Sony killing PlayStation Mobile on Android

2

We know this is going to hurt for a few folks out there, so we'll make it quick like ripping off a band-aid: PlayStation Mobile is over. It's dark times, for sure, but Sony will end PlayStation Mobile support after Android 4.4.2. Access and re-downloads on 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 will be up to publishers. Support groups will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at your local Sony store. Ask the manager for specific times.

Sony is shifting PlayStation Mobile support resources to PS Vita and Vita TV. Given that PlayStation Mobile was an antiquated model, we'd toss in the very real possibility of PlayStation Now support being in that mix as well.

i was under the impression that psNow was going to be made available for non-sony devices

this what game informer said

Our Take
It’s too bad to see services like this taken away, but given Sony’s push to court Indie developers, it seems unlikely that they’d get rid of their means of making Indie games readily available on mobile devices without some sort of new system to replace it in the works.

me:

Maybe they have something to replace it. We'll see

...you mean have ANOTHER streaming service next to PsNow instead of using it for everything?

that's lame.
I didn't mean in that sense more like another version of the same I don't know what made them pull it. But if they can bring back in another form that will allow those devices to use it, then fine. if it's something completely different/separate entirely I don't know what to say.

i'm not sure what exactly your quote meant but is sony not agreeing to put psnow on 3rd party applications or is it just not possible?

think about how awesome it could be to play tlou on your ipad through psnow...

I'm saying they still might do that. I don't know for sure until they actually say so or show other wise .

The short and non-confusing answer is that right now Sony wants to focus on getting Now running on PS hardware (remember, Now is actually still in Beta), and then they'll focus on non-PS stuff like mobile, tablets, smart TVs, etc. These kind of things take time, Now isn't going to be an instant thing across everything right out of the gate.

any word on the supposed "big update" coming at Gamescom?

I've honestly never heard anything about a big update at Gamescom?

Haha, just assume there is. Just like people asking about a big update at E3 and will for TGS, Spike Awards, etc... If and when Sony does something, they shouldnt even announce. They should just stealth drop it as part of a mandatory update which adds features people have been begging for

People are pointing out the fact that Killzone's image in the first one still has a RP (Rating Pending) logo on it, that these are just fake mockups done by some random person. I wouldn't get too excited about it.

All I really want is to be able to lock the non-games to the end of the list.

eh, I'll wait for an official reveal before getting my hopes up.

I've never really liked the UI for the PS3 and I'm not liking what I see of the PS4's either. I don't know what it is, can't put my finger on it, but I just don't like the design of either.

Does it still have that pretentious orchestra tuning sound when you turn it on?

I've never given much thought to the UI of any console. I just wanna get to the app or game I want and start it and so far I've yet to encounter a UI that impeded that process. What exactly is the current big issues with the PS4s UI?

Nothing really. People just want folders and whatnot. I personally don't care.

Its cluttered. Everything appears on the same horizontal plane and since they are big icons, it makes it more difficult to navigate than the more simplistic approach of the XMB. It was fine when the console was new and there was barely any content but it makes it more of a hassle trying to find the stuff you want to use than it needs to be. There need to be sorting options (alphabetical, demos vs digital games vs retail, for instance) and the ability to group items into folders for easy access. A search feature would also be welcomed. As it stands the only content that is grouped is the media apps which is ironic given how lacking the system is in media functionality
