The Official PS4 Thread - Part 6

I'd honestly prefer a UI update before media playback. Adding media support will just add to the cluttered mess that is the UI. It's really bad especially if you have a lot of digital content. They also need to add a way to search for stuff on your system. Like hit L3 and you get a search screen that pulls up everything under keywords you type in

well, maybe we'll get lucky and get both in 1.8. :cwink:

Wow, this this thread has really become insufferable.

by that do you mean you want to be able to change your background, or do you want the UI to be completely revamped?

why do you say that?
Early 2015 for DLNA.
MP3 and Video Players by the Holiday season
(MP3 maybe sooner)
fromhttp://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/2ak26u/whatever_happened_to_that_dlnamp3_support_that/cixqqb1

what's DLNA?

also which crash game is your avy
if we don't get MP3/Video Player until closer to the Holidays, and DLNA early next year, then what's going to be in August's "big" update??

guess we'll find out soon enough........

it better be the option to change the background...

I mean being able to organize content into folders. As it stands, everything is on the same horizontal plane which makes scrolling a bit of a hassle especially if you have alot of items. Its only sorted by last access date, so being able to alphabetize and add filters (separate digital games, retail, demos, etc...) would also be an added bonus. The UI is good in theory if you dont have much, but it easily becomes a nuisance once it starts to fill up. It makes getting to what you want, more of a hassle than it should be.

why do you say that?
My guess is he is sick of all the complaints about missing features, which does seem to never change, but that speaks to a bigger problem as months later and Sony still hasnt corrected most of them.

Playstation Now, open beta

i see. i haven't used my ps4 for enough different things for the UI to start annoying me with that yet. but has sony even said if they are planning to revamp the UI?

ummm, exactly... sony is giving us reason to complain, we dropped 400 blocks for this machine from them, and until our *basic* complaints go unanswered for, we have every ****ing right to complain!
Media streaming
isn't that what netflix is? wat exactly is DLNA?

Playstation Now, open beta
i won't be interested in this thing unless it comes at a cheap, monthly flat rate, just like netflix.

in regards to the UI, I've read that a sizeable team is working on a UI update, and I believe that's from the same "source" who's saying a big update is due in August ( and he's been right on other news before ).

but, regardless, the UI does need updating, especially if we will soon be able to store our own media file.

They need some kind of folder system. Not just for your personal files, but also for your apps.

There also needs to be a better way to navigate through all the icons. The "last app accessed" deal needs to go, as well. or at least let us "pin" apps to certain locations so they don't constantly move around.

Also, it's time to let us use the Touchpad to navigate through the UI, as well as a mouse in the browser. That's such a no brainer, I'm surprised it's been absent. As of now, the Touchpad doesn't really offer much utility, other than another button to press during games.

Basically, there needs to be a better organization/navigation scheme in place for the UI.

No. Netflix is a paid service used to stream content you dont own. DLNA provides media streaming from a media server (for example your PC) to access content you do own. With it, your console can access your PC files and stream video/music without physically connecting the 2 devices

IA on being able to "favorite" certain apps. I also hope that rumor about the UI change is true.

There's no mouse support? I guess I never tried but I just assumed there was since you can connect with a keyboard.

I'm not sure about other mouses, but I have a USB wireless keyboard/trackpad combo. The keyboard works with my PS4. but the built in trackpad doesn't work. ( It did work on my PS3, though, even for navigating through the PS3 UI ).

And, the controller's Touchpad doesn't move the cursor when you browse ( and that just seems like a logical function of the touchpad ).

Thanks. I'll try my mouse later

I had issues with the trackpad not working in Destiny in the main menu when it seemed logical to use it to move the cursor

hey, let me know if your mouse works.

and I don't believe I even tried to use the touchpad in Destiny. but yeah, with the cursor interface they're using, it would seem logical to be able to use the touchpad.

and that's another reason why they need to make the pad more functional.

and I don't see how there's anything wrong for us, as consumers who paid $400 for our consoles, to come here and voice our frustrations and express our opinions on what we want to see added to the PS4.

Sony Partners With South Korean University For “PlayStation Class”. July 28, 2014 . 3:00pm

Sony Computer Entertainment Korea and Sangmyung University in Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to open a new class.

Sony Computer Entertainment Korea and Sangmyung University in Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to open a new class. Dubbed the “PlayStation Class”, it’s a full-on academic module worth three credits to graduation, not just a one-off special.

The syllabus will focus on console development, with about 15 games utilized during the module course. Which 15 weren’t specified. Outside experts will also be invited to give talks about game development to students.

Considering the number of indie developers running around these days, this seems like a great idea from Sony: Get youths interested in the nitty gritty, without having to really commit to a full course in, say, animation, and let indie development take over the rest.

True, some might think there’s a lot of dreck in the water with the indie movement having gained so much momentum. But throw a dice long enough and it’ll come up sixes eventually.

There's nothing wrong with you voicing and opinion, but it gets very annoying when that's all you seem to do. Seems like not a day goes by when there's not a post in here or in the Xbone thread about damn media playback.

I don't feel like that's all I do. and I don't post here ( or in the X1 thread ) everyday.

the only reason I'm talking about it now is because of the chatter that media playback could be coming soon, possibly in August. also, there's supposed to be an update this week to adding 3D Blu-Ray. so, stuff seems to be happening.

and I'm not the only one here who's asking for it.

ah, ok.

well, it's been beaten to death cuz Sony has yet to add it.........:cwink: :oldrazz:

Got injustice for 8.50 or somethin like that last night on psn. :)
It was the Ultimate Edition. I couldn't pass up a deal like that

Honestly, I hope fans keep *****ing. That's what gets results.

Actually, it's given me a newfound appreciation for my PS3. Though I'd like to think the PS4 will have a lot more features in the years to come.

not really man... we (hardcore PS gamers) were horrified every time we lost a 3rd party exclusive last generation, and sony didn't do **** to secure any of the next consecutively lost exclusive games' releases... the only one we really got to save was mgs4, and that was probably only because kojima thought it'd be too hard to port to the 360 (sony says it was simply 'not possible' but I think that's ********, the cutscenes maybe but they could have just pulled a FF13 and made it on multiple discs)

the other that i can remember off the top of my head was the yakuza series, and they probably stayed exclusive only because they were smart enough to realize the series wouldn't sell jack**** on the 360. even know they did go multiplatinum recently remastering yakuza 1 and 2 for the wii u (which flopped, embarrassingly hard)

we're also now paying for playin.g online and it's no better than psn on ps3.

we also never got cross game chatting on ps3. i don't even know if it is possible on ps4.

I actually think competition spurs them to change more than pure customer feedback/complaining.

I mean........I don't think it's a mere coincidence that Sony unexpectedly announced 3D Blu-Ray support after MS said that would be part of the X1 August update. And not only did they Sony announce it, they're releasing the 1.75 update a mere week after 1.74 ( and thus before MS ).

same with the X1 price cut. I'm sure the X1 lagging behind the PS4 in sales was the primary reason why MS cut Kinect and dropped the price, despite them saying they "listened" to customers.
