The Official PS4 Thread - Part 6

I think the salt in the wound isn't just the fact that the first TR was multiplat, but wasn't Rise of the Tomb Raider announced as being for PS4 and PC at this E3 as well? That part, to me, is the weirdest. It means that whatever deal they made is a very recent one.

But I will agree the choice of TR is an odd me to me, too. I know the reboot did pretty well, but of all the franchises to moneyhat...that one? It almost makes me wonder if maybe it's a larger partnership. Can you imagine the reaction if Final Fantasy XV ends up a timed exclusive to the One :p

LOL. Sony fans would burn the internet down. I remember the reactions when the game came to 360. People were going on about the death of the PS3 and how they'd be tossing their consoles in the trash and how Sony had ruined their trust. Haha extremely entertaining reads

4K is 4,000 resolution. Trust me you can see the difference. My local best buy has a 4K tv beside a 1080p tv. Its something to bebold. There is a cityscape that is in the demo reel and you can see detail and objects in the tiny windows. Every miniscule nook and cranny pops out at you. The detail is bonkers, and the colors are so vibrant but they are not over cooked in a high contrast way. Its like looking through a window with perfect vision. Very detailed and natural.

Honestly, I wish Id never seen it, because now 1080p has lost all its luster for me. It looks kind of muddy and dull in comparison to 4k.

Damn. Now you got me wanting to check out one of these TVs. I know what I'll be looking for the next time I go to Best Buy.

Maybe now. But had that of happened, we'd see the same whining we are seeing now from the Sony fan base. People would be saying the EXACT same thing. 'But, but but, Tomb Raider has always done better with Sony platforms. Why are you making it just for the 360 blah blah blah'.

Like I said, people are complaining because its coming to a system they don't like or own. If the tables were flipped, ALL the people complaining over this would be saying, 'well Tomb Raider always has done better with the PS4, so yea this makes sense. Good job for Sony snagging a big time exclusive'.

Yup. I remember how many Sony fans loved it when PS3 finally got Mass Effect 1 and laughed at how Microsoft lost an exclusive. And then later pitched a fit when Microsoft finally got one of the Metal Gear Solid games.

Isnt that kind of obvious and expected though? Why would one be upset about content coming to something they own? It makes sense that one would be upset about something they don't have

I posted it in the two Tomb Raider threads, but since it was being discussed in here, figured I post this link here, too. MS confirmed that the exclusive deal with TR is timed. They did not detail the time, but the deal is on duration. So, PS4 owners will be able to play the game probably within 6 months to a year, probably when the Ultimate Edition hits. Also looks like it's a cross gen titles as well, since a 360 version is mentioned (I believe this was not known until now).

Hmm well that's cool. Glad I'll eventually be able to play it as well. I'm not planning on getting a xboxone, so this is good news for me.

and if that's the case, it's prob better just to wait until the GOTY/Ultimate/Definitive Edition gets released multi-plat.

BTW, I meant to ask, has anyone here had a defective PS4?

I've heard a lot of stories, so I'm a little nervous. I've already had bad luck with the Wii U this generation.

Hoping they'll have worked the kinks out by September.

haven't had any issues with mine (knocks on wood).

I can imagine things were pretty bad back then but this is essentially how I felt when Tekken 6 was announced multiplatform. I've been playing that game all the way back to the PsONE days and to hear that it was having a bloodline rebellion was just... the WORST NEWS EVER!!!!

it still is! I'll be pissed if Tekken 7 is announced for the xbone!

Pretty sure Tekken 7 was already announced, and the Bone was one of the platforms.

EDIT: Nevermind, no console platforms have been announced, yet, just arcade.

When it is announced for platforms the only one that WON'T get it will be the WiiU.

Unless Nintendo buys Namco and then the only platform will be Wii U! Which has no chance of happening.

Im guessing Tag Tournament 2 didnt sell? Was odd seeing them give the platform a bunch of Nintendo centric exclusive content

Nintendo and Namco has a pretty close relationship. Namco often helps with netcode of Nintendo's online games, if I'm not mistaken. I believe it was a late port, wanted something to stand out.

if tekken has been announced for the arcade that's an automatic announcement for playstation.

every single tekken game in the arcades have basically ran on playstations. tekken 1 and 2 were based on ps1, tekken 3 and tag were based on an upgraded ps1, 4 was based on the ps2, 5 was based on an upgraded ps2, and 6 & tag 2 were based on the ps3. tekken 6 in arcades even had its own xmb.

while its quite obvious namco doesn't care about its playstation roots anymore, i wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of tekken 7 going back to being exclusive to ps4, seeing as how xbox 360 sales were less than desirable for them.

and that is nintendo's own fault for not going with (at the time) next gen hardware when developing the wii u.

is that even a thing? namco was lookign to be bought and nintendo was thinking of doing so?

the fighting game genre in general is dying dude. sfxt also didn't live up to sales expectations and yes, ttt2 also kinda flopped. although, its reviews weren't so great as well. tekken in general started falling off after tag but still maintained its integrity. it wasn't until tekken 6 that it REALLY fell off.

back in the day, sony and namco's had a close relationship as well. for instance, look above about what I said about tekken running on playstation hardware.

the names tekken and playstation are almost synonymous. or at least they used to be before tekken 6.

ken kutaragi even formed a company with namco called cellius. they haven't really gotten anywhere though, one game produced and it flopped

Some else said it, but I think this is Microsoft's answer to Uncharted.

I had one with a faulty HDMI connector. The service from Sony was really top-notch, though. Easiest exchange I've ever made: I walked into the Sony store with my PS4, and immediately as I walked in, they saw me and directed me to the customer service desk. Before I even got to the desk, the guy behind it said, "PS4, Amazon?" I was like "yeah," and he went straight to the back and brought out a brand new one, took my old one, had me fill out my basic information (name/address/phone number) and sent me on my way with a brand new PS4. The whole visit took less than 5 minutes, it was pretty great.

IDA. The genre was dying back in the PS2 era. Capcom helped revive it last gen and its the strongest its been in the last decade. With titles like MK, Injustice, MvC, BlazBlue, soon Smash Bros, its still strong. Maybe not to the degree of the 90s, but its not dying out.

As for SFxTK, Capcom's own greed killed that. The amount of DLC for that game is absolutely absurd. Having 12 characters on the disc and forcing people to pay to unlock really turned many gamers off before it was even released. Capcom had a good game and ruined it with their own shady business practices. This was one instance where I was glad gamers talked with their wallets.

Man there are no Sony stores near me I had to send mine in! I'll probably get a refurbished one I bet. Mine was from Amazon and had a faulty HDMI connector among other things. I'm so glad we got a free one year warranty though!

This is exactly the reason I didn't buy it. They just went completely out of control with their DLC shenanigans.

Yeah Im surprised I still haven't bought it. I refused based on principle when it came out and told myself I would when it got under $20. By the time it got cheap, I had moved onto other stuff and just didn't care any more.

ETA: I just went on the PS Store to check out how many DLC packs there were and saw this:

https://store.sonyentertainmentnetw...ffer/cid=UP0102-PCSE00005_00-SXTVITAFREEBUNDL

All characters and swap costume pack free. Don't know if this is an error but I added it to my account nonetheless. Maybe I might try and check the game out finally...lol

FYI, the game has 198 pieces of DLC

Uh, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was a PS3/360 game. The "next gen" capabilities of the Wii U has absolutely nothing to do with it.

No, it was a joke.

This is true, but I'm not sure exactly what this has to do with what I was saying. Did the PS3 version of Tekken 6 get excluisve stuff or something?

what's IDA?

and i would definitely not say the genre was dying in the Ps2 era. TTT was a launch title for Ps2 and it was considered one of if not the best launch title for it. then there was soul calibur 2 which had so much hype behind it for its console-exclusive characters. then you have virtua fighter 4 evolution which was seen as a huge improvement for the vf series, and probably influences dark resurrection and bloodline rebellion from namco.

sales overall of any fighting game last generation is a fraction of the sales of shooters.
