty much. My first 1080p TV was a Vizo though.. 47" LCD. Still works like a champ, have it set up in the bedroom now.

I have to say I'm pretty happy with my television. I'm not even sure what it is. I mean, it's a Samsung, and it has HDMI ports...

Helps if you saw the TV I used to have for my games. Let's just say it had a built-in VCR.

With the talk about 4k. I had never seen a 4k tv in till a few months ago at best buy and man you can tell the difference! I have had my tv sences 2007 it is a 720 LCD but it up scals to 1080 so it is not full 1080p. When I bought it cost me 700 now you can get that same size tv for like 250-350 has it is a 37 inch tv some times even a little less. I just had to replace the lamp for the first time earlier this year. I think once the lamp goes out again I will just up grade to a bigger like 50-55 inch tv has I would like to have a bigger tv and some times the sound goes out and I have to turn the tv off and then back on to get the sound back and hopefully I will be moved out by then has I still live with my parents. Hopefully by then you can get good brand 4k 3d tv of 50-55 inch for a 1000 or less. What I think will happened with 4k and tvs and video games is I think when ps5 comes out that some games will be 4k kind of like ps3 and 1080p but most wont be and then when ps6 comes out I think most games will be 4k. Kind of like how ps3 was mostly 720p with some 1080p and now with ps4 a lot more games are 1080p instead of 720p. I think it will be similar with ps5 to ps6.

Didn't know human eyeballs could see resolution that high.

4K is 4,000 resolution. Trust me you can see the difference. My local best buy has a 4K tv beside a 1080p tv. Its something to bebold. There is a cityscape that is in the demo reel and you can see detail and objects in the tiny windows. Every miniscule nook and cranny pops out at you. The detail is bonkers, and the colors are so vibrant but they are not over cooked in a high contrast way. Its like looking through a window with perfect vision. Very detailed and natural.

Honestly, I wish Id never seen it, because now 1080p has lost all its luster for me. It looks kind of muddy and dull in comparison to 4k.

Alright, well, when the prices drop, I might check it out.

Though honestly, 1,500 dollars for a TV with better picture than already great picture is pretty low on my list.

Plus won't they need some kind of new medium that can actually show that off?

Blu-ray discs can do 4K. Some studios like Sony are already releasing 4K master bluray discs. But right now blu-ray discs and hardware are limited to 50gb discs. The 4K image is a much bigger file so to avoid compression they need 100gb discs or some improved compression codecs for optimal image. They are researching 100gb discs now and it will require new hardware that can read the disc at a higher speed and firmware to run those. Dvd went through a similar process when it shifted from single layer to dual layer. Right now bluray is in dual layer which is two 25gb layers stuck together.

So all our blu-ray players would become obsolete?

No. Some would just need a free firmware update. And remember that 100gb wont be standard any time soon. Also be aware that hardware updates like this dont drive up prices. When HDMI went from version 1 to version 2 and to version 3 you didnt see hardware prices noticeably change. Or for instance when Microsoft upgraded the chips and fans in the xbox 360 the price for the console didnt change nor did they make a big anouncement to the average consumer. Its the same with blu-ray players. The new hardware will roll out at reasonable prices and most consumers wont even know something has changed. So when these new players capable of 100gb discs arrive on the market you neednt worry about having to drop a small fortune to buy the new hardware.

Frankly, the difference between 4k and 1080p is only noticeable from 60" screens and up at viewing distance. Most won't see the difference with a screen size under that.

Heh, the first time I saw a 4k TV was in Best Buy as well. It was a MASSIVE screen. They were playing a demo of ASM1 on it and even though the footage was simply upscaled to 4k, it blew my mind. My initial thought was that Best Buy (for some odd reason) had a guy dressed up in a really good Spidey outfit hanging out behind a large picture frame. It took my brain a few seconds to realize it was a freaking TV. And again, that was with 1080 footage converted to 4K by the TV's software - I can't imagine how amazing true 4K is.

RE: 4K

I don't plan on upgrading to that for a long, long time as I'm still continually impressed with how good movies look on Blu-ray.

Yea im of the same mindset. That and I haven't seen a 4K tv at an even remotely affordable price.

Sony's GamesCon was kinda meh for me. It was mostly Indie games which I'm sick of.. Ports or games I already knew about.

I went to the head Samsung office on my trip in South Korea. They had some 4K televisions set up, and they were pretty mind-blowing. But I'm guessing it's something that you probably have to have a somewhat large television to see the true difference.

I just heard the new Tomb Raider is gonna be an Xbox exclusive and am majorly bummed. I was even gonna pre-order that **** for my PS4 and I never do that. :(
