The Official PS4 Thread - Part 6

It's not like Best Buy can tell if they're getting shoddy units or not. They just tell the companies to ship them x amount of units.

Now if there's a bad batch of units, they may all end up at Best Buy, but that's just an unfortunate reality with big shipments.

Who you buy it from (provided they're a reputable dealer) is irrelevant. A console from Best Buy is as likely to fail as a console you buy from Wal Mart (or not fail, if you're an optimist). The service they provide however, is obviously something you want to be aware of.

Having said that, my thinking is, if a console doesn't fail in a year, it probably won't fail in two. My PS3 is six years old now, and has never had a problem.

My Wii U is falling apart after three weeks.

and for the record, I bought my PS4 from Toys R Us last year.

it was during the period where it was very hard to find a PS4.

would have preferred to get it at BB. but they were playing coy about their stock and said you had to line up early Sunday morning to find out if they had any PS4s in stock. I said screw that and called other stores in town.

my TRS happened to get several in stock when I called, so they got my business. sorry BB......:o

Most people probably wouldn't even think to go there. I recall that story of a guy who preordered them there, and sold them for a killing.

what......Toys R Us?

I knew I didn't want to buy it from Target, cuz that was right around the whole credit card breach thing.......lol.

I called Walmart, Gamestop, and TRS and GS and TRS were the only ones who had some.

Some guy got several there, and sold them for like 800 each, back when you couldn't find them in stores. Made a killing.

I'm not sure if you have to buy the warranty right away. I think you do, though, or else there might be a small "grace period" window where you can go back and add it on. You'd have to ask and clarify that before buying. I don't think you can buy the console, then several months or a year later, go back and add the warranty.

In my case, I wouldn't say I've bought "shoddy" products from Best Buy. The situations where the extended warranty came into play involved laptops and an HD TV. And those usually experienced problems/broke down several years in. But then, those are also "high use" items that are on all the time.

As for consoles, like I said, haven't had an issue with those.

I got my 360 from BB back in 2008. Hearing all the reports of RROD got me nervous, so I opted for an extended warranty. So I've had it for 6 years and never had a problem.

Got my PS3 from BB a year later in 2009. Again, went with an extended warranty. 5 years in......haven't had a problem.

now, perhaps that's due in part to my usage of the consoles. Again, I'm now more a casual gamer, so my consoles don't get heavy usage.
honestly the more I think about it... kinda don't wanna spend another $90 for security. I guess I'll take my chances and be careful. do you have a ps4 and an xbone or just an xbone?

they must be pissed the **** off now seeing as how you can get a goddamn brand new ps4 on ebay for $360

yeah....if you don't think it's worth it to buy an extended warranty, definitely save the money.

again, it's a personal choice.

PS4 Share Play Has a Time Limit

The PS4's upcoming Share Play feature won't be an excuse not to buy games. Sony has revealed that the feature will only allow you to share your games with friends for an hour at a time. When the time expires, you'll need to invite your friends to join in and try out a game you’re playing, even if they don’t own a copy themselves. The idea is that people do this all the time when they’re in the same room, and now you’ll be able to do it online. The new feature will launch as part of the PS4′s 2.0 system update, which will go live before the end of the year.

okay man. and for the record i like this username better than raven x

Having said that, my thinking is, if a console doesn't fail in a year, it probably won't fail in two. My PS3 is six years old now, and has never had a problem.

That is such unbelievably foolish logic. My backwards compatible PS3 was 3.5 years old when it YLOD'd. When I was in sales, I had no problem whatsoever telling a customer "I told you what could happen after the coverage ended, which this additional warranty would cover."

really?

you're actually not the 1st poster who's said that.

maybe I should just stick with this username.........lol.

you've got thousands of posts on both accounts as well which suggests you are active on both...

3.5 years is a pretty good run for a modern console if you ask me.

I've had two 360's that didn't last half that.

Do they even offer four year warranties?

yeah......

I've been trying to build up the post count on my Raven X account - trying to get it on par with my X Knight one.

at some point, I'm sure I'll finally settle on one, but alas........the battle of identities continues...........:oldrazz:

nope.

Keep in mind, X Knight wasn't the original name of that 1st account, either. It was Super-Bats. At some point, I kind of got bored with that name. Probably at that time, I didn't know you could ask a mod to change your username. Or else I didn't want to "lose" my original name.

So, along the way, I created several other accounts with different usernames.

Then, I found out you could change your username. So, at some point, Super-Bats morphed into Raven X then finally into X Knight. And one of those alt accounts eventually became Raven X.

But, last year in particular, I went through a wishy washy spell, where I kept changing my 1st account from X Knight to Raven X, back and forth several times. And I was bugging the same mod over and over again.....lol.

At some point, I just said the heck with it. I just decided to keep the 2 account separates and I'd alternate posting between the 2 until I settle on one or the other........

like I said.........complicated........:halo:

yeah man that's some complicated **** lol

I made my username way back before dkr was released, I was so obsessed with bane back then and then the movie came out and it was unfortunately lackluster. i'm thinking of changing it but I feel that people are starting to recognize me around here
