People have been complaining about those things, too. So what is your point? We're not allowed to also have issues with the lack of MP3 and DLNA streaming?

Yes, clearly this is my point? Have I forbade you or anyone from not wanting this stuff at any point in this conversation? No, of course not. My point is that I don't see it as a big deal at all. You can call it a step backward or whatever, but when we're talking about such a basic feature that so many devices already do, then why does it's absence really matter all that much? It's a point that goes both ways.

New consoles are never guaranteed to have everything that the previous did. What else is absent from the PS4? The majority of PSN offerings, for one. BC compatibility. Both of those I find a lot more important than stuff I can have and use on 3 or 4 different devices I have. I just can't muster the power to care.

They said it was coming which is one of the reasons why people are restless. Its been 8 months now and still no update on it. BC was never promised so that's a non-issue

well, yes it comes down to personal preference. it may not be that big of a deal for you, but it may be a bigger deal to others.

and, as you said, it's a "basic feature." it's not something like BC. it's something that these ultra powerful consoles should easily be able to do.

and by including that feature, you satisfy a wider range of consumers. those who care for it will have it, while those who don't care for it don't have to bother using it.

but, it's better to include it than exclude it entirely.

And it's not a little sad that a "basic feature" isn't included on a device that more expensive than many other major devices? It's not like it's BC in which could add hundreds of dollars to a console (like Sony with PS3), it's something that should be simple and easy to add and update to the PS4.

It's may not be a big deal to you, but it's still a quite an oversight on Sony's part where both companies are trying to take over the living room with their consoles.

the primary feature of a smartphone should be the ability to make calls. it is a phone after all.

but why did smartphones become so popular and ubiquitous?

because they can do more than make calls. they can play music. play videos. surf the web. act as GPS. etc.

it's the convenience factor of having all those features packed into one device. so you don't have to carry around and hook up multiple devices. it's all in one package.

same with these consoles. the primary function should be to play games, of course.

but these consoles have become media hubs. Heck, even MS was touting the X1 as the all-in-one integrated media hub for your living room.

so, we expect these consoles to do more.

it's like if Apple announced the Iphone 6 and said "We're going to focus on making this the best phone calling device EVER! As such, we're not including all those other features." Don't you think consumers would be angry?

Meh, not really. Like I said, it goes both way. It's such a basic function that so many things do it now that I don't really particularly care. It didn't bother me all that much that the Wii lacked DVD playback when I already had like 5 devices that did that. It's just whatever at that point. If I can't get it there, I can get it here.

The games are there, but (this is not directed at you at all Tron Bonne but something slightly separate) I find it ignorant when some gamers complain about the media features on these systems when coming toward the end of the last gen (and with the current gen consoles so far) more people spent time watching video than playing games.

Back to MP3, these systems have done a great job at expanding their consoles, and for both to brag about convience and trying to expand beyond gaming, it's frustrating that simple feautres that won't be to expensive to add aren't added.

that's one of the main reasons why I started to favor the PS3 over my 360, even though I got my 360 first.

I found myself using my consoles more as media hubs than playing games. And I found it easier and more convenient to transfer, store, and playback my media files on my PS3 than on my 360.

as such, I found myself favoring the PS3 and using that console more.

The Wii was also $250 and lacking in power, and media options. there's a reason the Wii U hasn't been doing well.

Anyway, I'm glad that Sony will add these options and I think the UI will be updated constantly with new features. It's just going to take time. Using the Xbox 360 as an example as I had that, it's fascinating how much the Xbox 360 UI improved from 2005 to 2013.

Both of those seem irrelevant to the point I was making. I still wasn't bothered by the lack of DVD playback since I had so many devices that could already do it, so I didn't find it sad nor anything worth fussing about.

The good news is that Sony has promised to add MP3 and DLNA streaming to the PS4. It's a matter of when, than if.

one issue I have with the DLNA on the PS3 is that it could be laggy espeically if you wanted to FF/RW large files and that was bc of the RAM and B/G WiFI. The PS4 has more memory and has N WiFi so this should all be faster and smoother. Its the main feature Im looking forward to being add. It will beat having to transfer files onto a USB stick, then loading up on my MacBook, unconnecting my HDMI cable from the back of my PS3 and playing through the laptp

Any of you guys play Resogun? After the new update my friend and I have relapsed back into that addicting ass game. We've spent a couple nights in coop seeing how far up we can get up on leaderboards, I think we're #1 & #3 on 2 levels right now.

I've been able to beat all of my high scores solo as well and have ranked Top10 for nearly all of the main story levels on Veteran difficulty. My best so far is the final level where I'm #4 at the moment Saved it and the others through Sharefactory.

I am not sure how it can't be a rental service, since it's a streaming service. I suppose they could give you unlimited access to a game, but you by definition don't own anything. You aren't downloading anything.

I was thinking you purchase the streaming rights. So for X amount of dollars you can stream the game you want whenever, rather than just up to the set amount of time currently offered.
